AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 Eddie/Angle wasn't exactly mind-blowing at Mania XX. Unless they learn from their mistakes and make this match more like the Eddie/JBL matches (i.e, make it look like they actually hate each other) then it could be the great match we expected in March. Yes, it was rather disappointing I think. It isn't even as if that was one of their first times working together, since I believe in late 2003 they were involved in a number of tag team matches together and surely they'd had house show matches leading up to it. The iffy off-on psychology and odd match flow left me rather disappointed. The kind of story they would go for in this match could be interesting depending on how they build up the feud. Is Angle going to resume the same character he was during the WM feud? If so, he'll probably attempt to injure him before the match and focus on a weakness, but would Angle's neck, leg, back, etc. storyline injuries factor into the match at all? Hopefully they can resume the WM feud with the same quality, because the actual story going into the WM match worked quite well and even had me marking out for the match. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 Im trying to figure out why it wouldn't be Cena vs Angle. Angle has done more stuff to screw over Cena over the last few weeks then Eddy, even if he did basically cost them both their respecitive titles.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 "Street Fight Kane Vs HBK Chris Jericho Vs Randy Orton" Huh? The second one I could see as possible, but they haven't done anything to hint at it last Raw. HBK vs. Kane? Was that rumored ahead of time or what? If that's what is to come out of the pregnancy angle I've gotta scratch my head and ask "huh?!?" Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 16, 2004 It's Shawn who always wants the big payday when he wants and it was said by meltz that the attack was likely a set up for a slam program and I want Jericho/Orton because I think that would be fresher and better then another edge/orton match and Jericho has been very vocal about working with orton. NYU 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 Cena's not the U.S. Champion anymore. And if we're assuming Angle remains as GM through SummerSlam, he probably won't be getting another shot at the U.S. Title. I would slide RVD into that spot - like had been the rumors for the SummerSlam card a few months ago. As for Cena, they'll probably put him against Luther Reigns. Don't think the match next Thursday is going to settle anything. After Cena wins that, he'll move onto the big feud with Angle, leading to a blow-off match at Survivor Series. Other than that, I definitely don't think there will be 11 matches wrestled at SummerSlam. And I definitely don't think all the titles will be wrestled for either. I see the Cruiserweight Title, Women's Title, and both Tag Title matches getting erased for bigger matches - at least, for the time being. So.... SummerSlam 2004 World Heavyweight Title Special Guest Referee: Eugene Chris Benoit © vs. Triple H WWE Heavyweight Title John Bradshaw Leyfield vs. The Undertaker Street Fight Shawn Michaels vs. Kane Kurt Angle vs. Eddie Guerrero WWE United States Title Booker T vs. Rob Van Dam WWE Intercontinental Title Edge © vs. Batista Chris Jericho vs. Randy Orton John Cena vs. Luther Reigns
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 16, 2004 RVD isn't even signed and is doing Velocity Detail right now. I merely said Cena/Booker because they have feuded for 2 months and reigns/cena was booked for next week anyways.
NYU 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 Van Dam signed one of those pre-contract extensions. The formal contract extension is basically guaranteed to follow up. And I doubt one week of Velocity duty is going to kill any title credibility he could have. Like I said, they've been building up the Cena/Angle feud - as well as the Cena/Luther feud - for months now. I doubt they're going to blowoff the Cena/Luther feud on a meaningless Smackdown episode next week. Especially since, if Angle and Guerrero are fighting at SummerSlam, they're going to need Cena to fight someone that will keep the Angle feud still fresh in people's minds. Cena and Angle are going to definitely fight sometime in the near future. And it's going to be Luther that's needed to bridge the gap until the feud with Angle is ready. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 if we're assuming Angle remains as GM through SummerSlam, he probably won't be getting another shot at the U.S. Title. Depends on whether or not the "board of directors" catches wind of Angle's antics and decides to remove him. Of course, he only has been faking injuries after supposedly being thrown off that balcony, screwed a couple of wrestlers out of titles and ruined the ending to the SD WWE Title cage match. For the WWE board of directors to actually remove anyone from a GM position I think either they have to fire half of their roster or something. Theft, murder, threats, sexual harrassment, satanic rituals, etc. are okay still, I think. Hmm--what if Angle has been faking it the whole time and Big Show was in on it? It was all an elaborate plot to...uh...have Angle run in dressed as a luchadore and screw Eddy out of a title shot at the end of a TV show. However, Angle was unmasked... ...which wouldn't have been a problem if Angle just bribed Shannon Moore or Akio or some one else to run in and do it. Anyway, until the feud with Luther is over, the title could still be on Cena and back off again. It would be pointless to have the title on the line for that feud, because Cena doesn't need it, Angle doesn't need it, but it could be very helpful to Booker T, Dupree, or much more likely, Suzuki. Big Show should be back by Survivor Series, correct?

