starvenger 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2004 I need to figure out what songs to use for my first and last dances when I get married (sure, it's next year, but, well, some things need to be determined waaaaay in advance. Apparently). So anyways, after discovering that quite a few of the ballads I like are about breaking up or are rather just depressing, I've decided that these are the ones I'd like to have. The lyrics seem to convey how I feel, and the songs themselves don't reek of cheese (except for the one by Sheriff - I have an inexplicable fondness for that one), so I think that they'll work. So anyways, help me out here. Please?

Yeah, it's definitely a good standby. stairway to heaven. Here's my question - what exactly is Plant trying to say with the lyrics? I've heard the story where he pretty much just threw the words together, but don't know if it's true...

starvenger 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2004 You have a say in the song selection process? Wow... She doesn't really pay attention to music, so it's pretty much up to me to choose the key songs. Although that may change when I tell her I'm working the theme song for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in there somewhere... Don't forget to throw in plenty of ass music The only problem with this is that Chinese people aren't exactly known for having much BUTT...

I've heard the story where he pretty much just threw the words together, but don't know if it's true... Wasn't he heavily inspired by Tolkien? Oh, and Al Green "Let's Stay Together" is clutch too. Trust me, that won't stop the DJ from throwing it in the player I don't doubt that. The problem is wiggling your ass if you've got none to speak of. Unintentional comedy... or just plain sad? NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2004 I honestly would have no idea in the world how to handle the music selection process, as I am sure 0% of the would-be guests are into the kind of music I like, and I am not even talking about the death/black metal stuff. My musical tastes vary, but I could honestly see people sitting around my wedding reception with puzzled looks on their faces thinking, "where is the BoyzIIMen, Brickhouse song, Nickelback, Creed, Mariah Carey etc...." I am however very fond of "The Greatest Love" by Whitney Houston, so I could see that song working quite well for the Bride/Groom dance.

In one way I wouldn't even want to deal with the planning, due to lack of care really, but then again I wouldn't want to end up her being force fed by her parents/family how to do things. Me and my girlfriend would surely agree on just about everything, however I could see our families trying to press their influence.
Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted June 23, 2004 I am getting hitched in a few months, and the song that my fiance and I have chosen is a country song by Lonestar, "Amazed". I really dislike country music, but this song was chosen because my fiance and I were dancing to it at her brother's wedding, and in her druken stupor, sang this song to me. At this point I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. So despite this being a country song, it is still a song which reminds me of a special moment. So maybe there is a song that reminds you of a special moment you may have shared. My suggestion to picking a first dance song is determine if there ever been any special slow songs that you and your future wife may have experienced where either you know she is the one, or you knew she was the one at that point, or maybe it was the first song you ever danced to. If none of this applies, then do a little research on the most popular songs which are played for the first dance. Make a list, and then if you have a downloading service, try to download the songs. Listen to the lyrics and see if they relate to your relationship. Each song can mean something different for each couple. And if you really despise a certain type of music, then cross it off your list. But you never know, so try to keep an open mind until you actually get a chance to listen. But the songs that are chosen on the poll, are all good choices. I personally would go with Heaven, as that was my choice. As for last song, depending if you go slow or fast. If you choose slow, try to pick a song that maybe highlights the wide open life that lays ahead. A song like that Green Day song was the last song played at a wedding I just attended. But if you choose to go fast, I would recomend "Last Dance" by Donna Summer. Whatever you choose, have fun with it. The first dance song should be something you can listen too anytime. Make sure you don't pick a song which you can't stand. My fiance's brother and his wife danced that Aerosmith song from Armageddon. I hate that song with a passion and no way would I ever agree to dance to it. So make sure you like the song.

My old man is throwing a fit because we're doing an adult-only reception. No way we're including the little spaz-oids that spawned from the loins of our relatives -- the only exception to this rule are the 2-4 kids that will be involved in the ceremony. The old man said if I did this I will create a bitter divide between me and the rest of my family (all of whom I haven't seen in almost at least 8 years). I said "good..." All the songs I put in the poll have meaningful lyrics, and I think convey the message I want, so it's all good. Personally I lean towards "Never Tear Us Apart", partially because "Kick" is the first album I ever bought...

I plan on having mine the same way, little kids have no reason to be there. I have always hated the fact that people feel it's appropriate to bring their kids to events such as a wedding. I'll be damned if I have a little kid cry through the ceremony or run around and ruin shit at the reception. I even told my fmaily, I don't give a shit if my brother is married and has a baby, he can leave the baby at home with a sitter or just not come. He knows this and feels the same way I do with kids at special events.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2004 Funny thing is when my old man first heard about this he said "Talk to other people before making this decision." So I did. And everyone I talked to (4/5 of them) all said they had "adult-only" and loved it because everyone didn't have to worry about their kids and got to have a night to themselves. Another funny thing is that one of the people my old man said wouldn't show up if they weren't allowed to bring their kid is my one half-brother -- I didn't have the heart to tell him that he wasn't going to be invited anyway. Dad will find out when he doesn't see my half-bro there...
