Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted July 12, 2004 Parka almost won with the last pick, but I won with the 1st pick. All we know for sure is being in the middle blows. (See: My NL Baseball team) And last year's draft was hilarious. I got Marc Bulger in the last freaking round. I also like Raza's suggestions, but those are all minor things. I like the 10 yard passing point because it prevents scrub running QB's like Quincy Carter from being any good.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2004 (edited) I also like Raza's suggestions, but those are all minor things. I like the 10 yard passing point because it prevents scrub running QB's like Quincy Carter from being any good. I don't. I did it with Brett Favre making a point for every 30 yards he collected passing: gets 219 points (I'm including all other stats in here as well). Where as Favre currently gets 243. Holt getting a point for every 30 yards he collected: 114 pts (I'm including all stats in here as well). Where as Holt currently gets 241. These two are currently are even pace, however, if we go with Raza's system, the QBs DOMINATE. With the current system in place: After the first 10 running backs, they are on par with everyone else. After the first 5 QBs they are on par with everyone else. After the first 5 WRs they are on par with everyone else. So we'll be keeping the system as is. HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2004 I also did it and let's put it this way, the highest scoring WR from last year would've been Moss around 158 points IIRC. When the QB's would be doubling that point total that's just too much of a dominance.

Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2004 (edited) I'm so sorry people, but while talking with HarleyQuinn about the upcoming draft and the stats and shit, I realized I made a huge error. This is for QBs, RBs, and WRs: Sacks are only supposed to be -1 and not a -2 like it currently is. Fumbles are supposed to be a -2 and not a -1. I got the two mixed up! I'm so sorry! I didn't even realize it till HarleyQuinn pointed out how that was a little odd that sacks were more costly than fumbles. Again, I'm terribly sorry for any anguish I cause for your drafting results. razazteca 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2004 The public league: QB yardage at 50 yards per point RB yardage at 20 yards per point WR yardage at 20 yards per point and no Return Specialist yardage What I meant was to have the WR & RB yardage the same and have the Return yardage at a weaker ratio. With the way league is set it is possible for someone like Rod "He Hate Me" Smart to get 5 points just off of return yardage. I think the QB to WR/RB ratio should be around 2-to-1 ratio with maybe the Return yards maybe at a 3-to-1 ratio. QB 25 RB/WR 10 Return 30 Yards per point. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2004 You are wrong that he'll get 5 points off of return yards. 947 yards divide by 20 yards to a point = 47.35 points. Now divide that by 17 weeks = 2.79 point average per week via return yardage. Let's compare that with say a WR that's got roughly the same stats via yardage. Chris Chambers with 967 yards divide by 10 yards to a point = 96.7 points. Now divide that by 17 weeks = 5.69 points. An RB with the roughly same stats via yardage. R. Johnson with 957 yards divided by 10 yards per point = 95.7 points. Divided by 17 Weeks = 5.63 points. I'll take Bledsoe as he currently has the lowest ranking points among QBs while being above 2000 Passing yards. 2860 yards divided by 25 yards per point = 114.4 points. Divided by 17 Weeks = 6.72 points. In the cases above, Smart falls double behind in points getting compared to the rest. In the case of Bledsoe, he's almost triple. Now then, the average return yardage by the top 50 returners is 757.54 yards. That's an average of 37.89 points a season and total of 2.23 a week. Compare to the top 50 Receiving Yards. Average = 916.58 yards. Average/Season = 91.67 points. Average/17Weeks = 5.39 points per week. Compare to the top 50 Running Yards. Average = 840.06 yards. Average/Season = 84.00 points. Average/17Weeks = 4.94 points per week. Compare to the top 30 Passing Yards (only way to fairly compare because only 30 QBs can legitmately start). Average = 2839.43 yards. Average/Season = 113.58 points. Average/17Weeks = 6.68 points per week. Now then, going by this, we see that returners are only making a third of what the other categories make, just by straight up yardage points. Which is where your concern lies. They simply don't make that much unless they are Dante Hall. And I checked to see who gets 5 points and only Dante breaks the 5 point mark. Only 3 players break 4 points. Hell, only 12 players make over 3 points. Sorry Raza. Request for point system change is denied on your basis of returners getting a decent share of points. They simply don't in comparison to the rest of the categories that matter.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2004 Free Keeper League? I created a test league, just to see how customizable it is. There is a tremendous amount of categories in terms of scoring. Anyone want to start up a league here? Or do people prefer the yahoo league we used last year? You can set the points for everything below, it's pretty impressive. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2004 The draft is set for Aug 20, at 6 pm EST. I'd just like to say that this time doesn't work for me as I'll won't be home till 8pm EST. However, if I'm the only person who has this problem, please do not reschedule the draft just for my sake. I'll just figure out some way to get around it (although, I really hate pre-ranking, oh well).
razazteca 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Absolutely. Once the commissioner of your league has set the draft date and the draft order, anyone in your league can click the Draft link on the left, then enter the "Online Draft Room". In here, you can create your "Wish List" of pre-ranked players. If you 1) do not make the draft, or 2) Fail to make some of your picks in time during your draft, the system will auto-draft from this list. According to the guys from the forums over there this is what you do.
LaParkaMarka 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Found a cool place for mock drafts. If anyone is interested, there's a 16 team mock draft here. 7 more teams are needed, and it's all offline. Could be good prep for the Yahoo draft this week. I'll change the time for my draft to 8 pm EST, for Flik. We have enough time to reschedule, it's more than a month away. And if anyone else wants to sign up for that league, feel free.

