The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Some people go to Ozzfest. Some people go to Gathering Of The Juggalos. My day-long music festival entails watching a bunch of teens play trumpet, drums, and vibes on a football field. On July 31st, I'm going to watch the midwestern regional championships of drum and bugle corps at the RCA Dome in beautiful Indianapolis, Indiana. I'm taking the four-hour drive down there with some of my best music geek friends to spend a day at a place where drum corps is just as not-belonging as football is, what with the indoors and Astroturf things and all. Ostensibly, we'll be finding a place to stay at, either a hotel, or crashing at the apartment of a sexually ambiguous former member of a color guard. Hopefully the former...in fact I'd actually prefer an early morning and late night trip in one day, going from the northwest suburbs to Indy and back in one day, then stay at that guy's place, for numerous reasons. But there's probably going to be some downtime involved between getting there, first session, second session, and leaving there. Are there any places that locals or other visitors to the town can recommend to me? Restaurants, shopping malls, theme parks, regular parks, anything to pass the time with some people? I'm hoping this weekend ends up being one of the really memorable things of my life before I head off to college (Where I already have 18 credits before setting foot in a classrom, not too shabby) and everything just goes great. I'm so worried that this'll be another thing where I expect to have the time of my life but people back out of going for flimsy reasons, and I just end up not going at all or being bored as fuck, because there's no way I'm just going to watch twenty-four drum corps all day and nothing else. I'll lose my mind. That's too much for even the most die-hard fan. Thanks one million, talk to you later.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 13, 2004 You came to the wrong state to find something to do if you're underaged. There's the mall, that's it. Go to the Zoo, maybe.

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 13, 2004 My teens weren't THAT eventful. The freedom I enjoy walking into any sleazy dive I please isn't as liberating as I'd figured, either. The only plus side is that I can party outdoors in the boonies like I always have without having to run from cops.

Fuzzy Dunlop 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 I have relatives in Indianapolis, and I always dread the annual weekend trip. They're cool people, but there is NOTHING to do there.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 13, 2004 ...which is why everyone just does big bonfire parties where we get suitably plowed and shoot guns.

alfdogg 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Yeah, I don't get down to Indy much, but not really much to do there. My only trips to Indy involve FuncoLand and retro jersey shopping.

1234-5678 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Whenever you become of legal age to go somewhere/do something it seems to lose its luster. You crazy kids will figure this out soon enough... Definitely. I went to a bar like twice before I turned 21, so it was great for me. A friend of mine had been going since he was 16, and his 21st was the most uneventful birthday I have ever seen. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 18, 2004 You've got two weeks yet. If nothing else, start thumbing your way there about 2 days before the show. This is the heartland. Very hitchhiker-friendly.
