Bradshaw's Newest Column...

Recommended Posts

Disclaimer: These views are those of John Bradshaw Layfield, and not necessarily those of World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc.

I believe I am going to change my article’s name to “The Champ’s Report.” I know a lot of you are very, very happy for me. I hate to say “I told you so” but … well you know the rest.

I am so proud that we have a champion that represents Americans so well. After all, I am what most of you would love to be, the epitome of the American dream. So thank you all for your kind words and support.

I do have to say that I was pleased with the Texas Bull Rope Match. I delivered again, as I always do. However, after two horribly black eyes and many stitches, I am not sure I am looking forward to the Cage Match in just over a week. I am sure, though, that once again, I will deliver. Isn’t it great to have a guy who you know will always deliver when he says he will?

I got to see my pal Hermie Sadler, the NASCAR driver, last week, but he left before we could indulge in a few adult beverages. He has a version of a story when I supposedly wrecked one of his vehicles on a bear hunting trip in North Carolina. This was an alleged event.

I will put up a link for my radio show this week. I really enjoy doing radio. You never know what will happen. This past week I had a guest, Greg Palast, that had written an article entitled, “Conman, Killer, Coward, Good Riddance, Gipper” the day after Ronald Reagan died.

The first question I asked him was if he thought this timing was appropriate; no matter what he thought about Reagan, I thought this showed absolutely no class. He wouldn’t answer; he went into a diatribe about how Reagan had killed nuns and priests and had urinated on a priest’s grave. I am not making this up.

He then went on to the Iranian hostages and how Reagan was such a coward in dealing with Ayatollah Khomeini. When I corrected him with a couple of facts, he hung up. That’s right, he hung up. We called him back and got his answering machine; we have yet to be able to reach him.

So Mr. Palast, if you ever decide you have a backbone, please come back on my show and finish the interview, because the way you left it, it really makes you look like a coward who, when confronted with facts, ran and hid.

Talk about the feminization of America. This is what is wrong with some of our media, they hide behind a typewriter and write whatever without being accurate, yet when called on the carpet, because they are wrong, they run and hide. Wait a minute sounds like some of our Internet “reporters.” No wait, those guys aren’t important enough to be on a talk show.

OK, now you guys are mad at me again because I told the truth. Please remember, I’m not talking about our average fan, just you few guys who think you are “reporters” but never have any facts.

How about people who are worried about whether we’re treating Saddam Hussein fairly, yet don’t worry about our guys being beheaded? When was he treated badly? After his physical or his last warm meal? Give me a break. Please quit the partisan crap and do whatever we have to do to make sure our troops have everything they need.

I saw where Michael Moore said in England that Americans had to be the dumbest people on the planet. Also, in his last book (page 67 and 68) he said that the reason we dislike France is because they are smarter than us, better read and more sophisticated.

So for those of you who believe in Michael Moron, ask yourself if you are indeed as dumb as he says you are. This guy hates America, and he is calling all of America stupid. This is a direct quote. I don’t mind a liberal voice -- I believe in free speech -- but I prefer a voice that still believes in the country that they live in. If you hate it here, then just get out. But don’t make money off of America and then tell people how you hate the very same country. What a piece of garbage.

For those of you from different countries who wonder if I like America better than your country, the answer is yes. If I didn’t like it better, I wouldn’t live here. I hope you feel the same about your country; if you don’t, then you are doing your country an injustice by staying. I have no problem saying I am biased to where I live; I think everyone should be biased to their home.

This doesn’t mean there aren’t other great places; this is just where I prefer to live.

I truly believe that George W. Bush could be running against the devil right now and the poll numbers would be the same. There is just a polarizing effect with our president. John Kerry is not the answer, but people – or at least the Democrats out there -- don’t care.

First it was the economy; now the economy is roaring so they say it is Iraq. Now Bush has done everything the international community wanted.

He handed sovereignty to the Iraqis, he encouraged NATO and the inept U.N. to get involved. So what can you complain about now? He has answered every argument with solutions.

The U.N. is an inept group. We tried to get them to back up their own resolution, and they wouldn’t do it. We had no choice but to go with those that were willing to defend freedom.

