Red Sox-Yankees Series

Recommended Posts

So I finally saw the fight. And A-Rod has to take the blame here. He didn't have to start jawing at Arroyo, and he CERTAINLY didn't have to explode at Varitek and CHALLENGE HIM to fight. What the hell could Tek POSSIBLY have said to him in the 3 seconds it took for A-Rod to go off like that?

A-Rod should get a few games for this. If you get hit, just shut up and jog to first. Hit a homer off the guy in your next at-bat to get him back.

You want to start something. Not in the mood to deal with fucking Red Sox fans who are being cocky because they won one game but fail to realize that they are still 8 games back of the Yankees.

Thanks.

If you don't want to deal with them, don't volunteer discussion in a topic discussing the Series right after the Sox have won a game. This forum didn't barge down your door and shove itself in your face.

Thanks.

Also as a Red Sox fan, Varitek often walks with the hit batsmen to 1st base and as far as I can recollect, he's never come to blows with them. Upon seeing the fisticuffs, I'd also put the blame on A-Rod and he got plunked in the freaking elbow. Not like he got nailed in the head or anything really serious like that.

Tek does that because it's the right thing to do. Not only does it protect his pitcher, but it can calm the player that's been hit down.

Buck & McCarver had the great lines of "I can't quite tell what A-Rod said"

Since MLB usually reduces games, do you think today lessened the chances of Ortiz getting dropped form with added games probably coming?

No, Ortiz won't get any added games. If he does then its bullshit because he was trying to get somebody off of another person's throat.

Why can't Yankee fans entertain the idea that A-Rod, like the rest of his teammates, have become so captivated by this bitter rivalry that they'll blow every single thing out of proportion just to add another chapter to it? I won't lie, I found the brawl to be entertaining, but this shit gets old.

Pitchers hit batters from time to time. It happens. Yet, it seems that everytime it happens when these two are involved, people like to think it certainly means it was on purpose. If you ask me, it looked like A-Rod was just getting caught up in it all and was looking for a fight. It wasn't as if the Yanks had just scored or done something that would suggest the beaming was on purpose.

Who the hell cares how calm A-Rod usually is? So is David Ortiz and look what happened with him last week. There are occassions in which even the most sensible guys have their moments of pure rage. I think today was one for A-Rod.

And Drury, please stop posting. You've gotta be one of the most annoying people in these threads. At least Anglesault conveys a sense of knowledge when it comes to the Yankees and their history. I see your posts and they just scream bandwagon fan. I didn't see anyone really gloating about the Sox winning; so get the stick out of your ass; grow some thicker skin and please, remove this site from your bookmarks. For the sake of us all.

Totally agree with everything you just said.

It was a slider/breaking pitch that got away. A-Rod pulled a Manny Game 3 and overreacted. Tek did what he was supposed to.

The neutral site game would have to be somewhere with a big enough stadium and at least east of the Missisippi. And natural grass.

I propose either of the Pennsylvania major league stadiums. It'd be phat and a half.

Also, in this discussion, not enough is being put on how badly both teams were playing, the really high score, and a walk-off home run. I mean, that's some thrilling shit, and between the most heated rivals in sports!

It's about the game, man. I personally don't give a shit who started what in what fight. I'm there to see them play the game.

Awesome game. Hope they meet again in the playoffs. These two teams hate each other so much. This is by far the greatest rivalry ever.

Good god the double standards around here.

Overreacted like Manny!? Let's start off by making it clear A-rod actually got hit, where'as Manny flipped out at something that was closer to hitting the plate than him.

Varitek was playing peace maker!? Since when do peacemakers start fights? He's doing his job, than decides he wants to say more, A-rod has none of his shit so he calls him on it and a fight insues.

Where did it start? With Varitek saying whatever he said that made A-rod get that mad. Whatever he said took A-rod from one level of anger to the next, so clearly it was something that could of been done with out.

It's literally laughable at how quick some people will jump at villianizing the Yankees, I mean some of these replies painted a completely different picture than what I saw when I finally caught the replay. I thought I'd see A-rod get hit, start mouthing to the pitcher, then go after Tek for getting in the middle, and it was nothing like that.

Best thing about that game was the walk off, both teams got to give there crowds an enjoyable classic this year and there's still ball to be played. Just goes to show how despite all the dellusions of grandure some people might experience, good baseball will be played.

Yeah, I never actually saw the part where A-Rod jawed at the pitcher. Heck, I thought it was a bit suspicious that he got hit with 2 outs and no one on. A-Rod took exception to that and just stared him down. The fact that A-Rod got that pissed would mean that Varitek said something to him. A-Rod always stares someone down after he gets hit by a pitch but he never starts cursing at them and picks a fight.

