ESPN NFL 2K5 Thread

Speaking of snow, I had finally played a game in full out snow and it was absolutely nuts during the second half. I couldn't see the field, I couldn't judge my kickoffs, and worse, my o-line just would let my QB be sacked a lot.

However, my running game had a field day, getting 327 yards rushing. That was nice.

I finally got the game!!! I shall not stop playing. Unless it somehow sucks.

Take it from a guy who's played a full season.

It sucks. Pretty awfully.

:P

BTW, what the hell is up with you people and the online leagues? Are we doing them or no?!

To give a different opinion, this is the first time I have ever bought an ESPN football game and I'll never go back to Madden.

Madden has nothing on this game.

I was pretty drunk for most of the game, and I still killed Cleveland 65-7.

Some big differences from last year. People go the fuck down when they get hit, it's jarring when you're used to the broken-tackles galore of last season. Also, my old stiff-arm tricks don't work nearly as well this year, since defensive players do not magically bounce off each other and away from me. Still, I was laughing at the game when my first play was "Culpepper runs out of pocket, diagonal over the field to Moss, he breaks two tackles and TD". Felt like old times. I thought they were going to kill the accuracy on those silly out of pocket passes.

I did completely miss a freaking screen pass, which annoyed me. How do you miss a screen? Useless Bennett.

Now, time to go to tutorial and see what new stuff I can do.

I'll just tell you it definitely depends on your sliders/diffulculty. :P

I was playing on rookie at first...then decided to move it...and it's just like :o. Fuck that! I swear I got ready to throw the controller about 10 times..they pull off crazy stuff at times...catching more stuff then I thought they would.

Started a Franchise as the Ravens on the Pro Level (since my 49ers are awful)

Took me 2 games to really get things down. I also traded Kyle Boeller and a no. 1 pick for Drew Bledsoe, and now I'm rolling. 4-0 and I've yet to give up more than 7 pts. a game. The defense is ferocious (Suggs and Ray lewis are *great*) My passing game still needs some work, but with Jamal Lewis gaining great yardage, I can work the kinks out easily.

Anybody know why they changed the packaging from the way they had it on 2k1-2k3 to the way it is now? I almost forgot this game is part of the series.

..it is, right?

Man, I'm confused. Still gonna buy this, though.

hmmm...odd, has anyone else had an injury that only lasted like..a few minutes?

In my Franchise with the Patriots, Sapp got injured (traded for him), what, I don't really know, it was just the cutscene where he was holding his arm and I was just like :o...and now..just a few plays later...he's back in teh game.

Had that happen to Steve McNair after he was sacked on a third and long. Just showed him hobbling off in pain holding his leg and the announcers saying that it didn't look good. I actually had another cutscene where he was riding the bike (during my pcik of a defensive play), but after I received the ball back on an interception, there was McNair back in the game throwing a 56 yard pass.

Never found out what was wrong with him.

Either he had a strain or something minor.

They are pretty flexible with their trades. I revitalized the Raiders offense nicely by dumping Collins, Gannon, Robbins, and Wheatley for Ricky Williams and Ben Roethlisberger.

I revitalized my current franchise run of the Steelers by trading away Roe for Warner.

...yes, I traded away a quality rookie QB for an aging QB that's unproven.

I'm 15-1, just beat the Colts, and am in my Conference Championship. So having Warner helped.

Get back to me when Warner (should) get injured or retires in the next year. That was a crazy trade.

Ok hmmm..someone help me out here. Currently in preseason..but then when I try to start the regular season, it says 'You must be under the salary cap' I figured that meant as a whole...I was paying my guys to much. But guess not? I tried going to contracts..and I don't konw..lowering it, but it says 'cannot re-sign, the cap limit would be exceeded'.

So I'm wondering, what exactly am I trying to do? lol

You gotta cut some scrubs to get under the cap.

My D is sick. I embarassed the Broncos on a Monday night in Mile High 34-7. The rookie CB I drafted to replace Law is well on his way to becoming Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Speaking of the cap situation, I might sound stupid for this, but I just don't get it.

Lets say I trade Curtis Martin about 4 mill a year, 26 overall and a couple of picks for Stephen Jackson who makes much less than Curtis Martin. Instead of gaining more cap room, I lose cap room. Any reason why? Or am I overlooking something?

Signing bonuses likely. You are required to pay off all of Martin's money to him, on top of taking on Jackson's contract. I don't have the game (yet) but the one flaw with that system is that in reality, trades and cuts are supposed to count against next year's cap, where as in 2k5 they count against the current year.

Interesting, thanks.

