Gibbs is all about running the ball to set up the playaction pass. That is his bread and butter and it is what brought 3 Superbowl Trophies to DC. Portis will be a pick well worth it, and seeing as I am sitting at #4, There is a very good chance I will get to pick Portis. I don't know. The Washington line was terrible last season and they've done nothing to improve it. How's Portis supposed to do anything when guys are already on him by the time he has the ball. I mean Ramsey got absolutely killed last year due to this line.

Obviously you didn't know Joe Bugel is now the Offensive line coach, who took a bunch of average players in the 80's and made them the Hogs, which was arguably the most dominating offensive line ever. I would say that is an improvement. Also, how do you keep your offensive line from sucking under Steve Spurrier when the Defense just sends 8 guys on a blitz every play cause they are anticipating the pass? Different coaches will make a huge difference.
HarleyQuinn Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 Trung Canidate still had 4.2 YPC last year(not great but not awful either) and considering the upgrade Portis is, I wouldn't be surprised to see him do a 4.6-4.8 YPC for the season.

McNabb is a playmaker, but he is not one of the more accurate passers, but he is forgiven because of his explosive rushing ability, but when you break down his passing alone, he is not elite. I am just waiting for McNabb to one-hop a ball to a wide open Terrell Owens and watch that relationship melt away on the sidelines.

Care to break down the "Denver System" for me? Seems to me they have a system where the offensive line opens holes and running lanes for Portis, that isn't much different from most "systems" so it comes down to Coaches and players, which Washington has. Also, keep in mind Portis did this with Jake Plummer(lol) behind center.

Denver always has a RB putting up big numbers so I tend to think the system produces a favorable situation for any running back with halfway decent speed. Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I don't think Portis is a product of Denver's line, but I do know that he struggled with injuries last year, and will have a much bigger workload this year. He's tiny for a halfback, honestly. that said, I think he's a good pick at 4.

The Washington Redskins have one of the top O-lines in the league. And Joe Gibbs has proven that he can orchestrate a top-notch running game. Clinton Portis suffers little in his move from Denver to Washington. I'm making him my No. 3 choice. That being said, Shaun Alexander, Ahman Green, Deuce McAllister, Jamal Lewis, Ricky Williams and Edgerrin James are the running backs in the rearview mirror that are even closer than they appear With a strong supporting cast that will only get better, meaning that Darrell Jackson and 2003 sleeper Koren Robinson will get over the dropsies, Shaun Alexander is primed for a monster year. Last year, Alexander flew under the radar with all the love poured upon Matt Hasselbeck. You have to go a step deeper to evaluate Alexander's fantasy value in 2003. He was held without a TD in only four games, meaning that his TD total was not a product of a single huge game. Portis could've had Tomlinson/Holmes numbers if he would've played all 16 games. There is a natural hesitation about Portis because he is going into a new system, but he should still be an effective back, a definite top 6'er.

They take averge players and make then probowlers and take great players and make then HOF'ers.

EDIT: Even Marchel Shipp even though he'll have to wait to play and Green's probably going to be passing every play.
