After reading about Al's complaints about OaO threads, I got to thinking about it, and I'm conflicted. Unlike the OaO threads in, say, the WWE folder, the OaO threads here do contain some pretty good discussion (the NBA and NHL playoff threads, the weekly baseball threads), and don't fall into a "chat-like" vibe.

But I do share the belief with Al in that big stories probably deserve their own threads (a big trade, a big FA signing, drafts).

So I'm putting this to the people. Should we ditch the OaO system, or leave things as it is? I'm not going to do anything right now, since I have no problems with anything, but I'm willing to change things if people think they should be changed.

Well, I didn't see this thread, so I'll put what I said in the other thread here:

I'd have to agree with Al here. I feel for more noteworthy stuff that would get a decent number of replies, it shouldn't be restricted to an OAO. I do think a OAO type thread for more minor stuff like smaller signings, re-signings that are practically foregone conlusions, and minor trades would be useful because it might not get more than a few replies otherwise. Notable stuff should gets its own topic, but I think an OAO type thread for more of the minor stuff would be useful, and would eliminate some of the clutter that might get 3 or 4 replies. For instance, the Phil gets fired thread should gets its own thread, while, something like "Martin Gerber gets traded to the Carolina Hurricanes for a prospect and a pick" would probably be better off in the hypothetical OAO thread.

I honestly don't care either way.

OAO theads are good for stuff that doesn't deserve a solo topic. I also see the postives of making seperate threads for something that deserves a solo topic.

If I was asked to make a rule it would be OAO threads for run of the mill everyday stuff and solo threads for major newsworthy stuff.

Things are fine the way they are. Nothing's stopping anyone from starting a thread for news items they think are big, anyway.

I think the current system is fine.

In my opinion, the news about the Lakers warranted it's own thread.

Just drop the "OaO" titles and go with "Official" like I did for the MLB Offseason Topic. I made it clear that the larger stories of the offseason deserved their own thread, and did with things like the A-Rod trade, but for just general discussion that thread was perfect for it. The "OaO" label is silly and pointless but it is good to have core topics on a particular subject such as the weekly baseball topics.

I would suggest though we have "OaO" topic for a certain poster, for a certain sport, for a certain team, so they can bitch non-stop about them without flooding other topics during that particular sport's season. And I'm not talking about Anglesault. I'll leave it up to others to figure it out.

That's the way it should be...

• OaO/official threads about the season to include scores, minor trades, injuries, game discussions

• Things that warrant their own threads should get their own: Kobe's trial, the potential NHL strike, etc.

I like that idea Bored. The first one, not the second one. I guess to some people the title "One and Only" gives the wrong impression sometimes.

That's pretty much how things are going right now. I won't stop anyone from putting up a thread if they think the topic is important enough. But we should keep a general thread for general stuff.

Guest Smell the ratings!!!

At the very least you should keep the OaO threads for game chat. But yeah, when someone starts a topic about big news it's not like they get bitched at.

OaO topics make sense when it's a topic that several people might make a thread for. "OaO this sunday in the NFL," "OaO Raw thread," etc.

I wouldn't agree with an OaO "NBA offseason" thread, because who really wants to go sifting through 36 pages of shit when you just want to check out a couple points on the Kobe trial, f'rinstance.

Save the one-and-only business for stuff that happens in a short period of time that garners a lot of responses, like the Super Bowl, shit like that.

Count me in the majority ... OaO works for things like the hockey & basketball playoffs, but if there's a big enough story it deserves it own thread. If someone starts a thread over some trivial shit that should be in a OaO, it can be merged or purged as needed.

Plus, am I the only one that never views "One and Only" at face value? As in, just because there's a OaO thread, I don't care to see an individual thread on a similar or related subject. One and Only never really meant one and only to me.

I don't like OAO threads -- too much crap to sift through.

TOAO Racist Dusty thread. Hmm...

Thanks for the input, everyone. I've decided not to do anything drastic, since most seem to be okay with how things are going now.
