Posted By Widro on 07.18.04

What will Mick's role be?

Ring of Honor has announced that Mick Foley will be making his ROH debut at an upcoming September 11 show at the Elizabeth, NJ, Rex Plex. News on what he will be doing at the show will be available in the next couple of weeks.

Probably just an interview, he can't really do anything else with his knees.

You have to admire Mick Foley for the fact that not only has he gone against his word of "retiring" and swearing he wouldn't be like the other "retired" wrestlers.

He writes a couple best sellers a year, works a pair of big paycheck dates with WWE and has control of his storyline and works all over the world making a good buck as a headliner.

The guy has it made quite frankly.

Mick made it VERY clear several times before he retired that this is how his retirement would work. He was NOT going to stop wrestling 100%. He would wrestle matches very rarely. Since he retired in 2000(and I mean post Wrestlemania 2000), I can count the matches he's wrestled on one hand(correct me if I'm wrong). He's probably not even wrestling at this show, and his big feud when he came back elevated a new star. What the fuck is so wrong with that?

Counting his TRUE "retirement" match at No Way Out 2000, he's wrestled:

WrestleMania 2000/16

WrestleMania XX

RAW [in the 4v4 match]

Backlash 2004

And this isn't counting any indies, that I'm not sure of he worked for.

How much do you think it's costing ROH to bring in Foley? Do you think he's worth the money for ROH at this point?

He's costing less than another star they were trying to bring in. They tripled their previous highest first day presale for a show with the announcement, so it's panning out pretty well so far.

I imagine he's doing it for a bit less than his normal fee due to the show's location and the fact that he's probably seen and enjoys the ROH product.

It's pretty clear from what I've heard of Foley on Meltzer's show that he keeps up with what's going on and is one of the "smarter" wrestlers as far as being aware of what people are doing outside of WWE. He's certainly still a wrestling fan, as well.

And, he's absolutely worth whatever they're paying him. They'll make a killing off the tape/DVD and more if he does a shoot interview before. Not to mention they'll draw a very large crowd (which will buy a lot of other tapes/DVDs). It also will help a lot in them getting past the whole RF thing.

No matter how you slice it; ROH got a huge deal here.

The money they are (if at all) paying Foley will likely be made up by at least double the ammount simply for the hype the card and attraction it'll get. The tape sales, the heart of the company's success will be blomming that night and the sales of the 9/11 show will likely sell a great deal as well.

I'm sure ROH would love to promote a MICK FOLEY match but i doubt that Foley will risk it with his current knee problems. Perhaps, maybe they can do a 8 Man or something along those lines and Foley can take a bump or two but i'm sure it's going to be just a promo deal where he'll likely have a confrontation with someone and have a quasi brawl with a face saving and setting up a match for that night or a future show with Foley as cornerman/Ref or something along those lines.