So let me get this straight. Do I pay the whole Martin contract or just his bonus, PLUS the Jackson contract? Thanks again.

You grabbed a contract in Jackson and that is what you are paying for. And you still have to give Martin his bonus money for the year right then and there.

Plus lots of the players have a penalty clause.

Not to mention, the contract doesn't list the bonus that player will be getting paid if you trade for him.

You pick up the player, you pick up his full contract along with his bonus.

:( Have a laugh at my expense.

Guess which idiot GM forgot to restructure Warner's contract before the end of the year and also traded away Tommy Maddox for a draft pick earlier in the year.

If you guessed me, then by GOD you are right.

:( Warner wants to pay him 38.71 million over 7 season. Burress wants the same almost. I don't think either guy is worth that much. Yet if I don't sign them, I'll have no starting QB now, unless I want to start my 58 rating backup, I lose one of my two starting WRs, and the guy I always took to the house for my passing yards.

If I didn't have my created running back, Edward James (who rushed for 2000+ yards, and was went from 78 to 88 after this season because of my weakass schedule), I'd be crying about how much shitter my team has become. Then again, James probably won't do shit for all next season if I don't get a QB and WR, I'll just be fucked over after this season.

:( I wanted to use this on someone else, but I think this picture is very appropriate on me.

*hangs head in shame*

My 15-1-0 season will probably be three times the amount of wins I'm going to get next season(s)... It's just not fair. :(

Nice to finish my season, with Marcus Tubbs (Seahawks) recorded 15.5 sacks in a season, and Marcus Trufant had 9 INT's. I finished with a 11-5 record and now in the Conference Finals against a surprising Redskins team.

Not having Shaun Alexander for most of the season, I was pretty damn lucky.

Finally got a ps2 copy on wednesday, didnt paly it till like 10 pm pst since my yanks were on tv and I got to see a-rod walk off

impression so far (played about 4 hours total) wow these are awesome graphics (especially for ps2) I dont have a hdd but I have no prob with that. didn't play a season yet since my memory card is low on space (damn I shoulda got one at the store-but cmon 24 bucks, i know theres a cheap knock off card just as fine)

Created a vip for me with the giants, unlocked some crib point and got some giants posters and sofas and bar lights. challenged by funkmaster flex 2 times already and he beat me twice (the second time earlier today before smackdown came on, I as the panthers blew a 14-0 lead in the 2nd halkf and late in the 4th they hit a field goal for a 17-14 lead, I turned over on downs on next possesion, but since I had a to left used it after a 2nd down, then on 4 down I purposely went offsides to stop the clock and got it punted to me with 50 secs left, but my drive came up short)

the gameplay is pretty solid, but Ive only played on rookie mode since I am new to this series (only played madden 03 for ps2 and before that nfl qbc 98 for n64)

I bought it cuz it was 20 bucks, if not I might not have bought a fb game since I am more of a baseball fan (I own asb 05 for ps2-sorry I dont have an xbox lol)

the running game is pretty simple but I have had a hard time with passing as the defense seems to constantly get to my qb too soon

anyway the presentation owns all, even with the still shots instead of video (whats up with that anyway, is the ps2 disc too small to fit that? ) the pregame fly over with fans tailgating going to seats, vendors during the game, players on the phone, the coaches, crazy fans, its all very real. its almost close to watching the nfl on espn. the announcers are not too annoying even though they repeat too much and sometimes say dumb things (like questioning me going for it on 4th down, while trailing by 3 with 25 secs left in the game) the lipsynch is bad and the post-game interview is funny with the players with someone elses voice (i was rotfl when michael strahan was interviewed after a game)

the top 25 moments are pretty cool too, I beat a couple already like bills-giants superbowl, and rams-titans sb

anyways I cant have a full opinion till i get a mem card and play a season

oh and the other problem is that we have seen far too many roster changes in the last 2 weeks in real life and thus the game is crazy (though I was thrilled to see an old high school classmate of mine, Keary Colbert of USC, on the roster of the panthers)

oh and btw I live near where the cowboys are training in oxnard,ca went there yesterday (before I bought the game) and I wore my giants hat (ha) I know the eagles are supposed to be our rivals, but I hate the cowboys more carter had just been relased so you had tons of reporters around. saw testaverde practice throws and parcells was yelling at them. and watched some kickoff drills. didnt stay long cuz hey, I am a Giants fans after all (and besides smy dad only went cuz of Parcells-I kinda wanted to ask him why he was a traitor and hooked up with the 'boys)

I think you must pay the penalty for dumping the contract and aassume the new one as well.