Also, remember that we had intelligence from Russia that Iraq was planning to attack us. You say they hadn’t attacked us yet, OK, after Pearl Harbor why did we attack Germany? North Vietnam never attacked us, yet John F. Kennedy sent our forces in. Korea never attacked, us yet we attacked them. Bosnia never attacked us, yet Bill Clinton attacked them.

Bush has done everything the world community has wanted recently. So the question would be, what do you fault him for now?

The U.N. never wanted to help, yet it passed the resolution against Iraq. I truly believe that President Jacques Chirac (of France) just hates Bush and will do whatever he can to undermine our effort. The problem with Chirac is that his approval rating at home is awful, and he will have a hard time keeping his job. Also, France has a huge Muslim population; this is another example of a politician governing based on polls and not what is best for his country.

Kerry and Bush at home are trying very hard to get the religious vote, especially the Catholic vote; there are 65 million Catholics in the U.S. Bush has been to visit the Pope three times. Kerry has been threatened with refusal of communion for his pro-choice views. So the line between church and state is blurred even further. The Catholic church is getting involved in politics, and the politicians are involving the church. I understand being religious -- over 70 percent of voters say religion is important -- but I believe that they are using religion for political motives.

To all our troops out there, we celebrated July 4th because you guys have kept us free. Come home safe because you guys deserve to celebrate your own freedom.

U know I have no problem with what he is saying...but shouldn't he make some WRESTLING related content...as seeing it's a WWE.COM article.

Just use your own website to give your opinion...Why don't they ask Sean Morely for his opinion? He's equally if not MORE outspoken, Politically then Bradshaw is.

It's sad Bradshaw gets the WWE Title simply because he shares the same Political Thought of Vince McMahon and had no problem causing constroversey.

I wonder how Ultra Republican McMahon handles Bradshaw during the election, you know vince is deluded enough to think Bradshaw is charismatic enough to effect the presidential campaign, i doubt he would want his HUGE Latino fanbase to vote for Kerry simply because the Latino Guerrero hating bush supporter mocks them.

Maybe RVD should look into the republican Party...wouldn't hurt to get on vince's side (waits for the "But he's a part of the Green Party" joke)

You would think that with all of WWE's involvement in registering voters and such that they would try to stay away from such one sided political commentary on their website.

What does Bradshaw know about wrestling though?

I love anti-Moore columnists. "MICHAEL MOORE IS EVIL AND 100% WRONG AND HATES AMERICA AND HE SHOULD SHUT UP AND BE RIPPED APART BY MARINES WEILDING CHAINSAWS AND SHIPPED TO CHINA IF HE DOESN'T LIKE IT HERE....but it's a free country and grumble grumble *sob."

Criticizing Michael Moore, apparently, ISN'T covered by that pesky 1st Amendment.

The problem with "if you don't like it, then leave" argument is that it implies that people have to accept the system completely as it is, or take a hike. Which leaves no room for free speech, which I thought was a right. Or the right to vote to change a thing or two, which I also thought was a right in this country. That sort of thing. It has about as much intellectual value as "neener, neener, neener." It's weak.

And I didn't expect Bradshaw to talk about wrestling. Not when he had a perfect chance to laugh at us smarks for being awarded the title. Besides, why should he talk about wrestling? It's not as though anyone was actually watching enough to care about the guy.

Absolutely it is. I was merely pointing out the astonishing rage some people have towards Moore, and then they follow it up with a very civilized (and I suspect, somewhat bitter) "But in this country they have a right to their opinion." In my opinion, if they think Moore is a name-calling child, the best course of action is too argue his points, not to sink just as low or lower.

I agree. That's really when I started to tune out of Bradshaw's column.

The argument becomes even more idiotic when you realize it can be applied to ANY criticism, both liberal or conservative or anything else. For example, if a Republican complained that social assistance is too easily exploited by lazy, drug-addicted layabouts, couldn't you also say "If you don't like it, leave"?

the reason people use the old tried and true "if you don't like it, get out" arguement, in lieu of anything thought-provoking or even original, is simple: it's easy. they're basically saying "my view is right, yours is wrong, if you can't except that, leave, nyah nyah nyah". it takes alot less time and effort then actually coming up with a reasonable arguement for your stance when all you need to do is invalidate the person who questioned you.

