ISportsFan 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 It should be like No Way Out 2001, where the huge rivalry match gets the middle of the card main event (Austin/HHH 2/3 falls, HHH/HBK Cell). Then, the title match gets the main event slot (like it should). Jason
Guest Rrrsh Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Kane is #1 Contender by a Battle Royal. Last time that happened, Booker got his ass squashed by HHH in the midcard, and for good reason. No build, no reaosn for the fans to buy the PPV for the match. Title match loses. That and this is a HUGE blowoff, they have been building for this for 6 months, not counting all that stuff in 2002. Enigma 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 ideally, it would be the World title match. realisticly, it'll be HHH/HBK, if for no other reason then neither Benoit or Kane is fucking the right bitch. I love how people still find reasons to bash HHH, despite the fact that Benoit is champ and HHH has been behaving himself lately and working good.

But I agree with you on the Battle Royal thing. It's not like, kayfabe wise, Kane really earned anything. He's only #1 contender because of HBK.

Since December 2003, he has not been in bad matches...except for the bait and switch-ish Shelton Benjamin match where HBK was suspended.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted May 30, 2004 HHH/HBK - RAW's signature feud that's been going on two years means more than Kane getting fed to Benoit.

If you even want to bother counting 2002 and this as two separate feuds. Royal Rumble to Mania 03 was the only period between July 02 and now that they weren't really at eachother's throats. This has been built up for almost the entire brand split. It's gotta go last.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 The real question is...Will Shawn try to outbleed Eddy? I predict he will try...and fail.

Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 If this was last year, it should be Kane/Benoit. But Kane is nowhere near enough of a credible threat these days for it to be the main. It has to be HIAC. Had it been Benoit/Jericho, I would have gone the other way. Jericho isn't any more of a threat than Kane, but they could promote it as simply being a MOTYC. Sort of like the ladder match at Summerslam 95 where Razor didn't have a chance in hell, but people were interested in it because of the classic match vibe coming from it before it was even performed. Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 and that match wasn't the main event either... No, but it should have been. How about Shawn/Bret from Survivor Series 1992 then? Flair & Razor/Savage & Perfect was the more hyped match going in. Anyway, my point is that you put on the main event that will most likely get them to watch the next show, be it a dream matchup (Warrior/Hogan), a MOTYC (Bulldog/Bret) or a suspenseful cliffhanger (Hogan goes NWO). Try not to be locked into only having the World Title match last.
Guest JacK Report post Posted May 31, 2004 ... it's so nice HHH and HBK put Benoit over. They've figured out how to lose and actually elevate themselves over the guy their losing too . . . without getting return victories. It's an impressive feat really. I dunno . . .I think the HIAC should be last . . . I mean no matter how far after that, will anyone really care about the title match? Ooooh Kane, scary, he's been stalking Lita for months, beating up jobbers and losing to some by DQ and countout and what not before that. Oh, and he's on somewhat of a PPV losing streak. Not to mention the, y'know, decided lack of interaction between him and Benoit. What a contender! No matter where it is, it won't get much reaction. So early as possible I guess. While I agree the title should be built up as the most important thing, clearly it hasn't and making the title match the main event would be rather hollow. Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 1) Convience. It's too much of a hassle to set up the thing, and then take it down so another match can take place. I'd agree if this was a normal cage that needed to be set up, but HIAC is simply lowered. It's quick and easy. If we all recall King of the Ring 1998 (where the title match was the main event...), the Cell was lowered and raised during the main event with no trouble.
