Fantasy Cast: Ghostbusters

Recommended Posts

Guest SP-1

Now, I'm not advocating a remake. The original is just fine and a remake wouldn't be able to surpass it, only measure up to it.

But, in DODGEBALL, Vince Vaughan reminded me of the character Peter Venkman, who Bill Murray plays in the Ghostbusters films. And it got me to thinking that if a remake were to happen, I'd trust Vaughan to take over for Murray in that particular role. I think he could do it well.

A friend and I were talking about it and he suggested the Wilsons, Luke and Owen. Maybe have Ben Stiller appear. So after thinking about it, here's my fantasy cast (for now, I might change some roles).

Peter Venkman: Vince Vaughan

Ray Stantz: Owen Wilson

Egon Spengler: (I don't have a clue here)

Winston: Wayne Brady?

Louis Tulley: Ben Stiller. This could be awesome.

Dana Barrett: This is tough. Someone charming and cute but in the age range of these actors. I'm at a bit of a loss here.

Walter Peck (The EPA Guy): Dylan McDermott. Or the guy who played Agent Smith. I can't remember his name at the moment.

Jeanine: I dunno. Someone in whomever plays Egon's age range.

Brainstorm, guys. Just have some fun with it. I thought it'd be interesting to see what others' choices might be.

Why Ben Stiller? I couldn't see him fitting the role of Louis what so ever.

Ok. These may not be entirely appropriate, but would results in a movie I would thoroughly enjoy, for the wrong reasons if nothing else. I can't think of anybody for the chicks either.

Peter: Chris Elliott

Ray: Bob Odenkirk

Egon: Crispin Glover

Winston: Chris Tucker

Louis: Andy Dick

Peck: R. Lee Ermey

Also James Gandolfini as the mayor.

Actually, I think Bob Odenkirk and Crispin Glover would do good in those roles, but that's because Odenkirk is practically a comedic genius (Mr. Show ruled), and Glover can handle his own in ANY role.

I'm with kkk on this one, as GB is my favorite movie of all-time, so I'd never want to see a remake. But, as the thread goes...

Venkman: Vince Vaughn

Spengler: Liev Schreiber

Stantz: Patton Oswalt (I think that's his name; I know he's a stand-up comic and appears on some sitcom regularly)

Zeddemore: Michael Jai White

Janine: Janeane Garofalo

Dana: Jennifer Aniston (sexy, good actress, started off in horror movies...just like Sigourney)

Louis: That kid from Rushmore...I always forget his name

Peck: Michael Wincott

Oh, I'm not advocating a remake at all. I grew up on GB and I think it's probably one of the most original, funniest, and well done movies of all time. And you're right, kkk, the original cast needs no tweaking. But, the question was posed between and friend and myself and I wondered what some others would think.

IDRM, that IS a tremendous cast purely for the results.

Scroby, I went with Stiller because, while he's not necessarily like Moranis, I'd just like to see his take on it. The twitchy, underconfident nerdy guy trying to be overconfident and seem "cool".

Corey, I liked that cast. Anniston as Dana intereacting with Vaughan as Venkman could be pretty funn stuff. Likewise, Garofalo exchanging insults with Vaughan could be awesome as well. Schrieber is a good choice, but I also like Crispin Glover. Michael Jai White as Winston would be a pretty good choice as well.

Bauer, your post made me realize the KEIFER might make a great Walter Peck.
