Guest Anglesault Report post Posted July 26, 2004 It's not blind positivity. Believe it or not, both teams aren't that far apart in terms of quality, so it's only natural that neither one get the definite upperhand in the year-long series. Oh, I'm talking about how I have to say that the Yankees have no pitching woes whatsoever how dare I even think that they might, they're a first place team after all. And I've also been told that they hit bad pitching and pitchers having a bad years just a-ok fine. I mean I'll say it. They're the picture of pitching perfection and they rock shitty pitching. My lower lip is bleeding.

No, the point isn't that you complain about your team's weaknesses. The point is you pout and throw temper tantrums like an eight year old.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 What just happened is exactly why I can't ever understand why AS gets so bent out of shape about anything before the full nine innings have been played. Even if they don't come back, it shows that they've got the ability to come close or get the job done other times. Not many teams can say that.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted July 26, 2004 Even if they don't come back, it shows that they've got the ability to come close or get the job done other times. Not many teams can say that. Is that supposed to get me giddy? Because, believe it or not, it kind of does. I like knowing, somewhere, in the back of my mind, there's always, at the least, a shot. I like knowing that the opposing team knows that. I'd much rather not have to go through this four times a week. I'd like for my team to be as good in the first couple innings as they are in the last three or so. I'd like to not have to dig out of a hole (seemingly) every night. Because if the team becomes dependant on "getting it done" in the late innings, they're gonna burn themselves BADLY at some point.

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted July 26, 2004 See what I mean? You depend on an eighth inning rally every night, and things can go wrong that there's no time to fix.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted July 26, 2004 Well, A-Rod, Jorge and Hideki. If you have to depend on a ninth inning rally, I guess you can do worse.
Bored 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 This thread made me wonder when was the last time I actually watched a Yankee/Red Sox game and I honestly can't remember. I'm guessing probably the '99 ALCS I might have tuned into one game.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted July 26, 2004 Well, they got bitten in the ass tonight. They sent out a guy who time after time after time showed he can't pitch against Boston and expected him to pitch against Boston. They played that "pray for the 8th inning rally" game and it blew up in their faces. They just have to put this behind them and move on to Toronto and take the series. Guest Wildbomb 4:20 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 God I love this series. Ugly, ugly, ugly baseball by all counts, but the Sox taking two out of three is a good stepping stone. See if they can get rolling on the right track after three months of .500 ball. --Ryan

Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted July 27, 2004 Yankees star: 'You have to protect yourself' Alex Rodriguez made it clear yesterday that he blames one person for Saturday's bench-clearing brawl: Boston Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek. "The initiation was made by someone else, not me," Rodriguez said. With two outs and nobody on in the third inning on Saturday, Bronson Arroyo hit Rodriguez with a pitch above his left elbow. Rodriguez clearly was ticked off, flipping his bat toward the dugout in disgust and glaring at Arroyo as he slowly left the box. Rodriguez said he would have gone to first base without incident had it not been for Varitek taking it upon himself to walk alongside him. "My beef was never with Jason," the Yankees third baseman said. "My beef was with Arroyo and I was on my way to first." But A-Rod never got that far. Varitek and Rodriguez exchanged words, a confrontation which Rodriguez said the catcher initiated, and that eventually led to fisticuffs from both sides. "What was said from my half was simply a rebuttal and a reply," Rodriguez said. "What was said under the mask was a lot greater ... If somebody attacks you, you have to protect yourself. If somebody initiates, you have no choice but to defend yourself." Although a suspension for Varitek and Rodriguez could come as early as the middle of the week, A-Rod doesn't believe his actions justify it because he was acting in defense. Boston's Curt Schilling saw it differently, and said so on Sunday, telling reporters that it was Rodriguez's overreaction that started the altercation. Rodriguez declined to comment on Schilling's comments, but regarding Varitek he was definitely in a defensive mood. Asked if he thought the catcher was trying to rile up the Red Sox, A-Rod said, "I can't think about what he was trying to do for his team. But I know that if someone challenges you like that, I'm going to stand up to it." Rodriguez also will stand up to whatever suspension Bob Watson, baseball's top disciplinarian, lays down for him. He left no doubt that he will appeal. "Oh yeah," he said. "No doubt about it."
Guest Staravenger Report post Posted July 27, 2004 For pros these guys sure don't know how to let things go. I think everyone could've guess that "Player A" would blame "Player B" for whatever. In this case "A" was A-Rod and "B" was Varitek. Onto another topic. Is there any update on the Ortiz "suspension"?

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2004 Well good. Varitek started the fight anyway. To summarize: The Yankees, and their fans, think it's Boston & Varitek that are to blame. The Red Sox, and their fans, think that it's New York & ARod that are to blame. Repeatedly harping on that fact is just beating a dead horse.

What, did Varitek use six "fuck you"s According to the home plate umpire, yes. AS, I think you inadvertently left off part of the post that you quoted ... how many times did Varitek say "come on", which is more likely to trigger a fight than just saying "fuck you"? I understand your point, that Varitek wasn't without fault, but to blatantly ignore part of a post to prove your point isn't right.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted July 29, 2004 Well, the suspensions were handed out. Varitek and A-Rod got four. I figured Varitek would get more because he made first contact, but whatever. Sturtze, Kapler and Nixon got three. I'm hearing conflicting reports on ortiz, either fined (bullshit) or three games Schilling, Lofton fined. I'm still not sure what Lofton did.
