Bored 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 http://cbs.sportsline.com/olympics/story/7446260 Report: Montgomery testified of steroid use by him, Bonds June 24, 2004 SportsLine.com wire reports SAN FRANCISCO -- Tim Montgomery testified last year that he used human growth hormone and an undetectable steroid, and that the man at the center of a Bay Area steroid ring told him he supplied Barry Bonds with performance-enhancing drugs, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The newspaper's report Thursday includes direct quotes from Montgomery's testimony to the federal grand jury that investigated the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative. The Chronicle did not say how it obtained the information; it is illegal to give grand jury testimony to the media.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 What? Bonds is on steroids? Why is this the first that I've heard of this?!? /wake me when it's proven
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 So I'm supposed to believe they have quotes that prove Bonds is a roid user even though it is against Federal law to have said quotes? Oh ok. And the SF Chronicle is a bastain of intergrity. He may have, he may not have, but it'll be a cold day in hell before I believe the Chronicle.
Guest goyanks52599 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 Truth is that that the smart money says that we will never know for sure whether or not Bonds did use. Sure there is a ton of evidence suggesting it, but it can all be denied and/or attributed to weight lifting and supplements. Short of him flipping out in the outfield, charging in and biting Alfonzo's head off in a roid rage their will never be any proof.
Bored 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 It should be noted the Chronicle has part ownership in the Giants so they have little to gain by trying smear the franchise's best player.

Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted June 24, 2004 The fact he isn't willing to take random piss tests shows he's done them in my eyes. If he's innocent then he has nothing to hide. Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2004 So if it's ever proven that he actually did take them....are his records erased? Gaylord Perry blatantly admitted to cheating throughout his entire career. Are his records erased? There you go.

Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2004 So if it's ever proven that he actually did take them....are his records erased? Erased, no; they happened. But whether or not they'll be acknowledged and accepted by millions of baseball fans remains to be seen. If he took steroids, then Bonds is a cheater, and his accomplishments should be held in a lesser light because of that. As for PErry, his cheating was part of his wacky charm. And I think he only got caught doctoring the ball once.

And I think he only got caught doctoring the ball once. The point I was making is that if Bonds gets "caught" I doubt it will ever be due to a positive test. So if all they ever get against him is some testimony or documents, that's hardly any worse than Perry, who entitled his autobiography "Me and the Spitter" and revelled in the fact that he cheated throughout his entire career and didn't get caught doing it. Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2004 The point I was making is that if Bonds gets "caught" I doubt it will ever be due to a positive test. It won't. If he's taken steroids in the past, it's a lock that he's been off them for a couple years now. Circumstantial evidence and hearsay shouldn't ruin anyone. If Bonds was a steroid user, I want to see the proof, and real proof at that.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2004 SAN FRANCISCO -- Tim Montgomery testified last year that he used human growth hormone and an undetectable steroid, and that the man at the center of a Bay Area steroid ring told him he supplied Barry Bonds with performance-enhancing drugs, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. So Tim Montgomery relays information from a man currently indicted by the federal government, in testimony which is not supposed to leave the Grand Jury. To say the information is highly suspect is an understatement. It hardly qualifies as proof. The fact he isn't willing to take random piss tests shows he's done them in my eyes. If he's innocent then he has nothing to hide. Either way he's the biggest asshole in professional sports to day(Romo did retire right?). Bullshit, on two counts. One, not taking random piss tests is not an admission of guilt. Its a desire for privacy. If its not part of woprk regulations, then I cannot imagine anyone who would submit to a random drug test. Second, Bonds is far from the biggest asshole in sports. The only thing I've ever seen from him is surliness. No off-the-field incidents. Doesn't argue often with umpires. I can't remember him brawling on the field. There are dozens of characters in baseball, and professional sports, worse than Bonds. So if it's ever proven that he actually did take them....are his records erased? Not at all. And for the historical perspective, I'll say it again. Babe Ruth corked a bat or two in his day. Ted Williams may have. Athletes have been looking for a competitive advantage ever since the game began. As for Perry, his cheating was part of his wacky charm. And I think he only got caught doctoring the ball once. That's correct Tom. And keep in mind the other team is LOOKING for this stuff from Perry. I think he actually doctored the ball far less than we think, although he did it plenty of times.
Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2004 I have this same arguement all the time at the bar. I get so tired of people calling Bonds an asshole because he doesn't want to talk to the media. Why would he? All the media does anymore is try to find the worst in everyone and air it over and over. So the guy doesn't want to be your friend when he's out with his family. He doesn't owe anyone anything. You buy your ticket to see him play. He plays. Contract satisfied. End of story.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted June 25, 2004 I just giggled with glee. Barry will blame the white man. And Global Warming, just to keep with his trend of ranting on issues and not making sense. I have this same arguement all the time at the bar. I get so tired of people calling Bonds an asshole because he doesn't want to talk to the media. Well, that, and that awful foot-in-mouth disease he has.

