Mik 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 What is the league average?
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 That I unfortunately can't give you(It would require me to do pretty much every pitcher out and I don't feel like doing 150 starters plus the guys who have spot started). If it eats at you though, feel free to attempt it yourself Here are the league leaders as of 5/30 though in number of pitches thrown(doesn't necessarily mean that they lead the league in pitches per game though as Schilling, 2nd to Zambrano, is throwing 112 per game). AL Leader = Tampa Bay's Victor Zambrano(1271/12 = 106 pitches per game) NL Leader = Montreal's Livan Hernandez(1201/11 = 109 pitches per game)
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Regardless of whose fault it is, Beckett's been placed on the DL. Good news for Phillies fans.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Bugger it, I'll do an experiment seeing which team's starters throw the most pitches per game combined. Should be fun at least.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Color me a bit surprised there. Although, once take the Cubs' numbers with a grain of salt, since they'd probably be in the top 5, if not leading it, if they had Prior going instead of Mitre. Sergio's only averaging in the 80s because he self-destructs by the fifth inning every time out.

HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Basically I included Cincy because everybody's raving about Graves(However misaligned it may be) and Riedling's been very solid.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 31, 2004 whose raving about Graves? Yeah he leads in Saves but thats because he's been given the most oppourtinities and has blown five of them...gives up way too many hits for a closer and tends to take 7-3 games and makes them 7-6 games way too much. Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Basically I included Cincy because everybody's raving about Graves(However misaligned it may be) and Riedling's been very solid. I thought you were referring to John Kruk's comments. He said Cincy has the best bullpen in the Central because Todd Jones is 3-1 and Danny Graves leads in saves. Wow, can't argue with that, can ya? Haha. He also said Wily Mo Pena shouldn't "trot" around the bases after hitting his 3rd HR (in 49 AB) because he is only hitting .245 or something. Ah.. Just making sure you aren't calling Kruk a "expert".
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Today's the weekly beatdown of Derek Lowe. I expect him to go 3 1/3 innings and then throw a hissy fit on his way to the clubhouse after being yanked.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Well, he's already given up a solo shot to Surhoff
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Boston fans boo the hell out of Lowe as he bleeds to death on the mound. What's the logic behind keeping him in there any longer? It's obvious that his open blister is affecting his pitching.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 31, 2004 (edited) I still hope they trade Lowe and bring in either Russ Ortiz or Freddy Garcia. Both pitchers will be available later with the way their teams are in the standings. Edit: I also tend to just ignore games pitched by Derek Lowe. He's a fluke starter who thinks he's worth more than $9mill a season. I'm watching Atlanta and Montreal...great fucking game thus far and Nick Green just hit his first major league homer to put the Braves up 5-2. Bored 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Scott Boras has to be pissed. Oh and I can't see any team bailing out the Red Sox by trading for Lowe at the deadline. Maybe if they trade for another starter they can stick him in the bullpen.

Oh, fuck. That means the Yanks are in first place (tied) after today. Which means they won't bother to come to the Stadium tomorrow.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Well the thing is, Lowe will still probably be in the A group of FA Starters. Meaning he'll net the Red Sox or some other team a 1st round pick. Seattle is getting really old so I could see them being willing to trade Garcia for Lowe + a prospect like Justin Sherrod. Seattle would get a prospect, save about $3mill in salary, and can either go and keep Lowe then offer him Arby and grab the picks or go around and trade him for more prospects. Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Some good news for Bruiser and his fellow Cubbies fans. Ryan Dempster threw 3 scoreless innings the other day for a Class A affiliate. Looks like he'll be back by mid June.

Why the HELL would a team trade for Lowe? He's expensive, and an impending free agent. Offer him arbitration, and he'll likely accept it.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Mark Prior is apparently going to start Friday at Wrigley against the Pirates. I sure he hope he's fully healthy. The worst thing they could do is bring him back too soon. At least maybe he'll be able to get Mackowiak out.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Why the HELL would a team trade for Lowe? He's expensive, and an impending free agent. Offer him arbitration, and he'll likely accept it. He makes $4.5mill this season, deffinately not expensive to today's standards. He won't accept arby. Somebody will be willing to over-pay to take him. He's a native of Michigan and his favorite team to watch is the Tigers. I'm sure he'd be willing to go pitch there. You know somebody will offer him something ludacris.
