I'm sure a lot of Celtic fans will LOVE this list. The Bulls, Warriors, Clippers and Magic?

Utah and Milwaukee should both be higher as well. And I might put Denver ahead of Dallas.

Discuss.

EDIT: forgot the Grizzlies.

From these, I'd say that the Heat and Nuggets are worth a look. The Heat are a top 3 team in the East, and it's kind of a toss-up there, so at 10-1 I like them. And the Nuggets have potential to be really good if things fall into place. 20-1 is a nice payout for potential.

I'm still not ready to call Miami a top 3 team in the East, Shaq or not. They had nothing in the way of depth last year and they just traded away 3 starters AND Michael Doleac is the only free agent they've signed.

I'd put the Hawks at worse odds to win the championship then the Bobcats. The Bobcats have Okafur who's NBA ready and several young guys that are supposed to have breakout years. I wouldn't put them as playoff contenders (even in the sorry ass East) but I could see them winning 20 games. The Hawks have absolutely no one, even if hell freezes over and they sign Erick Dampier.

Now tell me the Hawks are going to be better then the Bobcats. Woah when did the Hawks get Al Harrington? Err... I still stand by my previous statement.

I dunno, Chris Crawford and Bob Sura put up big numbers last year once they got some time, I know, I had them on my Fantasy team.

Then again, I think both of those guys are free agents, so nevermind.

The only reason that the Celtics at 100-1 is a good bet is the fact that the NBA is going to realign to 6 divisions next year, and the Celts will be in a fairly weak division. (I think it's them, the Nets, the Knicks, the Raptors & the Sixers) While there's no really horrible team in the mix (e.g. Washington, Atlanta, Charlotte) there's also not a really dominant team, either. Whoever wins this division will probably earn the 3 seed, and thus have home court for at least one round of the playoffs. Once a team gets to the postseason, they have a reasonable chance of getting lucky at the right times and winning a surprise series or 2.

I'd still not bet on it happening, but it's not entirely inconceivable.

Does anyone know what the odds are for each team just winning their conference?

Posted

100-1 for the Clippers better than the Wizards 200-1? That's crazy there is no way the Clippers will get out of the California division but the Wizards have a chance to advance out of the "weak" North East division.

Posted

I agree with you Raza. The Wizards I think have a slim shot at the 8 seed. I know we've said this for the past three years but this is a make or break year for Kwame Brown and Gilbert Arenas showed himself to be one most underrated players in the game. The Antawn Jamison trade (And getting rid of Stackhouse and Laetner) also helped. While the Clippers have a very slim chance of breaking out of the bottom dwellers of the Western Conference.

I'll take odds on Denver and New Orleans with that.

Well do remember, The Hornets are officially a western conference team. Making the playoffs will be damn near impossible I'd say.

I'm sure Ainge can pull off a stupid trade to make those odds even more profitable.

The Bulls will always be above the other awful teams because of the potential their kids have. The guys below them are just awful teams with no real upside when you take into consideration what conference they're in and who their personal is.

I still disagree with the Spurs being the dominant team in the West. I think the T-Wolves, when healthy definitely fit that description better.

Posted

Anyone stupid enough to put money down on the Wizards, even at 200-1, deserves to lose their money.

I admit that getting Jamison might help some, but they are in the same division with Miami, and to some extent Orlando, so I doubt they'll even be close enough to sniff the 8th seed anytime soon.

EASTERN CONFERENCE

-Atlantic-

Boston Celtics

New Jersey Nets

New York Knicks

Philadelphia 76ers

Toronto Raptors

-Central-

Chicago Bulls

Cleveland Cavaliers

Detroit Pistons

Indiana Pacers

Milwaukee Bucks

-Southeast-

Atlanta Hawks

Charlotte Bobcats

Miami Heat

Orlando Magic

Washington Wizards

WESTERN CONFERENCE

-Southwest-

Dallas Mavericks

Houston Rockets

Memphis Grizzlies

New Orleans Hornets

San Antonio Spurs

-Northwest-

Denver Nuggets

Minnesota T-Wolves

Portland Trail Blazers

Seattle SuperSonics

Utah Jazz

-Pacific-

Golden State Warriors

Los Angeles Clippers

Los Angeles Lakers

Phoenix Suns

Sacramento Kings

The Southwest division is LOADED. You could make a case for all 5 teams making the playoffs, and definitely 3 will make it (Dallas,San Antonio,Houston).

What makes everyone think Miami will do so damn great next year? Because of Shaq? HA!

Add Shaq to a team that was close to upseting the Pacers and making the Eastern Conference finals and stick them in a crappy division with the Wizards, Hawks and an Expansion Team, and you have a recipe for them to be so damn great.

Crap, there's a new team? Thats what I get for not paying attention during the off-season. Anyone know what they're uniforms are going to look like?

Let's not forget they lost 3 of their starters in the process. Odom, Butler, and Grant do not equal one Shaq. Perhaps only in weight.

The design of the uniforms wont be revealed until August 11th.

Logo looks like this:

God damn, I just got a horrible XFL vibe from seeing that logo. (cries in a corner)

I would probably have put the Pistons as the favorites. But if there is a team that can beat them I would say its the Spurs.

Blazers 60-1. So youre saying theres a chance.

Pistons imo should still be the odds on favorite to win. The key components all return, and McDyess should give the Pistons a deeper bench.

I don't follow everyone, but is McDyess healthy yet? Seemed like he was on the DL for almost 2 seasons.

I think the Pistons can repeat if they keep Rasheed. I heard earlier today that he might not want to play for the Pistons this year.

I'll put my $$$ on the T-Wolves winning the NBA Championship.