If he's supposed to be the "American Dream" then its times like this I'm happy to be British.

Not that we don't have arseholes on TV like that over here but still.

I don't think Bradshaw's popularity has anything to do with Vince being a Republican. I doubt he'd be that superficial since Vince is trying to start a "rock the vote" style campaign thing with that smackdown your vote stuff.

Yeah, Envelope-Pushing Bradshaw has some flaws (first of all, even if he's making statements so extreme that they'd make Pat Buchanan blush , there's some rightie off in some backwater hick town nodding his head and agreeing with it) but the primary one is that it was pushed too soon. That's it. He would have done alright on US champ level. Not world champ, not this early.

And for those who continue to say that Vince likes Bradshaw because they're both big Republicans, remember that the JBL character is the first time in a long time that they've had a heel holding a right-wing viewpoint for crowds to boo at. Vince has obviously noticed the unwavering opposition to Bush in polls and the JBL character is meant to exploit that. They've been mocking left-wing ideology and those that hold it for a long time. This is probably the first time they've actually gone looking for it.

Still, I don't like these flag-saluting patriotism angles one bit, and hope they go back into the 80s time machine soon.

Would it really hurt WWE to have an article from someone politically opposite from Bradshaw?

Of course, we may just get someone with only slightly different viewpoints from Bradshaw.

Better yet, let Bradshaw and Scott Steiner have a debate in the middle of the ring.

Well, at least you're speaking as elloquent as Bradshaw.

I don't hate Republicans. While I disaggree with them they're entitled to their opinion. And, after watching many attempts, I find it hard to believe that you can sway many Republicans or Democrats from their beliefs. But that's a whole other discussion.

I find it funny that Bradshaw is using his column to get heat from the IWC. As if he knows he can't get a reaction any other way. I think Bradshaw knows he doesn't deserve the title, but is gonna try to prove it to Vince any way he can. Speaking of Vince, shouldn't he be a Democrat, seeing as how many hardline Republicans would find his show morally offensive and perverse?

And everytime someone uses the "if you don't like it, leave" line, it reminds me of that South Park episode where Cartman goes back in time...

"If you don't like it here, then you can GIIIIIIITTTTOUTAH!"

Democrats seem to be, in general, more pro-censorship. Although there are also quite a few "bi-partisan" organizations.

Also, Vince is naturally vehemently opposed to unions. WWE wrestlers aren't employees, they're "independent contractors."

You're thinking of "Tipper Gore" Democrats.

Anyway, Republicans do have the "Religious Right" on their side, so I'd say they're more pro-censorship than the Democrats. Then again, you could argue that both parties just like censoring different things.

Vince being a Republican is probably because of the enviroment he grew up in (the 80's). Remember, Vince has always liked charismatic individuals who were very successful (such as Ronald Reagan). I do have my suspicions that Vince Sr. was a Democrat, though.

I've said this on CE. Once you get into the extreme element, both sides look the same.

That just about made me snort Pepsi. Vince is older than my Dad, and nowhere near my age.

I didn't mean it in a sense of a child growing up. I believe the 80's greatly changed who Vince was.

He's as cool as Toby Keith is; in other words, "not cool in the least."

Come to think of it, there's many other comparisons between those two. Toby Keith has even been involved in pro wrestling...

I believe I am going to change my article’s name to “The Champ’s Report.” I know a lot of you are very, very happy for me. I hate to say “I told you so” but … well you know the rest.

And I'll have Voice rename The Rush to the "Unfunny Teenage Wrestling Fan Report On TNA." And if you hate to say it, why did you?

I'm sure you said it politely, right? Because you've never been less than perfectly well-mannered, correct?

So Mr. Palast, if you ever decide you have a backbone, please come back on my show and finish the interview, because the way you left it, it really makes you look like a coward who, when confronted with facts, ran and hid.

I don't think he'll be reading this, or has any idea that this has been written.

