Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 I was watching some old RAW tapes from 1996, and notice how over Ahmed Johnson really was back when he started. Too bad injurys ruined his career, he looked like he was the guy HBK was going to pass the torch to. Back when he 1st came out, he was a good worker. Guest news_gimmick Report post Posted July 7, 2004 I was definately a mark for Ahmed in late 95 / early 96. They did all the right things with his initial push, especially slamming Yokozuna on a Raw that year, when he was at his heaviest. While I don't think he was ever a good worker, his intensity in the ring was very appealing. Although that intensity was rough with the other wrestlers, I feel it worked. Proudly proclaimed he was in a gang in LA or some such while in the WWF Won the USWA title after Bodyslamming Jerry Lawler (or was it Jarrett?) 10 times Was abused as a child, according to one story he told, His dad (a drunk) left the kids at home for hours, and Ahmed took some hot dogs out of the freezer to feed his siblings with, when his dad came home and caught Ahmed making the weiners in boiling water, he attacked him, tipped Ahmed's bed frame down over Ahmed's arms and poured the scalding water over Ahmed's bare chest. Perhaps that's why they called him Big T and I'm quite certain Ahmed Johnson was a WWE licensed name anyway... Sorry for bringing up the "racial" thing, but as a black wrestling fan, I had high hopes for this man when he came onto the scene in 95 and kicked BUTT through the first half of 96...when he returned to WCW in 2000 I was happy, but then I saw what he became and wrote him off for good...his intensity definantly made up for his ring work and mic skills (Ultimate Warrior pre-1992, anyone?), but being injury-prone and also causing injuries to others brought him down...being out of the spotlight too many times because of the injuries killed his crowd love... Apparently if he had cut himself something like 3 mm to the side he would have died or ended his career. I can't remember. Then after like 10 months of rehab he came back as a heel and aligned himself with Russo causing the crowd to totally shit all over him. I remember reading a report that Russo was suppose to have the limo have fake brake away glass but, Russo decide to keep the real glass to make the breaking look real for whatever reason. Well actually he was just suppose to punch out the side windows which were fake, then he went ahead and punched the windshield which was real and fucked himself up. Goldberg wasn't the smartest man. Besides being injury prone Ahmed was also supposedly a drug user. I can't recall if it was crack or pot but I remember reading whatever he was doing was smoked.
