TNABaddboi 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2004 I just finished watching the tape and it left something to be desired. IMO, it was just an average show this week, and lacked the big event feel of last week. Some quick thoughts... I liked the Kash/Red match. Even though it was short, it didn't really seem like a squash because Dallas interfered. I gotta admit, I'm digging the 2 Dudes with Attitude vibe of Kash and Dallas, but that's probably because I loved it the first time. The AJ/Kazarian match was once again the match of the show. Even though it was tons shorter, still a good match and they got some good spots in and even worked in some more psychology with Kazarian still blocking all the Styles Clash attempts again. I'm upset they didn't put over Kazarian's Coolest Guy in the World gimmick for new viewers in his first Impact match. Blown opportunity there. 3LK/Young and the Naturals was a fun match, the kind of match that the crowd liked, and didn't seem like a waste of time because this was TV and not PPV. Glad the Truth's popularity carried over to Orlando, and glad they got Konnan and James on the show for casual viewers, but man did the pop for them matching the Truth/Jarrett match not exist or what. Maybe Dusty shouldn't have been the one to make it. Also, Jarrett should have sold it like he was upset. The dastardly heel shouldn't be excited about facing the face who pinned him just recently. Monty/Siaki was just a squash, but I forgive them because they wanted to get them both on the show. I don't think they did a good enough job getting over Monty's paranoid predator gimmick. The ME was just bleh. I like Team Canada alot, but I'm not a fan of Team Mexico (esp without Garza) and I wish the X Cup thing would just die already. Team US winning the World Cup should have been the blow off damnit. Hopefully this flag match does that. Move Team Canada into tag title contention, push Garza and don't mention the World Cup again until next May (hopefully it will become an annual event). I think this being the ME really hurt this show. Of this lineup, AJ/Kazarian clearly should have gone on last. It just seemed like a let down at the end after the earlier stuff. I liked that they ran vignettes trying to establish Jarrett, Raven and AMW's characters and wish Raven would appear on the damn show already. I like that they announced Truth/Jarrett for the anniversary show, and think it will be a fine main event for the big show, but I am no longer excited about the feud. They haven't given me much to get worked up about. The only thing I'm excited about long-term is Styles/Kash. I like that they are taking it slow and like that they booked Styles/Dallas. I think that match may suprise people. Dallas can hit his spots and be carried and Styles works the big man/little man match better than anyone since HBK. This show just seemed pedestrain to me. It was decent TV, but they didn't do anything this week to make me want to buy the PPV on Wednesday, and if Impact doesn't accomplish that goal, why is it on the air. Hopefully they pick it up next week. They are going to need something to make people view the anniversary show as important. I think naming it would help and since they aren't any closer to running the sunday PPV, I would like them to break out the BFG name. It seems approriate and can be established as their big event if they make it the anniversary show. Either way, they're going to need to step up the Truth/Jarrett feud to make me care before the 23rd. I'm a big mark for Truth and like 3LK, but they haven't given me any reason to want to see Truth fight Jarrett other than the fact that I know it will most likely be a good match because I saw their first encounter. The new audience they are looking for doesn't have that luxury. END RANT
Just John 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2004 For what it's worth, I liked Impact more than SD this week. The X division guys brought the cool offense as they did last week. Not as good as last week's show, but still entertaining. Now I've only watched TNA for 2 weeks, so correct me if I'm wrong. It seems like having AJ Styles face Dallas is a waste of Styles' talent. AJ Styles vs. Kid Kash... now that's a match I want to see.

I'm sure they will probably save that match for the anniversary show....or the show after that so that it can main event.
Celtic Jobber 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2004 Atleast Raven got a video package this week. I hope he wrestles or cuts a promo on next week's episode.
Guest CubbyBear Report post Posted June 11, 2004 For the people complaining about match times...get over it. They've only got an hour with commercials so they can't be doing 15 minute matches like the PPV. They need to showcase a lot of talent and they just can't do it by having really long matches on an hour show.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 The Orioles game got rained out, so with nothing to replay they might show Impact at 4 am on Comcast Sportsnet Mid Atlantic, and then again they might just show some exciting PAID PROGRAMMING. I'll set my timer for 4 am and we'll see, but Im not gonna get my hopes up or anything.
Fro 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 I full expect we'll see some longer matches once in a while, but while they're still introducing the roster, it's silly to take up that much TV time.
Magus 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 here's my take on Dallas vs. Styles for this Wednesday: it'll be decent at least, very good at most. why? because AJ STYLES is in it, people! AJ can carry him, and its not like Dallas is going to wrestle on every single show (at least, i hope not). right now, he's playing the bodygaurd role for Kid Kash, and its doing great for Kash. Dallas may look like Test, but this pairing is more like HBK/Diesel from back in the day. Kash has the total package, and Dallas is just there to help him out by cheating, interfering, and generally being his muscle. booking Styles vs. Dallas for the PPV only furthers the AJ/Kash fued. speaking of which, this is a fued that should go for a few months. hold off on the one-on-one title match for as long as you can, TNA. both men are terrific at what they do, and put together they have the potential to carry TNA with this angle. as Kash's bodygaurd, its expected that Dallas wrestle once or twice. but, since the X Division champion will be wrestling a heavyweight, there should definitely be a Contender's match (Kazarian, Red, Dutt, Shark-Boy, whoever) to see who gets to challenge AJ next. that's one thing i hate about a lot of today's booking. just because the champ is in a fued with someone, doesn't mean that everyone else in the division can't still challenge him. AJ should defend the X Title while mainly dealing with Kash. well, that was longer than i expected...
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted June 12, 2004 I think the longer matches will come once everyone's been introduced. The squash matches are a necessary evil to show who the mid and upper card guys are. Also factor in that Jarret, Killings and Styles need airtime on every show and the matches are going to be limited for right now. Though when you think about it, you're getting similar inring time to Raw and Smackdown minus the MEs.

Well maybe I would have had Monty just do an in ring promo or something, but otherwise, even the Red match, which was only 4 minutes, didn't feel like a squash. The AJ/Kazarian match was an excellent TV match (and should have be the ME) and the 3LK match was surprisingly fun. I didn't like the 6 man though, but that's because I'm sick of the whole X Cup business, though my new favorite heels are Team Canada and I'd love to see them sick around to feud with AMW. You can't have the mid to upper card guys lose the first match they participate in. Of course the higher card guys are going to be introduced through squash matches like has always been done in wrestling. At least they're trying to get the guys on the show. Once they've established everyone you'll see the matches extend more to the 4-6 minute mark.

And they can't very well run them longer than that average mark, because THAT'S THE HOOK for the PPV. If you like this guys in these short matches, imagine what they can do in longer matches, without commercials. Sure, they aren't going to give every match 20 mins, but when they shown lately and in the past that the big matches usually get the proper time to develop.
