Interesting IMPACT! alternative for DC area fans..

Recommended Posts

Thought this would be relevant for those like myself in the DC/Baltimore area stuck with Comcast Sportnet playing IMPACT! at 4 am (and not showing it about every other week for baseball replays), but Comcast starting June 16 is offering for an additional $5 a month for digital cable subscribers a sports package including FSN Atlantic, FSN Central and FSN Pacific along with FSN World, NBA TV and GOS TV (whatever that is). So, with this package, Impact! can be watched at the normal 3 pm time, and not face almost bi-weekly pre-emptions. I for one will likely be getting it (I figure 5 bucks a month for 4 Impact! shows and whatever else the channels offer is worth it considering I spend 10 bucks almost every week anyway). Just thought others having to deal with Comcast Sportsnet's shit would be interested in this.

EDIT: Thanks to BPS bringing about the following depressing interview, you can feel free to disregard the preceding... :(

Those channels don't always play Impact.

They didn't the first week...did this week (on Pacific at 4 pm) and aren't scheduled to next week.

throws hands in the air I give up. cries

What's the deal with those channels anyway? Are they not actually affiliated with specific markets, but are offered as cable/satellite channels?

Hey bps. I got an interesting proposition for you. I am gonna burn Friday's Impact on DVD for you. Though it's not my cap, (which I will start doing as soon as I get a video capture card) I can send you a copy of Impact on DVD for you. I can keep doing it for you after that. The only thing I would ask would be that you help me out with stuff like DVD cost, bubble envelope and shipping. You wouldn't have to worry about it the first couple of times while I am getting the kinks out. E-mail me off the forum and let me know what you think.

I can start extending this offer to other people later. I am just gonna offer it to moderators and Slapnuts (since he started the thread) for right now. So if any of the mods or you, Slapnuts, want it, e-mail me and let me know.

ReplayTV.

Swear to god.

You can go buy a refurbished model of the previous generation (trust me, it's better than the new 5500 line) from the manufacturer themselves here and unlike Tivo, it'll skip commercials for you automatically (assuming you get the early one, that feature started lawsuits so they had to take it out of the new ones).

And also unlike Tivo, you can use a program called DVArchive to download episodes off the ReplayTV in DVD-ready MPEG2 format, in case you have a DVD writer and want to make episodes for yourself.

But most importantly, you'll never cry over late-night Impact! shows again.

If you're willing to spend $5 a month on a bunch of channels you'll probably never watch otherwise after TNA, $13 a month for Replay's usefulness (after you buy the box) seems a fair deal to me.

My friend tapes the shows for me every week...so I do manage to get a copy.

I appreciate the offer though.

That's cool man. The offer does stand though. Just let me know if you ever want it. Like I said, the offer is available to all moderators, and a couple of other certain people (Slapnuts, Voice and Laz). PM me or e-mail if you want to know more.

HandofFate, I too appreciate the offer, but don't think it's neccesarry. It does play most of the time, and when it doesn't I've been directed to a torrent site that has the show up for download. Thanks though!

And Jobber, the frustration is not just with the late night slot, but the fact that it's not guarenteed to even air every week...

TNA repeated on FSN Digital last week and this week just fine.

Isn't the Digital channel just your local FSN affiliate (in your case, FSN NorthWest, in my case, FSN Bay Area?)

They're bringing a digital channel of Bay Area over here so we can get Giants/A's in HD.
