The homeplate ump for the Red Sox and Braves game must have plans later today because he's just screwing both teams now to speed up the game. Called Manny out on strikes when the ball was shin high and way outside, now just called Julio Franco out on a check swing which didn't go 1/3 of the way. He might as well just tell both teams the game is over and to forget about the 8th and 9th innings.

Manny got a break on what should have been called strike three and was called a ball instead, so I think the actual strike three call was to make up for it.

The Reds turned it into a game, scoring three in the 8th to tie things up. They get a leadoff double in the 9th, followed by a walk with Griffey, Dunn and Larkin due up. And they don't score. Awesome.

This Yanks and Mets game is pretty good, too. Looked like the Mets wouldn't have much trouble sweeping the Yanks, but now we're in a see-saw game with some 8th inning controversy going down at the moment.

Basically Posada just made a bad base-running move and ended up getting hit by a ball on his way to second, which obviously meant he was out. Had he avoided it, the Yanks would've had two runners on because the ball hit was a base hit. Torre argued something along the lines that Piazza got a glove on it before it hit Posada and played the game under protest. The Mets have since gone on to take another lead on another Ty Wiggenton homer (second of the game) and they're two outs from sweeping the Yanks.

EDIT: And A-Rod grounds out to end the game and leave the tying run on. Great game and what a difference a week makes. This Hidalgo trade is looking like a huge steal for the Mets, as he's hit seven homers with the team in two weeks with them, after hitting only four with the Astros all season.

Speaking of homers, Morgan Ensberg hit another one today, making that three on the season and his third in as many days. The big goose egg in the homer column for him has been big talk all season, so I'm sure Stros fans are happy to see him coming alive like this.

Bah. It landed in the second row of the Crawford Boxes, making it an out at any other ballpark. Not really an epic shot at all. That ridiculously short left field is one thing I hate about Minute Maid, regardless of whichever team it is hitting "home runs" there.

The Astros will need Ensberg though, as Jeff Bagwell looks older and older each passing day. He's been in a horrible slump and is showing zero signs of coming out of it.

The beautiful thing is, I have both Texiera and Blalock on my Fantasy team. Between the two of them the rest of the offense could have done shit and it still make for a good day.

Rule 7.09

A runner is out when...

interference.(m) A fair ball touches him on fair territory before touching a fielder. If a fair ball goes through, or by, an infielder, and touches a runner immediately back of him, or touches the runner after having been deflected by a fielder, the umpire shall not declare the runner out for being touched by a batted ball. In making such decision the umpire must be convinced that the ball passed through, or by, the fielder, and that no other infielder had the chance to make a play on the ball. If, in the judgment of the umpire, the runner deliberately and intentionally kicks such a batted ball on which the infielder has missed a play, then the runner shall be called out for interference.

Whatever. I really don't care about Mets games any more than any other series.

All-Star announcements in 30 minutes on ESPN.

On the A's/Giants game, the Giants announcers were saying that Carlos Beltran would be on the A.L. team if he makes the team because he was on the A.L. player ballot. I can't imagine they wouldn't just work something out where he'd be on the N.L. but that would bizarre if that scenerio played out.

A.L. Starters.

Ivan Rodriguez

Jason Giambi

Alfonso Soriano (leading vote getter)

Alex Rodriguez

Derek Jeter

Manny Ramirez

Vladimir Guerrero

Ichiro Suzuki

Japanese vote helps Ichiro out yet again although this time it knocks out his fellow countryman in Matsui. Guess we know who's more popular there.

N.L. Starters

Mike Piazza

Albert Pujols

Jeff Kent

Scott Rolen (leading vote getter)

Edgar Renteria

Barry Bonds

Ken Griffey Jr.

Sammy Sosa

No surprises. No idea who bats lead off. Guess maybe Renteria but he's easily the worst hitter in the group.

A.L. Pitchers

Francisco Rodriguez

Curt Schilling

Esteban Loaiza

C.C. Sabathia

Joe Nathan

Tom Gordon

Mariano Rivera

Tim Hudson

Mark Mulder

Francisco Cordero

Kenny Rogers

Ted Lilly

TED LILLY? Oh please Halladay and Batista both were better options for the Blue Jays. Five relievers, bleh. Loaiza was a bit of surprise although it is a weak year for A.L. starters. If Radke didn't have a 4-4 record he'd have made it.

Pedro is snubbed as well but he probably would have sat the game out.

I'm kind of glad that Halladay's not there due to his shoulder injury, although I probably would have taken either Batista or Frasor over Lilly.

Danny Kolb

Ben Sheets

Livan Hernandez

Tom Glavine

Jason Schmidt

Except for Graves, these were great picks.

I'm pleased to see the fans got it together and did not vote Adam Everett to start the game. He might have been the worst starting SS in ASG history.

Oh, and I sit in amazement at ESPN's ability to turn this into a whole hour show.

Carlos Beltran is named to the team but can't play. Lame.

A.L. Reserves

Miguel Tejada

David Ortiz

Ronnie Belliard

Matt Lawton

Victor Martinez

Carlos Guillen

Ken Harvey

Gary Sheffield

Carl Crawford

Hank Blalock

Michael Young

Frank Thomas and Jorge Posada are the biggest snubs although can't complain about Victor Martinez over Posada as that was the close call for me. Matt Lawton the most undeserving to make it all be it a weak year for A.L. outfielders. Players still think batting average means something too which is why Crawford makes it over Curz as the Deil Ray rep.

Oh forgot about Lew Ford too. Hell he was the easiest reserve outfielder for me to pick but guess the players never heard of him either.

4 Indians, and 1 White Sox.

The Sox have no position players, despite having the most runs scored in the big leagues.

To be fair, Lew Ford deserves to go by far though, and him not going is one of the bigger snubs this year.

Al is going to kill Jack McKeon.

Why is Barry being selected a issue to call out? He's still at the age of 39 among the best SS in the Nationals.

So with the teams selected...

What you think is the biggest story?

NL 500 CLUB OUTFIELD?

Old Man Clemens starts(likely) at Home.

something else?

32nd Man ballots.

A.L.

Lew Ford

Travis Hafner

Paul Konerko

Hideki Matsui

Frank Thomas

N.L.

Bobby Abreu

Steve Finley

Jason Kendall

Juan Pierre

Aramis Ramirez

Thomas and Abreu are my picks. Matsui though is probably lock to get voted with the Yankee and Japanese internet vote. N.L. is a toss up.

Where's Melvin Mora? Adam Dunn?

JUAN PIERRE?

Jesus Fucking Christ. WHAT THE HELL DOES BOBBY ABREU HAVE TO DO TO MAKE AN ALL-STAR TEAM?! 4th in the league in OBP (.444). 10th in the league in slugging percentage (.576). 7th in the league in OPS (1.021). 4th in the league in stolen bases. 7th in the league in runs created. 4th in the league in Win Shares. And the fucks in charge of player selection can't see fit to place him among the 20 best players of the National League?

All year we've had the point hammered into us that "this game counts." If the game is so goddamned important, why are inferior players selected?

Another thing, why is Aramis Ramirez on the 32nd man ballot and Adrian Beltre isn't? It just doesn't make sense, maybe not as much as Pierre over Dunn but still.