Aero 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 For my card, I'd keep pretty much the same matches (World Title, both Tag Title matches), but I'd maybe make a few changes. Most of the Raw matches seem obvious, except for the IC Title match. I have no desire to see an Edge-Orton rematch, and they already gave away Batista in a 20-minute match on Raw last week. Then there's Jericho. Rather than split these four up in singles matches, put them together for a 4-Way Elimination Match. You'd think HBK-Kane would be a sure-bet, but I don't see HBK returning before Summerslam. If they want to continue with a good build, he should return next week. Unless HBK comes back, I have no clue what to do with Kane, unless they want a Matt Hardy rematch. The Smackdown matches seem alot less predictable, except for Eddie vs. Angle. The whole Undertaker storyline is rediculous, especially when he hasn't been on TV for three weeks, except for a pre-recorded threat to Heyman. It's rumored to be JBL defending against Taker, so I guess Taker gets the No. 1 Contendership in his next RARE TV appearance next week (as Michael Cole calls them). We still don't know what'll happen with the US Title. Tournament? Goes back to Cena? At the end of Smackdown, Cole and Tazz were saying how Angle screwed himself as GM by being unmasked, so this will likely play a part in Cena's stripping of the US Title. Maybe the board of directors just give the title back, or give Cena a rematch. It seems odd to have a Cena-Angle feud build for months, and then switch right back to Angle-Eddie. Maybe, the point of stripping Cena of the US Title is too just remove Cena from the mid-card and officially bring him into the main event WWE Title scene. This way, Cena never had to job the US Title, and it makes him look like a threat standing up to Angle. This probably won't happen, but it's a thought. Next week, the show is built around Angle's GM position being in jeopardy. Cena is still pissed about being stripped of his title since he lost it for accidentally hitting a perfectly fine Angle. Now, the "board of directors" could just give Cena back his title, like I said before, or maybe they could claim that Angle's GM decision was final, and it can't be changed. So, as compensation, they offer Cena the No. 1 Contendership for the belt at Summerslam. Then, all the other SD mid-carders can fight over the US Title in a tournament or whatever. There are enough of them (Booker T, RVD, Dupree, Haas, Kenzo, Luther). As of right now, it doesn't make much sense for Taker to threaten Heyman last week, appear next week and win a title shot against JBL. You could just give JBL Heyman as a manager, but JBL doesn't need a manager, because he's capable of good promos already. I hate to think about it, but maybe they're actually heading towards Undertaker vs. Heidenreich at Summerslam. So here's what the card would look like... World Title Benoit vs. HHH WWE Title JBL vs. John Cena Kurt Angle vs. Eddie Guerrero Intercontinental Title: 4-Way Elimination Match Edge vs. Orton vs. Jericho vs. Batista Kane vs. HBK US Title Booker T vs. RVD or Haas Undertaker vs. John Heidenreich World Tag Titles La Resistance vs. Rhyno & Tajiri WWE Tag Titles Kidman & London vs. Dudleys Cruiserweight Title Rey Mysterio vs. Jamie Noble SD matches outnumber Raw matches, but I'd say there's already a good chance that the Cruiserweight Title and SD Tag Title matches don't make the final card. Last year's Summerslam was packed, leaving the same title matches off the show.
Guest Birds in the Hotel Report post Posted July 16, 2004 Everybody does know that Taker will have 1 more title reign, right? RIGHT? Be prepared. And hey, he's better than JBL.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 16, 2004 no he isn't. Bradshaw despite his faults as a worker is the best heel champion in a while and I'll dare say he is currently a better heel then Kurt Angle was in his last run. I don't like the fact Bradshaw is our champion when he is ideally suited for the US Title but he is a completely fresh character and putting the title on 'Taker doesn't mean anything. Ratings won't increase, Taker was never a house draw either. Nothing would change, it would just make it harder to get the title back on Eddy.
Guest Birds in the Hotel Report post Posted July 16, 2004 Has it come to anyone's attention that Eddy's days of being a champion, may be over? Who says he'll ever get the belt back? Hell, I bet when Benoit loses his belt, he never sees it again either.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 "Bradshaw despite his faults as a worker is the best heel champion in a while and I'll dare say he is currently a better heel then Kurt Angle was in his last run." That doesn't say much when the only heel champions WWE's had in a while have been Brock and HHH. I don't think it's so much he has been a better heel than Kurt was in late 2002/early 2003 as it is that Kurt was booked so poorly. JBL does have a great deal of Vince's support and is being booked quite strongly, while not being booked to be invincible.