Guest Soylent Green Is People Report post Posted July 18, 2004 I look forward to repeating my uncanny knack for drafting players who end up being giant busts. Last year in my league i drafted Plaxico Burress, Kurt Warner, Kerry Collins and i think Amos Zereoue in rounds 2-5, an all-star team of ineptness if there ever was one, and they were only the tip of the iceberg. This year i doubt i'll be able to get players like Santana Moss and Marc Bulger in the 15th and 16th rounds to make up for it, and drafting 10th i won't have a Clinton Portis to carry me either, whoever i end up picking in the first round i know i'll regret instantly. *awaits being the worst team by far*

Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2004 Here are Gibbs Disciples.. Starting lineup (as of right now) QB Michael Vick RB Stephen Davis RB Charlie Garner WR Donte Stallworth WR Peter Warrick TE Kellen Winslow Jr WR/TE Marcus Robinson K John Hall Defense Denver Bench TE Ben Troupe QB Mark Brunell RB DeShaun Foster RB Marcel Shipp I am OK with what I have here now. I obviously have some questions about my team that may not get answered until these guys actually play, but I've looked at every team in our league and every team has a concern or two somewhere on their roster. Mine are... -Can and will Michael Vick stay healthy to duplicate or improve his '02-03 season numbers? -how long can both of my starting running backs last because Davis turns 30 and Garner is already 32? (part of why I got DeShaun Foster) -will my WR's try to reach their potential? -will Kellen Winslow join the few elite TE's or will he just be a bunch of hype? The best I can do now is pray none of my guys gets seriously injured between now and the start of the season.

Quite a few questions that I hope get answered through training camp and pre-season.

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2004 QB - Peyton Manning RB - Brian Westbrook, Curtis Martin WR - Steve Smith, Koren Robinson (just accepted a trade to get him) TE - LJ Smith WR/TE - Donald Driver/Kevin Johnson (not sure who I will use there now) K - Josh Brown Def - Baltimore Bench Quincy Carter Dominic Rhodes Antwaan Randle El Driver/Johnson At first I was worried about my RBs, but as I look at everyone else's team there are only about 2 teams that don't have some question mark at one of the two RB slots. And the trade for Robinson gives me a second legit WR, so now I am just relying on Driver or Johnson coming through as opposed to Driver AND Johnson.
