The Amazing Race 5 Returns

Recommended Posts

FAST FORWARD!

Hmm.. They've already got a 7 hour lead..and yet they go for it..

DUMB!

Not when there's only two. If you've got the chance, use it.

(edit) although, having said that, this is probably a non-elimination leg...

Usually, the non-elim legs don't happen until there are 6 teams left.

Good for them...they did what Frank and Margarita did in Season 1. Got out to a big lead and held it (almost) all the way to the end.

It's easy to be nice when you're ahead of someone...

Uh..

No taxis for them in the next leg.

Reminds me of the NBC show Lost (which started around the same time as the first season of AR) in which they didn't have any money and they had to beg and offer to sing on the ship that left from Russia.

If you've seen Beg, Borrow and Deal you know it can be done...

Looks like there's some begging next week...

I didn't see that coming at all. Should be interesting with the new twist, especially given there are now FOUR non-elimination legs.

And still (thankfully) no YIELD...

B,B&D wasn't set in Egypt though.

Might be harder for Americans in other countries to successfully beg for money or stuff.

Should be interesting.

You're right about that.

OK, how about Blake and Paige begging for money in TAR2 after losing their money in South America?

Damn, the Twins just screwed up.

I think they should cheer themselves up with some naked hugging...

You should be executive producer.

Chip and Kim are cool. I like them better than the rest of the teams. Let's see if Brandon and Nicole actually bother to help em if it comes back to that.

Ok, I'm going against popular opinion here, but I'm starting to like Charla/Mirna. The non-midget can be really annoying, but they play a smart game. The fact that the team with a midget is still around and constantly at the top is pretty amazing. And I was very amused at how they Solid Snake'd onto a flight while the other teams were sleeping.

I'm not too impressed by four non-elim legs, but eh, we'll see how it turns out. At least the Begging Bowling Moms should be good for a laugh.

I didn't mind Chip and Kim in this ep, before I found them a bit annoying but it was nice of them to help out The Twinz. But my pick for the champs and THE TEAM is Colin and Christie. Colin has unfuckwithable drive and Christie is better then most of the guys on the show. Provided they don't let Colin's temper fuck things up they should be good to go for the Final Four at least.

I worry about Charla and Mirna because of one simple thing: no matter how much I hate them and they fuck up, they still manage to bounce back and pull ahead. I can't deny it and I really don't feel like seeing them win so go Colin and Christie.

Chip and Kim are just good people. Plus after reading the Pit Stop clue ("The last team to arrive MAY be eliminated") they probably realized that hindering them wouldn't help any.

Colin and Christie are flat out racing well. Taking the FF was smart, even if it looks like they'll get bottlenecked next week. If they don't reach the finish line I'll be very surprised.

Like I've said before, I like Charla (when she's not saying she wants to show that she can do things herself), but Mirna is bloody annoying, and quite the liability at times. With that being said, their main problem is that they're slow starters, and while that hasn't hurt them so far, they're going to have to step it up once they're down to 5 teams.

The Amazing Race is the only "reality show" that I like to watch. Everyone knows my hate for reality shows, especially the stuff that Fox throws out on a monthly basis.

That being said, CBS is about to piss me off big time. They're getting ready to do the filming for the 6th season so that they can use it for the upcoming season, and be damned if they aren't trying to ruin it. How you say? Well, I should have realized something was up this season when they used a past contestant from Big Brother on the show, but I didn't have a problem with it because she was in a legit relationship (I guess) and since the whole premise is teams that have some sort of relationship racing around the world, it wasn't that bad. But I just read that CBS was actively trying to get Richard Hatch and Rudy (From Survivor, one show I can't stand) to participate in TAR 6. What relationship do they have (and yes, I know you could throw the gay Richard Hatch jokes out all week) aside from them spending a month (if they even did, I don't know) on an island togethe in the middle of nowhere? I don't see how they could be considered a team for TAR, other than that of a Gimmick team to draw ratings.

If CBS goes through with this, they will turn the Amazing Race, which has won an Emmy for best Reality Program, and probably could win another one, into a joke along the lines of the stuff that Fox peddles weekly.

To be honest, that doesn't bother me. The beauty of the show is the format, not the contestants. I managed to sit through last season, which had only one team that I actively liked, without a problem, because the show is just so awesome to watch on its own.

I just don't care one way or another.

Neither do I, really. You really don't see as much shenanigans on this show simply because you have no time to do so. If they want to throw a gimmick team on to the show, then that's fine. Unless they get Rupert, in which case you know they're going for ratings. And also, as much as I like Rudy, he's not exactly a legit threat to win the Race. Teri and Ian are really the exceptions to the rule that the old people get knocked out early.

Personally, I'd prefer a gimmick Race which used an "All-Star" format. Bring back the Cha-chas, KennyG, The Clowns, etc.

To be fair, Richard and Rudy have maintained a friendship since S1. So, it wouldn't be much different than, say, the soccer moms from this season. What would be gimmicky, though, is if they had it be Richard and Sue...just so we could watch them bitchslap each other every week.

I taped tonights episode so I could watch it after the Os game. I figured that the Bros. would get eliminated last week, so I was pretty sure they'd get booted this week despite the Bowling Moms losing their money. But I didn't think they would just up and quit like that. Although I guess if you know you're eliminated and you hurt real bad, theres not much incentive to keep going, and they got the honor of being the first team to not finish. There are no all male teams left either, which has to be a first for 6 shows in.

I've been behind (and will continue to be behind) Colin and Christie since Day One because of their disgusting focus and drive. The cracks are appearing in the relationship, though and one wrong moment could fuck them up bad.

Colin and Christie are definitely the frontrunners, although I won't complain if Chip and Kim won, simply because Chip has a way-too-infectious upbeat attitude about stuff...
