To the shock of roughly no one, Alex Graman was sent back down tonight. I was gonna say "after the game" but I think it happened in the middle of the first inning.

Well, in the "bright side" column, at least he didn't take the loss.

You can't make roster moves like that in the middle of a game. It was probably known he was gonna be sent back down but they couldn't officially do it until the end of the game.

Bronson Arroyo has struck out 7 Seattle batters in a row.

yes, he still holds the record in all forms of American proffesional baseball. Earlier this year though somebody in the minor leagues set the minors record. I'll look up the numbers if I get bored.

Bronson Arroyo isn't exactly Nolan Ryan though. I still believe he'll end up being a good number #3 in the future for the Red Sox rotation. Nice fastball that tops out at 91-92 and a great slider.

That was kind of my point.

8 strike-outs in a row. Well, kind of...the last 8 outs have been by strike-out...he has a walk mixxed in.

Yeah. Arroyo has better control.

Tied game on a weird play. Arroyo hasn't pitched as bad as his record indicates. He gets next to no run support.

After Zambrano decided to be a dumbass and plunk Edmonds again, I actively rooted for the Cubs to lose that game. You gave up the homer; try and get the next guy out, don't get all pissy like that.

Fucking Paul Abbott. They need to release him NOW. And if Ed Wade doesn't make a move to improve the pitching, he ought to go too.

I'm not really sure why you guys picked him up.

They picked him up because he was a cheap solution when Padilla went down with an elbow injury. They also don't want to rush their prospects to the majors.

I wouldn't exactly call Paul Abbott a solution to anything. I mean, yeah, he's a stopgap, but he has no business on a team competing for first.

The Red Sox are throwing the ball around and allowing the Mariners a chance to get back into it.

Telemaco has been on the DL for the last month and I think is looking at two more weeks at the earliest. He had been pitching hurt since spring, he just didn't want to tell anyone.

And AS, here is the Phillies management mindset explaining why they picked up someone like Abbott:

Phillies management: Do you have big league experience

Abbott: Yes

PM: *getting giddy* Are you any good?

Abbott: Not really

PM: *still giddy* But you have experience right?

Abbott: Yes

PM: We'll take you

Foulke blows another save. Reason being? He works once a week so he's never sharp.

Francona only uses Foulke in Save situations or ties. He's gone 9 days in a row before without using him because they were either losing by 2 runs or less, or winning by 4+ runs.

Watching the Cubs/Cards game tonight, it's become almost obvious that it's going to take a total meltdown of the Cards and a hot Cubs team down the stretch if the Cubs are actually going to take the Central. Even taking the two-game series wasn't going to mean a whole lot, but as it is, if they lose tomorrow, they're 10 out and basically finished in the division. Not many excuses can be made, either. They were hitting much better than they've been in recent weeks, but couldn't put it all together for a big rally. And still, the Cards are the more stacked team offensively and defensively. Don't wanna throw in the towel, but as we near August, something amazing's going to have to happen (and a significant change in Chicago, too) for them to take the division.

And while the Phillies are only a game out, I think they should be grouped with the Cubs and Astros and the bigger disapointments this season. The way they were all being hyped, you'd figure at least two of them were in the postseason, easily.

No way are the Cubs one of the bigger disappointments of the season. They're still in contention for the wild card and it's not their fault the Cardinals are head and shoulders above everyone else. I wouldn't put the Phillies in that list yet, either, but if they falter down the stretch and don't come out on top, they belong on there.
