Report: Montgomery testified of steroid use by him, Bonds

  SAN FRANCISCO -- Tim Montgomery testified last year that he used human growth hormone and an undetectable steroid, and that the man at the center of a Bay Area steroid ring told him he supplied Barry Bonds with performance-enhancing drugs, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

 

The newspaper's report Thursday includes direct quotes from Montgomery's testimony to the federal grand jury that investigated the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative. The Chronicle did not say how it obtained the information; it is illegal to give grand jury testimony to the media.

Truth is that that the smart money says that we will never know for sure whether or not Bonds did use. Sure there is a ton of evidence suggesting it, but it can all be denied and/or attributed to weight lifting and supplements. Short of him flipping out in the outfield, charging in and biting Alfonzo's head off in a roid rage their will never be any proof.

The point I was making is that if Bonds gets "caught" I doubt it will ever be due to a positive test. So if all they ever get against him is some testimony or documents, that's hardly any worse than Perry, who entitled his autobiography "Me and the Spitter" and revelled in the fact that he cheated throughout his entire career and didn't get caught doing it.

It won't. If he's taken steroids in the past, it's a lock that he's been off them for a couple years now. Circumstantial evidence and hearsay shouldn't ruin anyone. If Bonds was a steroid user, I want to see the proof, and real proof at that.

So Tim Montgomery relays information from a man currently indicted by the federal government, in testimony which is not supposed to leave the Grand Jury. To say the information is highly suspect is an understatement. It hardly qualifies as proof.

Bullshit, on two counts. One, not taking random piss tests is not an admission of guilt. Its a desire for privacy. If its not part of woprk regulations, then I cannot imagine anyone who would submit to a random drug test.

 

Second, Bonds is far from the biggest asshole in sports. The only thing I've ever seen from him is surliness. No off-the-field incidents. Doesn't argue often with umpires. I can't remember him brawling on the field. There are dozens of characters in baseball, and professional sports, worse than Bonds.

Not at all. And for the historical perspective, I'll say it again. Babe Ruth corked a bat or two in his day. Ted Williams may have. Athletes have been looking for a competitive advantage ever since the game began.

That's correct Tom. And keep in mind the other team is LOOKING for this stuff from Perry. I think he actually doctored the ball far less than we think, although he did it plenty of times.

Rico Petracelli, former Red Sox SS and 3B the other day said he met Bonds 2 years ago and the guy treated him like shit. The man is a complete and utter asshole. In some issues you just refuse to open your eyes to things.

Yeah, because players and managers NEVER argue. There's an old saying: it takes two to make an argument. Don't let Leyland off scot-free while you're so eager to nail Bonds to the cross.

Maybe he doesn't care what the average person thinks? And considering the way many people are shitting all over him for unproven allegations, why the fuck should he care? Bonds has never been to Boston though. The racist days of Boston are long gone. Guys like Robert Parish and Jim Rice are worshipped here. I go to Boston pretty often and I've never seen any racist happenings. I have however seen somebody mugged near a fruit stand.

Bonds is NO worse than DiMaggio, or Williams, or any of a LARGE number of Hall of Famers. "Assholes" have existed in baseball since its inception. Hell, Ruth was a prick and a half in Boston (his unprofessionalism WAS one of the reasons he was sold to the Yankees).

My mother's uncles met him back in the 60s and asked him a couple baseball related questions...he sat down and just talked baseball and hitting with them for 30min...then talked fishing with them for another 10min. The Boston media was cruel to Williams because he wore his emotions onhis sleeve and they knew they could make a story out of it.

Everything I've read says that Williams was an ass as a player. And DiMaggio makes Bonds look like a nice, sweet guy in comparison.

Teddy was a real ass on the field. Mean and rude to the other team and umps and whatnot, but apparently he was a gentleman off the field. At least that's what some ballplayers from his era (Yogi, for instance) say.

 

Joltin Joe was, well, a strange guy. Apparently the whole Marilyn situation fucked him up more than anything.
