The Mandarin Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 According to Box Office Mojo, Shrek 2 beat out The Day After Tomorrow by three million dollars this weekend. The really impressive part is that Day After Tomorrow made SEVENTY MILLION DOLLARS. Adding it to Shrek 2's 73.1 million makes this the most successful box office weekend ever (or at least 1982). That's crazy. I didn't even bother seeing either of them.
Guest Choken One Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 who would waste 8 dollars to see bad acting?
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 I would, because I am... tomorrow. And for the record, that $8 that people "waste" is for special effects.
Guest Choken One Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 put a DVD in the microwave if you special effects then.

Another interesting number is that The Day After Tomorrow set the record for the biggest opening by a movie that didn't open in #1, and basically doubled the previous record in that category.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 put a DVD in the microwave if you special effects then. That will end up costing you a lot more than 8 bucks.
LaParkaYourCar Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Then put one of those AOL CD's you get in the mail in your microwave.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 put a DVD in the microwave if you special effects then. Smart-Ass.
Guest Choken One Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Then put one of those AOL CD's you get in the mail in your microwave. not unless you got one of those 3.99 dvds at the bargain bin at Wal-Mart...where Kung Fu and Mariah Carey movies go to die.

Guest Salacious Crumb Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 I think Day After Tomorrow probably benefitted heavily from people showing up at the theatre only to find that Shrek 2 was sold out.
Guest El Satanico Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Sure Shrek 2 being sold out probably sent alot of people over to The Day After Tomorrow, but it wouldn't amount for that much of the total.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 I think Day After Tomorrow probably benefitted heavily from people showing up at the theatre only to find that Shrek 2 was sold out. That doesn't really make sense. Shrek 2 made what, 120 million last weekend? If it was selling out all over the place this week, how would there have been space for almost twice as many viewers last week?
MarvinisaLunatic Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 TDAT is just lucky that theatres don't give refunds.
Downhome Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Who is the goober here that predicted that TDAT wouldn't make anything but like, 10Mil or whatever they said? You know who you are, show yourself!
LivingLegendGaryColeman Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 These stats probably aren't correct anyway... there is no mention of "Soul Plane"... wait a second...

Vyce Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 The fact that "The Day After Tomorrow" made 70 million makes me lose faith in humanity a little. Luckily, the fact that Shrek 2 beat it restores that faith.
Kahran Ramsus Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Harry Potter crushes them both next weekend.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Another one of those Potter movies is coming out? Yippie...

Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 I don't think Day After Tomorrow will make that much money $6 million max. Who is in it Jake Galafjfioealgjalhkus and Dennis Quad? Razateca, show yourself... Anyway. Next Week: 1. Harry Potter 3 2. Shrek 2 3. The Day After Tomorrow 4. Troy 5. Raising Helen
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 I wonder if next week could be another record breaker. Could top 3 go something like: 1. Harry Potter 3 90 million 2. Shrek 2 45 million 3. Day After Tomorrow 35 million or are those projections too high? That would be 170 million for the top 3 movies alone.
razazteca Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 I'm in hiding with heat stroke...... Harry Potter $80 million Day After Tomorrow $15 million Next week.
Eclipse Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 I saw Day After Tomorrow. It was everything I expected. And if the movie sucked, I wouldn't have felt bad. Thank god for 5 dollar theaters around here...
