Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 I was watching some old RAW tapes from 1996, and notice how over Ahmed Johnson really was back when he started. Too bad injurys ruined his career, he looked like he was the guy HBK was going to pass the torch to. Back when he 1st came out, he was a good worker. He use to bust some luchadore moves, and the crowd loved his energy. But he got fat, lazy, injured prone, and didnt give a fuck.

Papacita 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 Ahmed was like my second favorite wrestler back in the day, but he was the most injury-prone man I've ever seen. That man would injure himself blinking. He was really over up until they had him join the Nation in 97. Once they kicked him out, he was never the same.
deancoles 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 To me it seemed as though the plan was for Ahmed vs. Michaels at Survivor Series 96 as that was supposed to be the "money" match in the Summer of 96.

Didn't he mess himself up on a car window or something? (I didn't watch WCW at that time, so I'm not sure).
Guest Staravenger Report post Posted July 7, 2004 Goldberg, genius at large, did the same thing at SSlam 2003 when he kicked in the "bullet proof" glass chamber...causing a couple of deep wounds in his legs. Fucking idiot...
Guest Arnold_OldSchool Report post Posted July 7, 2004 (edited) Ahmed vs Shawn was supposed to be the Mian Event of a Special Thurs. Raw Thursday, after Ahmed won a Battle Royal on Raw. Ahmed injurd his kidneys earlier that night, so he went out of action and Savio, GoldDust, and 2 other people had a 4 way battle royal to determine a #1 contender The Thurs show ended up being Shawn vs Gold Dust Mankind vs The Pug Alex Porteau and I think a Marc Mero match? ----------- In a 'Sudden Death Battle Royal', the winner of which would earn a world title shot during Raw Championship Friday, Goldust defeated Psycho Sid, Steve Austin, and Savio Vega by last eliminating Savio Edited July 7, 2004 by Arnold_OldSchool

Guest news_gimmick Report post Posted July 7, 2004 I was definately a mark for Ahmed in late 95 / early 96. They did all the right things with his initial push, especially slamming Yokozuna on a Raw that year, when he was at his heaviest. While I don't think he was ever a good worker, his intensity in the ring was very appealing. Although that intensity was rough with the other wrestlers, I feel it worked. Seeing him in WCW 2000 made me sad, as he really had a bright future back in 1996.
deancoles 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2004 The man couldn't speak english, though. He had enough in ring Charisma to make up for that, Did Ahmed ever have a shirt? I can't recall him having one.
Guest Arnold_OldSchool Report post Posted July 7, 2004 Yeah he did, I remember one where the shirt was black, with a pic of a folded arms Ahmed on it
Guest Arnold_OldSchool Report post Posted July 7, 2004 Ahmed fun facts: Started in the Texas Indies as Moadib (sp?) Proudly proclaimed he was in a gang in LA or some such while in the WWF Won the USWA title after Bodyslamming Jerry Lawler (or was it Jarrett?) 10 times Was abused as a child, according to one story he told, His dad (a drunk) left the kids at home for hours, and Ahmed took some hot dogs out of the freezer to feed his siblings with, when his dad came home and caught Ahmed making the weiners in boiling water, he attacked him, tipped Ahmed's bed frame down over Ahmed's arms and poured the scalding water over Ahmed's bare chest. Then Ahmed got no medical attention and had to deal with the charred flesh himself.

Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2004 Why exactly did WCW sign him and stick him as the fairly generic Big T anyway? He seemed like a semi-name during his Ahmed Johnson days. I figured they probably should have tried to play off that and see if he could somehow ressurrect his career.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2004 Why exactly did WCW sign him and stick him as the fairly generic Big T anyway? He seemed like a semi-name during his Ahmed Johnson days. I figured they probably should have tried to play off that and see if he could somehow ressurrect his career. wasn't his real name Tony Norris or something like that? Perhaps that's why they called him Big T and I'm quite certain Ahmed Johnson was a WWE licensed name anyway... Sorry for bringing up the "racial" thing, but as a black wrestling fan, I had high hopes for this man when he came onto the scene in 95 and kicked BUTT through the first half of 96...when he returned to WCW in 2000 I was happy, but then I saw what he became and wrote him off for good...his intensity definantly made up for his ring work and mic skills (Ultimate Warrior pre-1992, anyone?), but being injury-prone and also causing injuries to others brought him down...being out of the spotlight too many times because of the injuries killed his crowd love... Guest Bad Brad Jacobs Report post Posted July 7, 2004 Back in like 95 before I knew anything about wrestling that i do now, I thought the pearl river plunge was insane. EdwardKnoxII 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2004 According to his book (300 pages of my life I'll never get back) he didn't want to smash the window with a sledgehammer like he was supposed to because even his girlfriend could do it that way so he used his fists and nearly slit his own wrist on the glass. Apparently if he had cut himself something like 3 mm to the side he would have died or ended his career. I can't remember. Then after like 10 months of rehab he came back as a heel and aligned himself with Russo causing the crowd to totally shit all over him. I remember reading a report that Russo was suppose to have the limo have fake brake away glass but, Russo decide to keep the real glass to make the breaking look real for whatever reason. Russo didn't tell Goldberg which is why GB punched out the windows. But, don't quote me on that.

Well actually he was just suppose to punch out the side windows which were fake, then he went ahead and punched the windshield which was real and fucked himself up. Goldberg wasn't the smartest man. Besides being injury prone Ahmed was also supposedly a drug user. I can't recall if it was crack or pot but I remember reading whatever he was doing was smoked. The kidneys injury did him in the most though.
