Michael Moore Hates America

I just want to add that I saw the segment The Daily Show did on Mike Wilson, and this movie looks to be pretty childish and unprofessional.

But hey, that's The Right for ya!

Oh my God, that was brilliant. Wilson came across as a complete dumbass who had no clue how to properly make a movie. Like when he's trying to get Moore's company's adress and it takes him forever to finally come up with the idea to call directory assistance. Then Samantha Bean lets them wander around like morons for an eternity and then finally "realized that I had Michael Moore's phone number."

The highlight was the part where she deadpan talks about how elusive and camera shy Michael Moore is and nobody will ever film him, as she walks right by him standing there nonchalantly on the side of the street.

what i want to know is why americans are so adamant about criticizing what moore is doing

he is exposing the truth and americans do not want to accept it, probably because americans stood behind bush's idiotic idea to go into iraq

michael moore doesnt hate america but what politicians such as bush are doing

why is this so hard to see?

BTW, from those previews it really doesn't look like the guy making it is at all disproving michael moore

Whoa, keep this non-political.

I think it's funny the guy wonders why someone wouldn't want to be in a film that's being made to discredit them and say they despise their own country. If someone was making a film called "Patrick Spoon is a Pigfucking Satanist" I wouldn't be too eager to sit down for an interview.

i got to see that 'daily show' segment, and it kind of distressed me. i think it was an unnecessary cheap shot at a beginning filmmaker. NOBODY making their first movie knows what the hell they're doing, and about 90% of learning how to make a movie consists of learning it the hard way. it's impossible to explain all the variables you have to worry about when you're trying to get a film made with a crew of 2 and (presumably) no funding.

"oh fuck, where's michael moore's office" is roughly the equivalent of "oh fuck, i didn't charge the camera battery last night" or "oh fuck, the wire to the mic was faulty, so all the footage we shot today is useless because it has no sound" or "oh fuck, i didn't white balance & now the walls look yellowish and they won't match the coverage i shot yesterday where the walls were white." i've seen and/or done every one of these. the logistics of shooting are insanely difficult, and it's almost impossible for one man to keep everything straight in his head. if you follow around any independent filmmaker for more than two hours, you'll get more than enough footage to be able to make him look like an ass. the artistry is in the final product, it makes no difference whatsoever how smoothly the shoot goes. and since we don't even have wilson's final product, it's asinine to show him as an incompetent filmmaker just because he wants to say inflammatory things about michael moore. it's EXACTLY the same logic as "michael moore says bad things about our president, so let's discredit him by saying he's a shitty director who doesn't know how to make a movie!" i have no doubt in my mind that moore himself made dozens of mistakes on 'roger and me' just like the one wilson got lampooned for.

this whole thing also made moore and samantha bean just look like assholes. of course moore has a right to not respond to wilson and one can easily understand why he'd not want to talk to him, but why does he have to rub the poor guy's nose in it by doing a cheap cameo for a comedian doing a story about him? it no longer has anything to do with either one's politics, and is deliberately looking down on wilson as a filmmaker. politics aside, i would think that moore would have at least enough respect for his craft by not resorting to cheapshots like this toward a "lesser" director.

I want to know how the dude is still filming, since he already had a trailer put together and everything. Wouldn't that mean he's done, or at least mostly done?

As for making fun of his mistakes, it wouldn't be meant for laughs if the guy wasn't making a laughable film and trying to make the impossible happen.

Are we bashing a movie we haven't SEEN yet here?

Shameful.

BTW, "The Daily Show" makes everybody who appears look foolish. It's their job.

nope, it's a common way of raising money. if you don't have money to get an entire feature made, you shoot as much footage as you can, edit together a trailer, and show it to potential backers in the hopes that they'll give you more funds. the coen brothers did it for 'blood simple', and there's a grad student here at UGA who did it for a documentary he's trying to get made.

and is that tori amos in your avatar? what video is that from?

I'm sure the Daily Show has absolute NO political axe to grind, Mike.

I still want to see this film very badly, as this film has the potential to be great because it's a parody not so much of Moore's politics, but of his own particular style of "documentary."

Daily Show is actually FAIRLY non-partisan in who they rip. They rip everybody (they made Sen. Graham of FL look foolish right after he got out of the Presidential race). It's their job.

However, Moore appearing in it IS exceptionally childish.

I don't know if this film is good or not. I will most likely buy it on DVD if it ever comes out. I doubt it'll get even mediocre reviews, and I doubt the critics will be as forgiving if Wilson distorts facts ala Moore.

But, we know squat about this movie, people. To call it "laughable" is insane.

BTW, this is Wilson's comment on the segment, from his website (MichaelMooreHatesAmerica.com):

UPDATE! The Daily Show just aired. It was hilarious. I have no regrets about doing it… and I have to say, I'm thoroughly impressed that Moore played along (even though the result was to take a shot at me). Perhaps his sense of humor about this is finally coming around. Samantha Bee is hilarious, and it was cool to hang out with her for the day. I'll check in tomorrow.

He definitely seemed to take it very well. Far better than some people take criticism of their work.

It's laughable in that it's someone on one far end of the spectrum making an entire film devoted to someone on the other far end and all of their complaints with the person. Both are equally extreme, and the end sum is zero.

and is that tori amos in your avatar? what video is that from?

You seem to know more than me about this. All I did was see someone use it on the Kylie.co.uk forums and gank it for myself. I can't even faintly recognize the girl in it.

Until you SEE the movie, how can you claim to know what is in it? Wilson has said that Moore is not the focus of the movie, as Roger Smith was not the FOCUS of "Roger & Me"

From the trailer, the guy's own interviews about it, stuff like that? Also, that it's called "Michael Moore Hates America," it's pretty easy to figure out what the subject is.

Again, until you SEE it, you're in extremely poor position to criticize its contents. Was "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot" NOTHING but bashing Rush? The trailer hardly discusses Moore so much as discussing his documentary technique and the inherent flaws in it.

Wow. Just wow.

What's there to wow?

Saying that griping about a movie nobody has SEEN yet is considered "bad" here now?

Wow, this board has changed A LOT in the past month.

You're bashing a film you haven't seen based on knowledge you don't have. I'm not saying this film is good or bad. I'm saying WE DON'T KNOW how this movie is and for it to even BE a topic here is a bit laughable, since this is supposed to be about movies and not political discussions.
