KingPK 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2004 I think the real pressing issue this week is wether or not the Devil Rays can keep their league best 11 game winning streak going. They may not be in the division race for a long time because of the top two teams, but they could be vying for the Wild Card in a few years if they keep developing young players. Getting a real MLB pitching staff won't hurt, either.

I like Sweet Lou and Lee Mazzilli, so I'd like to see them finish a distant third and fourth, but far enough ahead of the Blue Jays that it's somewhat impressive. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted June 21, 2004 I hate Mondays. Why must my Yankees wait another day to tear someone's head off? They must be simmering after last night's fiasco.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted June 21, 2004 Why does'nt Dave Roberts the outfielder of the Dodgers start every game? Mainly because they just have an abundance of OFs/1B. They can move Shawn Green to first but Ventura also plays there. Basically their OFs and 1B are Green, Ventura(who can also play third of course), Olmedo Saenz, Milton Bradley, Dave Roberts, Jayson Werth, Juan Encarnacion, and Jason Grabowski. That's 8 guys and only 4 positions.

That may be an optical illusion, but isn't that K-Zone box a bit narrow? It looks like it cuts off the outside quarter of the plate.

Getting a real MLB pitching staff won't hurt, either. It looks like BJ Upton could be in the majors by September. He's only 19 but he's already tearing apart Triple-A in the stats I've seen. Unfortunately for the rest of the AL East this is another speed demon as he has 8 steals in the 36 games he's played up in Triple-A. His defense is still iffy but he's a great prospect. Between Carl Crawford, Rocco Baldelli, BJ Upton, Aubrey Huff, Toby Hall, Delmon Young, Dewon Brazelton, and Josh Hamilton (if he ever gets off drugs) this team could be lethal. They still need alot more pitching but in 2 years their offense is going to be all around hard outs.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2004 Josh Hamilton is clean from what I've read, but his baseball career is in serious jeopardy.

That may be an optical illusion, but isn't that K-Zone box a bit narrow? It looks like it cuts off the outside quarter of the plate. The official reason (which I speculated on last night) was that it is being done to compensate for the camera not being directly behind the pitcher. It matches up correctly. I suggest you watch the clip on ESPN or YES on Mike and the Mad Dog if you have that. It's alot more obvious in motion.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2004 If they were compensating for the camera angle, wouldn't the left side of K-Zone extend just as much beyond the other side of the plate? It doesn't. And to clarify the rules, all the ball has to do is nick the plate, at any point during its trajectory.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted June 21, 2004 (edited) If they were compensating for the camera angle, wouldn't the left side of K-Zone extend just as much beyond the other side of the plate? It doesn't. . I don't think it would. That would just be shifting the whole box over instead of adjusting the angle. Write ESPN and ask. And to clarify the rules, all the ball has to do is nick the plate, at any point during its trajectory. Good. It never did. Otherwise, why is K Zone smaller than home plate. Good. It never did. It certainly could have. An inch or two to the left during its trajectory, and its a solid strike. As an aside, why didn't Hideki vehimently argue the call if it was such a goddamned tragedy.

Otherwise, why is K Zone smaller than home plate. I don't understand technical stuff, and I'm just relaying the information that was given that at least makes some degree of sense to me. I so know that shifting the whole box wouldn't work though. That's just moving the whole strikezone. It certainly could have And I could have led a past life as a French revolutionary. I didn't. Baseball isn't a game of "well, it could have...) it's "did it, or didn't it? It didn't. why didn't Hideki vehimently argue the call if it was such a goddamned tragedy. Because he doesn't speak English? Alot of good screaming at an ump in Japanese after the game would do him. Selig would have him suspended at the drop of a hat. I don't think I've seen Matsui argue since he's come here.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2004 This whole bitching about officiating is getting really silly. You cannot make it perfect, and anyone, given time, can produce examples of how their team has been screwed by bad calls. This one is particularly idiotic, because even if the pitch is called a ball, Miguel Cairo is up next. You're just delaying the inevitable. Grow up.

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted June 21, 2004 Right now I don't see that as a negative Ha. There are a grand total of five baseball games on tonight. Nothing worth actually wasting my time watching, even if I could see them. I hate Mondays. The least they can do is throw is a fucking Mets game for me to watch. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2004 Im waiting for Rob E Dangerously to come in here and laugh at the Orioles (oh wait, he brought it up in last weeks thread..): The Orioles got the right-handed reliever they needed, acquiring Jason Grimsley in a trade with the Kansas City Royals on Monday. Baltimore gave up right-handed prospect Denny Bautista for Grimsley, who immediately agreed to a contract extension through 2005. Grimsley, 36, is 3-3 with a 3.38 ERA in 32 appearances for the Royals this season. Since signing with Kansas City before the 2001 season, Grimsley leads AL relievers with 251 appearances, with a 3.94 ERA over that span. For his career, he's 38-50 with a 4.75 ERA in 13 seasons. Bautista, 23, began the season at Double-A Bowie before making his major league debut on May 25. He made two relief appearances, allowing eight runs in two innings, before being optioned back to Bowie. The Orioles' bullpen has struggled since right-hander Rodrigo Lopez was made a starter in May. Lopez was sent back to the bullpen last week, but injuries may force manager Lee Mazzilli to return him to the rotation. YOU DONT TRADE A 23 YEAR OLD PITCHING PROSPECT FOR A 37 YEAR OLD WASHED UP RELIEF PITCHER!!!!

Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted June 22, 2004 YOU DONT TRADE A 23 YEAR OLD PITCHING PROSPECT FOR A 37 YEAR OLD WASHED UP RELIEF PITCHER!!!! Especially when they could have just picked Curtis Lescanik up off waivers for nothing. While he struggled at times it looked like towards the end he got into a groove. There's talk of the Red Sox signing him so they can send Anastacio Martinez back to Triple-A.