I think it should be noted to for everyone saying 'he should of just walked to first' that he WAS walking to first, before Vtek involved himself.

From a impartial POV: Everyone was in the wrong.

Trash talk is fine, but whatever Veritak (sp?) said must've been beyond the normal "you suck" or "go back to the minors wimp". And A-Rod, who is always "Calm" could've ignored it and just taken his base.

I've seen the replay a few times, but can someone explain to me what happend with Ortiz? I coulsn't tell what he was doing. It was either trying to pull someone off Sturtz (I think), or was trying to get in some free shots. I'll go with the former since it seemed like 1 Red Sox player was pulling whoever off, and Ortiz was grabbing Sturtz.

Nothing compared to the ALCS Game 3 brawl, but still made the highlight reel of the news over 1,000 miles away.

Fluff piece: A-Rod was nowhere near the over-reacting of Manny. I Forgot who pitched the game, but the ball that "almost hit" Manny looked like a clean strike.

I meant it more of overreacting about nothing. He was hit with a breaking pitch at a whopping 87 mph. He glared at Arroyo for having the balls to *gasp* PITCH INSIDE?? AGAINST THE YANKEES?!!?

Varitek was playing peace maker!? Since when do peacemakers start fights? He's doing his job, than decides he wants to say more, A-rod has none of his shit so he calls him on it and a fight insues.

I didn't see Tek start the fight. I saw A-Rod rattle off three or four "FUCK YOU"'s and then they started.

Where did it start? With Varitek saying whatever he said that made A-rod get that mad. Whatever he said took A-rod from one level of anger to the next, so clearly it was something that could of been done with out.

I think it was something along the lines of:

*A-Rod staring at Arroyo*

Tek: Alright, that was an accident, take your base don't start any shit

A-Rod: FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU

Tek: Take your fucking base

*fight*

It was exactly like that. I can understand A-Rod is upset at getting hit, but really, what motivation did Arroyo have? Arroyo is in the top three in the league in hit batsmen, he throws inside, he threw a slider that didn't slide, it hit A-Rod. A-Rod acted big, Tek got in the middle (which is his job, btw, to protect his pitcher) A-Rod had a problem and cussed a blue streak, Tek had a problem and we have a donnybrook. That's exactly what happened.

That's all fine and well that he stares guys down, but Arroyo is high up the leaderboard in hit batsmen in the league, a slider slipped. Knowing Tek as I do, and have been told, he's an intense player. Maybe he said something, maybe he didn't. Fact is, he did his job by getting between Arroyo and A-Rod.

LOL. Tek isn't the guy that says shit like that. To even suggest that he did is stupid.

Sturtz grabbed Gabe Kapler...for whatever reason...by the throat. Papi came in and pulled Sturtz off of Gabe's throat.

I think people are missing what I meant with that. I meant overreacting in the same way that Manny did.

A-Rod was walking up the base. I'm pretty sure if Varitek stayed behind the batters box A-Rod would have made it to first. I mean its pretty uncharacteristic of A-Rod to start a fight for no good reason. He does stare down at pitchers a lot though. But if the bases were jammed and he hit A-Rod with a "curve ball that got away", than I'd have no doubts at all in my mind that it wasn't intentional. Arroyo just got scored on 3 times, 2 outs, no one on. There's some doubt in my mind that it wasn't intentional. Then again, who knows what Varitek said, because I think thats what got A-Rod riled up.

With this rivalry, we don't know what would have happened. A-Rod is an emotional player, and he may have tried something.

I don't think it was intentional on Arroyo's part. If it was, it would have been a fastball.

No argument that A-Rod over-reated now that I have some light on Arroyo. I don't follow the Red Sox much, so I'm not up to date with their players stats, except that Pedro Martinez is a head hunter and Nomar Garciaparra almost got voted into the all-star game for playing a week of the season.

Hopefully today though, they can play a clean, low-scoring game. I like a good bench clearing brawl and non-pitcher friendly game as the next guy, but a good pitchers duel is also entertaining.

However, considering it's Contreras vs. Lowe, I think it's going to be either a lop-sided 9-2 game, or another 8-9 run game for both teams.

"I meant it more of overreacting about nothing. He was hit with a breaking pitch at a whopping 87 mph. He glared at Arroyo for having the balls to *gasp* PITCH INSIDE?? AGAINST THE YANKEES?!!?"

HE HIT HIM WITH THE BALL. This wasn't 'oh you pitched inside I'm angry' he got hit with a pitch and didn't like it. That tends to happen 100% of the time.

"I didn't see Tek start the fight. I saw A-Rod rattle off three or four "FUCK YOU"'s and then they started. "

You must of caught the Boston replay, try watching what actually happened before you talk about it.

