This Week in Baseball

Recommended Posts

If I had been watching this whole thing, I probably would've stabbed someone in the face. Actually, I know I would've, because I'm feeling the urge and I've only been watching it on and off.

Both teams are going to need complete games from their starters for the rest of the damn series just to rest their pen.

Brewers FINALLY break the scoreless game in the 17th with a two-out double, scoring Counsel. This'll be a heartbreaking game for the Angels, since they had their scoring chances, but they had two outs in the 17th when Counsel got a walk on a full count. That was a close play at the plate, though and it might have been in time had Guerrero gotten rid of the ball right away. He'll have a chance to redeem himself, though, as he's due up first in the bottom of the inning.

Good news for you Bruiser as not only did the Reds lose but Larkin also got hurt. It could possibly be a sports hernia or just a minor strain, he is getting checked out today. If he is down the Reds will have a hell of a time staying .500 much less making a run at it.

Just when you thought the Reds and Junior were rolling along nicely, they get slammed by the A's.....and Junior gets on the cursed cover of Sports Illustrated.

Thanks a lot SI, and so long Junior back-in form Griffey.

I meant the "curse" that normally accompanies a sports figure or team when a photo of them gets on the Si cover. They get on the cover, they start to play like crap.

Mostly a joke, I'm sure Junior will be OK. Maybe he needs to go on that clown Jim Rome's show and get some of that vaunted "karma."

Some days are just like that. Neither guy had their good stuff today and in Prior's case, it was easily his worst game in his short career. Even the best have games like that once in a while, so it's all good. And when Edmonds and Rolen are as hot as they've been, well, you need to expect stuff to happen like what we saw today. There's still a shot for a split tomorrow.

Well, that's one positive for me today. *has Abreu on his fantasy team*

Unfortunately, I also had Edmonds benched today because Prior was starting and Jason Schmidt is going to get a no decision after pitching seven innings of shutout ball, because the Giants' pen sucks. Guess I can't blame Alou, though, since Schmidt was up to the 114 pitch mark when he got the hook.

You can't stop Damian Miller, you can only hope to contain him. ;)

Who kidnapped the A's offense and replaced them with good hitters before this series? Okay helps the Reds pitching is just brutal.

Griffey makes an ass out of himself by doing the homerun walk thinking he had just hit 499. That backspin's a bitch, though and he winds up with a single because of his cockiness.

And Raul Mondesi is fighting right in with his new Angels teammates: he's injured. Tore his quad, so it looks like the acquisition definitely wasn't a smart move by the Angels.

Regardless of Mondesi's attitude, it wasn't even a smart move a week ago.

So watching Baseball Tonight and it's been ESPN's policy this year to have their anchors complain about not pitching to Bonds and subjecting the viewer to pointless highlights of Bonds walking. So tonight Bonds goes 1 for 5 and doesn't draw a walk so I'm assuming the Devil Rays pitched to him. What do they do on Baseball Tonight? No highlights of Bonds, don't even mention his name. Just a hunch they'll go back to their bitching if Bonds draws a single walk tommorrow night.

Oh and the A's are getting really close to blowing a 11-0 lead...now 11-7.

Edit: Make it 11-8.

I'm just finding it funny that Mondesi was saying that he wasn't going to play for the rest of 2004 due to personal reasons, only to sign with a different team weeks later, will now likely sit out the rest of 2004 because of an injury. Irony's a bitch. I'm just wondering how he tore it running to first, since I saw it and he wasn't even running quickly.

I guess I shouldn't have worried with the Reds pitching. This game has just been bizarre. A's now have 40 runs in this series...so far.

Ahhh, thank God we're playing Cleveland over the weekend.

Course knowing our luck Cleveland will shut us out.

The 40 runs is a club record for the A's in a three game series.

Glad we could do our small part in making A's history

I wouldn't count out Cleveland. They were the team that shut down these A's a couple of weekends ago.

So the A's will move into sole possession of first place over the Angels. Wait it's only June...damnit it's supposed to be August when they get in first! Crap they are going completely against the script. Oh well maybe they'll skip the lose in Game 5 part.

Damnitt it's my fantasy and my dream and I will not wake up from it!

Could be worse, at least I was alive when my team one a World Series (against these guys no less).