Talk about the feminization of America.  This is what is wrong with some of our media, they hide behind a typewriter and write whatever without being accurate, yet when called on the carpet, because they are wrong, they run and hide. OK, now you guys are mad at me again because I told the truth. Please remember, I’m not talking about our average fan, just you few guys who think you are “reporters” but never have any facts.

Well, most of the time, when they don't worry about the facts? They're opinion pieces. It's not like YOU need to worry about the facts. I mean, this is an editorial, an opinion piece. You're voicing your opinion that Internet reporters aren't important enough to be on a talk show. Yet I'm sure Meltz has been on a few talk shows. Hell, he's featured in THE movie about professional wrestling! But no, he's lying through his teeth about everything. Yet, amazingly, most of what he says is TRUE! But he must DIE!

I'll agree. I'd make a gun and send it to a troop if I knew how to make a gun, and how to send it to a troop without getting myself thrown into a federal prison.

I saw where Michael Moore said in England that Americans had to be the dumbest people on the planet. Also, in his last book (page 67 and 68) he said that the reason we dislike France is because they are smarter than us, better read and more sophisticated.

Well, Europeans DO tend to be smarter, on the average, than Americans. And why? I have no idea. Most of the Europeans I've talked to are more articulate and more well-educated than my friends over here. However...praising France? INEXCUSEABLE!

But...didn't HE get out? I mean, you did say he's in England. Besides, you tell people all the time how you hate the internet fans, and yet you make ALL of your money because of us and our internet-lacking brethren. Who's the bitch now?

For those of you from different countries who wonder if I like America better than your country, the answer is yes. If I didn’t like it better, I wouldn’t live here. I hope you feel the same about your country; if you don’t, then you are doing your country an injustice by staying. I have no problem saying I am biased to where I live; I think everyone should be biased to their home.

Unless their home continues to fuck them and their family and friends over by passing laws invading their privacy to create a false sense of "security," all the while having people that don't understand the public in office.

This doesn’t mean there aren’t other great places; this is just where I prefer to live.

And I'm sure the Jewish population in Germany is SO sad at that fact.

I truly believe that George W. Bush could be running against the devil right now and the poll numbers would be the same. There is just a polarizing effect with our president. John Kerry is not the answer, but people – or at least the Democrats out there -- don’t care.

Didn't they learn anything from Clinton? You need a charismatic politician to win the election. Not one that talks like he's a Speak-N-Spell (Gore) or looks like he has some untreatable illness (Kerry).

First it was the economy; now the economy is roaring so they say it is Iraq. Now Bush has done everything the international community wanted.

Not quite. He hasn't gotten rid of that stupid look on his face yet. I know some of my friends in England wanted him to do that.

I'd have to agree here, actually. The UN is only a little more intelligent than the AN was pre-WWII.

Germany and Japan were allies. Following the declaration of war on Japan, Germany declared war on the United States. We retaliated.

Bush has done everything the world community has wanted recently. So the question would be, what do you fault him for now?

He's still in office, is a certifiable idiot, and gave tax breaks to the rich while it's the poor that need it. I believe he also cut research for HIV/AIDS vaccinations.

The U.N. never wanted to help, yet it passed the resolution against Iraq.

Well, what IS best for France, Johnny? They have a shit military, so how would they help us win a war?

Kerry and Bush at home are trying very hard to get the religious vote, especially the Catholic vote; there are 65 million Catholics in the U.S. Bush has been to visit the Pope three times. Kerry has been threatened with refusal of communion for his pro-choice views. So the line between church and state is blurred even further. The Catholic church is getting involved in politics, and the politicians are involving the church. I understand being religious -- over 70 percent of voters say religion is important -- but I believe that they are using religion for political motives.

This is because people don't realize that there needs to be a difference, and it's all the times we live in. Religious popularity comes in cycles (at least widespread openness about religious practice), and right now it's on the rise. Give it 15-20 years.

To all our troops out there, we celebrated July 4th because you guys have kept us free. Come home safe because you guys deserve to celebrate your own freedom.

Actually, we celebrated July 4th because that was the day the founding fathers of this nation signed the Declaration of Independence. Sheesh, for a patriot, you sure know jackshit about history.