"I think it was something along the lines of:

Congradulations, you just shot past biased and right into completely fucking retarded.

I checked, and there's no JUST JOKING at the bottom of your post. Maybe you forgot it? A-rod didn't throw out any f-bombs until Tek said what he said, and if you think it was something nice and gentle, your a fucking retard.

Fact is his job was to make sure there was no incident, and he started one, take your head out of your ass, complete with boston cap and go watch the replay again before you talk about it.

"LOL. Tek isn't the guy that says shit like that. To even suggest that he did is stupid."

Yes he is, as you can tell with him saying something to start a fight.

Wow.

Try to use logic with a Yankee fan and see what happens, folks?

HE HIT HIM WITH THE BALL. This wasn't 'oh you pitched inside I'm angry' he got hit with a pitch and didn't like it. That tends to happen 100% of the time.

HE HIT HIM WITH AN OFFSPEED BREAKING PITCH THAT DIDN'T BREAK

You must of caught the Boston replay, try watching what actually happened before you talk about it.

For the record, I watched what happened in the game. AND I watched the national coverage featuring everything that happened.

Congradulations, you just shot past biased and right into completely fucking retarded.

Wow. Thanks. And thanks for refuting my point with...nothing!! Hooray!!

And more unprovoked flaming here. From what I saw...A-Rod gets hit. Tek gets between A-Rod and Arroyo. A-Rod rattles off at least three FUCK YOUS before something happens. Now, I'll give you that Tek has a mask on and we don't know what he said. But, again, knowing Tek like I do, and have heard about him, he's not a guy that's going to start swearing at A-Rod for no particular reason.

Fact is his job was to make sure there was no incident, and he started one, take your head out of your ass, complete with boston cap and go watch the replay again before you talk about it.

And flame #3. Again, I WATCHED THE GAME AND THE NATIONAL REPLAY. I LIVE IN FUCKING FLORIDA, SO THERE'S NO BOSTON REPLAY FOR ME. Fact is Tek got between A-Rod and Arroyo LIKE HE'S SUPPOSED TO.

Yes he is, as you can tell with him saying something to start a fight.

Watch how after these two great, back-and-forth, high-scoring games, with benches-clearing brawls and ejections, now that the game's nationally televised tonight there will be like 3 runs scored and nothing will happen.

Let's not have arguments like 4 year olds arguing over who has the prettiest crayon. I can assume most people here are adults, so lets act like it.

Yankee Fan: R. Sox Suck.

Sox Fans: Yanks Suck.

Yankee Fan: R.S. Fans Suck.

Sox Fan: Yank Fans Suck.

We get it, since it's a well documented history of two teams hating each other.

For those that care and are in the Greater Boston area: tune your radio to 88.9 FM WERS for Sports Sunday...we're doing a big part of the show on the Sox vs. Yankees rivalry.

Watching the replays again this morning...it still looks like all Varitek is doing is what he always does after someone gets plunked by one of his pitchers: gets between them, says take your base, and move on. A-Rod reacted differently than Sheffield did earlier in the year, and away we went.

Anyways.

"HE HIT HIM WITH AN OFFSPEED BREAKING PITCH THAT DIDN'T BREAK"

Wow look, you made a point. You needed some help, but you still got one. Hooray for you.

"For the record, I watched what happened in the game. AND I watched the national coverage featuring everything that happened."

I believe that, but it still doesn't count when your heads up your ass.

"Wow. Thanks. And thanks for refuting my point with...nothing!! Hooray!!"

Something that dumb speaks for itself.

"And more unprovoked flaming here. From what I saw...A-Rod gets hit. Tek gets between A-Rod and Arroyo. A-Rod rattles off at least three FUCK YOUS before something happens. From what you saw, apparently you saw something that didn't happen. A-rod WAS WALKING TO FIRST, Vtek came over between them, said something that made A-rod turn his attention from the pitcher to him, if your stupid enough to believe it was something simple like 'take your base', than yes, your a fucking retard, and I don't care what that has to do with fire. :)

I love the double standard, "I don't see why V-tek would just start cursing at him" but you do see why A-rod would? Hmmm.....

"And flame #3. Again, I WATCHED THE GAME AND THE NATIONAL REPLAY. I LIVE IN FUCKING FLORIDA, SO THERE'S NO BOSTON REPLAY FOR ME. Fact is Tek got between A-Rod and Arroyo LIKE HE'S SUPPOSED TO."

And then said something that started a fight, THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF WHAT HE'S SUPPOSED TO DO. If your that fucking blind you must be catching a special replay. Maybe they had an angle where the camera was smeared with vasoline.

"flame #4. For the third fucking time. I SAW BOTH THE GAME AND THE NATIONAL REPLAY. "

Don't say stupid shit and people won't call you stupid.
