snuffbox Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 ESPN2 has a couple Mike Tyson fights on now before Tuesday Night Fights. They're from 85/86. Check it out, see why he may have been the best ever.
Guest Staravenger Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Thanks, at least I can catch the second episode. Man this guys life went down the shitter, it's so sad until you realize he probably deserved it.
snuffbox Posted July 14, 2004 Author Report Posted July 14, 2004 Nearly every juror in the rape case have since changed their minds...that case isn't nearly as cut and dry as everyone seems to think...
Guest Staravenger Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 I'm still a big Tyson fan, and probably one of few people who never bashes him, but he's not an Angel, even when forgetting the "rape" conviction (bullshit!)
Guest Staravenger Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Weird seeing Tyson not wearing the traditional black trunks and shoes....I guess he didn't convert to the darkside for a little while.
Guest Staravenger Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 If anyone cares, these fights will be repeated fridya night at 8pm ET
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Thanks, at least I can catch the second episode. Man this guys life went down the shitter, it's so sad until you realize he probably deserved it. Are you kidding? His life started in the shitter. If it weren't for boxing, he'd be in prison or dead, totally. This is the teenager that would mug old ladies in elevators. It's only natural that he should become the most dangerous prizefighter to ever put on a pair of gloves. I watched him kill Jack Johnson before I left for work last night. Tyson wasn't even sweating, and he was laughing, as it didn't even go 1 round. If Cus D'Amato hadn't died, we'd be talking about Tyson with even more reverence. The man was purely invincible in his prime.
Guest Staravenger Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 I know all about Tysons childhood, but felt I didn't have to give anyone a lesson on him. I just meant he went from making millions of dollars per fight, owning 2 or 3 mansions across the country, and god knows how many cars, and now he's back to where he started, in the slums with nothing.
Fökai Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 I watched him kill Jack Johnson before I left for work last night. The man was purely invincible in his prime. Ditto. Only had enough time to catch Tyson/Johnson in its entirety, which was HILARIOUS for the reasons you already mentioned. Johnson walking into Tyson's right hook for the second knockdown (and subsequent KO) was frightening. I'll make it a priority to record this show when it comes up on Friday night.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 That's NOTHING compared to the shot he laid on Pinklon Thomas. That shot was probably the roughest knockout I've ever seen. Pink was already pretty much out of it, and Tyson just played Tee-ball with the man's skull. So brutal.
1234-5678 Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 I know all about Tysons childhood, but felt I didn't have to give anyone a lesson on him. I just meant he went from making millions of dollars per fight, owning 2 or 3 mansions across the country, and god knows how many cars, and now he's back to where he started, in the slums with nothing. Which is the one thing he always promised would never happen to himself. As a boxing historian, the most important thing to him was to not end up like all the old fighters, without a pot to piss in, etc. etc. It's a shame he was so self destructive, but some people can't help it I guess.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 Dumber Tyson debt?: Quarter of a MILLION dollar cell phone bill, OR half a million for TIGER FOOD?
Guest Staravenger Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 ....$250,000 phone bill?! Who the fuck did he call? The Pope? I'd say that's a little (more) crazy, but having a pet Tiger that consumed half a million dollars in food is easily #2 compared to anything else.
jimmy no nose Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 I bet the $250,000 cell phone bills come from him getting phones for everyone he associates with and then paying everything for them, then falling behind on the payments, getting late fees on all the phones, and so on like that.
Guest Staravenger Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 That makes a lot of sense...but still stays at #1 because he was dumb enough to do that. Edit: I don't know if anyone posted a topic about this, but Tyson returns to the ring (again) on July 30th against Danny Williams on Showtime, 9pm ET. I predict a knockout 45 seconds into the first round.
Guest Choken One Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 I wonder what Publicity stunt Tyson pulls here for that match.
Guest Staravenger Posted July 17, 2004 Report Posted July 17, 2004 Damn that was a nasty hook to the ribs....and the other knockdown shot was even worse. (the one to the jaw)
snuffbox Posted July 17, 2004 Author Report Posted July 17, 2004 That's NOTHING compared to the shot he laid on Pinklon Thomas. That shot was probably the roughest knockout I've ever seen. Pink was already pretty much out of it, and Tyson just played Tee-ball with the man's skull. So brutal. And Pinklon Thomas was widely considered to be the 'next great heavyweight' back in his day. Cocaine addiction grabbed hold unfortunately, but nobody ever seems to mention that Tyson was destroying actually good fighters in his prime.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 I wonder what Publicity stunt Tyson pulls here for that match. A solid but unspectacular knockout victory, probably.