As far as his attitude goes he just called Boston a racist city after having never been here. He got into a fight with Jeff Kent who seems to be getting along with everybody in Houston. Sean McDonough the other day said on a televised ESPN baseball broadcast that when asked who's the MLB player he least likes to come in contact with its Barry Bonds because he's a jerk. Rico Petracelli, former Red Sox SS and 3B the other day said he met Bonds 2 years ago and the guy treated him like shit. The man is a complete and utter asshole. In some issues you just refuse to open your eyes to things.

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted June 25, 2004 I missed the "Hank Aaron comment". What was it? Barry compared all the nasty letters that he got from people who think he's on steroids to all the hate filled letters Aaron got for being a black man chasing a white man's record. Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2004 That and getting into a fight with Jim Leyland during Spring training. Yeah, because players and managers NEVER argue. There's an old saying: it takes two to make an argument. Don't let Leyland off scot-free while you're so eager to nail Bonds to the cross. That and getting into a shoving match with Andy Van Slyke during an April game against Cincy. That and getting into a verbal spat, which almost came to blows, with fellow asshole Jeff Kent. Yawn. Players argue, especially type-A personalities in the heat of competition. As with the Leyland incident, some blame needs to get put on the other parties, as well. If he wanted to clear his name he could take random piss testing for a month or two. Maybe he doesn't care what the average person thinks? And considering the way many people are shitting all over him for unproven allegations, why the fuck should he care? Y'know, if I were rich and famous, and people kept hinting that I'd done drugs, I'd just remind them that I could buy and sell their entire family 100 times before breakfast. As far as his attitude goes he just called Boston a racist city after having never been here. Several black players who have played there, for Boston teams, have said the same thing. He got into a fight with Jeff Kent who seems to be getting along with everybody in Houston. See above. Sean McDonough the other day said on a televised ESPN baseball broadcast that when asked who's the MLB player he least likes to come in contact with its Barry Bonds because he's a jerk. So what? OMG one reporter hates him; he MUST be a waste of skin... I'm sure Tim McCarver would say something similar about Deoin Sanders. Rico Petracelli, former Red Sox SS and 3B the other day said he met Bonds 2 years ago and the guy treated him like shit. I must've missed the Be Nice to Rico Law. Maybe it's just a Sox fanboy thing... The man is a complete and utter asshole. And that's entirely his right. He doesn't have to be nice to anyone, and people should have learned that and stopped expecting it years ago.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted June 25, 2004 Several black players who have played there, for Boston teams, have said the same thing. At least they're basing it on actual first hand experiences rather than "Well, my cousin's husband's sister's drycleaner thought it might be..." and some experience his father had twenty something years ago. Guys like Robert Parish and Jim Rice are worshipped here. I go to Boston pretty often and I've never seen any racist happenings. I have however seen somebody mugged near a fruit stand. Guest MikeSC Report post Posted June 25, 2004 Bonds is NO worse than DiMaggio, or Williams, or any of a LARGE number of Hall of Famers. "Assholes" have existed in baseball since its inception. Hell, Ruth was a prick and a half in Boston (his unprofessionalism WAS one of the reasons he was sold to the Yankees). -=Mike
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted June 25, 2004 DiMaggio and Williams were both war heroes. I have no clue about Joey D but I do know Teddy Ballgame was a real nice guy. My mother's uncles met him back in the 60s and asked him a couple baseball related questions...he sat down and just talked baseball and hitting with them for 30min...then talked fishing with them for another 10min. The Boston media was cruel to Williams because he wore his emotions onhis sleeve and they knew they could make a story out of it.

And DiMaggio makes Bonds look like a nice, sweet guy in comparison. You can be a war hero all day long --- if you're an ass, you're an ass. -=Mike

Mean and rude to the other team and umps and whatnot, but apparently he was a gentleman off the field. At least that's what some ballplayers from his era (Yogi, for instance) say. Joltin Joe was, well, a strange guy. Apparently the whole Marilyn situation fucked him up more than anything.
