NoCalMike Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 I thought I read a few months ago that a second season for HBO was taped and ready, but I haven't heard anything since. Maybe it is coming back when Bill Mahr's show comes back in July, since that is what it originally debuted after.....anyone know?
Nighthawk Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 Yes, it is coming back, I saw them running promos. I forgot the exact date but I'm pretty sure it's in July, after Bill Maher sound fair. The first season is on hbo on demand now as well.
Vanhalen Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Get some of his original Channel 4 stuff, when he first came out, that shit is fucking amazing, the american series wasnt as good as the original work, plus the dvd's are only £6.99! http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...7047770-5002201 http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...7047770-5002201

However, Curb Your Enthusiasm can take up my time.
Nighthawk Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 You must be in some sort of spacetime vortex. I'm looking at it right now. By the way, does he still do anything in his home country? I'd imagine the recognition would have killed him by now. I would hope that's why there was such a long wait between seasons here. I have seen his original stuff also, it didn't seem all that much better, except that he repeated several bits in the American version. I like them equally well. Those really are good prices for those dvds though, I'll probably get them anyway.

It was massive overkill here in terms of exposure and got way to big for its own good. There was a time when everyone was walking around doing Ali G impressions from 5 year old kids to middle aged daytime television presenters. I'm surprised there is a new US series as I'm sure I read somewhere Baron Cohen said was going to stop doing the Ali G stuff. Money changed his mind I guess . I think his first Uk stuff was the best althougth I'm sure alot of the best humour might be lost due to people in America not knowing who some of the people he interviewed are.
Vanhalen Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Can I just say tho, when he visited the UN, and wrote a letter to Kofi annan saying, "dear sir, i think saddam is a nob and u should take care of him", and the tour guides expression when he read the note was one of the funniest fucking things I've ever seen.
Vanhalen Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Oh and once he did the feature film http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...3832926-9172654 That was pretty much the natural end of the character.
Guest MissMattitude Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Am I the only person who HATED Ali G, he was not funny.

C Dubya 04 Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 I had seen most of the HBO episodes, and loved them. Last night I marked out hard when I saw that the shows were on OnDemand. I instantly made my girl watch half of them. She didn't complain.
Nighthawk Posted July 2, 2004 Report Posted July 2, 2004 Am I the only person who HATED Ali G, he was not funny. You're not, he's a love him or hate him kinda guy. It's about 60/40 favoring hate in my experience. At least here in America.
