The Watchmen

Watchmen," the seminal DC Comics limited series credited with redefining the superhero genre, has landed at Paramount Pictures.

 

Darren Aronofsky ("Pi," "Requiem for a Dream") will develop and direct the project, which is being written by David Hayter ("Iron Man").

 

"Watchmen," created by writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons, was released as a critically acclaimed 12-issue comic book in 1986 and is often referred to as the "War and Peace" of comic books. It is a crime-conspiracy story that provided the first realistic look at the behind-the-heroics lives of superhero archetypes.

 

Set in an alternate America, "Watchmen" follows the costumed hero Rorschach, who is living a vigilante lifestyle because most masked heroes have retired or been outlawed. While investigating a murder, he learns that a former masked-hero colleague has been killed, prompting him to begin investigating a possible conspiracy to eliminate all masked heroes -- retired or otherwise.

 

Aronofsky is scheduled to direct Hugh Jackman in "The Fountain" this fall. He is also developing an adaptation of the Japanese comic "Lone Wolf and Cub."

 

"Watchmen" was initially set up at Universal Pictures.

Aronofsky was also slated to do "Batman Begins" early on, so I'm not sure if he'll actually make the film. BUT, I'd rather him than most other directors.

It's in good hands, David Hayter wrote the screenplay for both X-men movies.

 

Any ideas on the cast? I'm torn between Edward Noton or Tim Roth for Rorschach.

Am I wrong, or has the movie version of Lone Wolf and Cub made and been titled Road to Perdition?

 

Oh, and I worry about a Watchmen adadptation. That book is so massive.

I have a lot of faith in David Hayter and Darren Aranofsky in making Watchmen... assuming the studio doesn't pull some shit, like demand ashton kutcher or beyonce knowles have a part, or change the script or something like that.

Road To Perdition was a graphic novel that I believe was somewhat based on the Japanese comic, Lone Wolf And Cub, different story, same type of concept. They turned Road To Perdition into a movie, not Lone Wolf.

I saw this online and it appears to be good news. My only hope is that they give each character a decent amount of screen time and don't exclusively focus on one.

My hope is that they realize that they probably can't do this in only one movie unless the bastard's going to be 3+ hours long.

 

 

Things that I feel will be cut-

 

1. References to Night Owl I's "Under The Hood", other than the Comedian - Silk Spectre I attempted rape

 

2. That goddamn pirate comic book

 

3. The whole lesbian cab driver deal

 

4. References to minor members of the Minutemen such as Dollar Bill, Silhouette, and Mothman.

 

 

 

Stuff like Doctor Manhattan's origin, Hooded Justice's breakup of the attempted rape and his subsequent mysterious disappearance, the Crimebusters meeting in the 60s, etc. should all be in there because of how crucial it is to the plot.
