Protein shakes

Recommended Posts

I've seen some threads about gaining weight and whatnot where people have mentioned these. How many take these on a regular basis? Are they less usefull if you don't have a regular workout routine?

During my bulking up I was taking a protein/weight gainer shake twice a day. It did help me gain weight, although some of it was fat, I still packed on on some pounds of muscle during the few months I took it. I just lost most of the other weight that was associated with it, so I'll probably go back on it in a few weeks.

As for taking it and not working out? I would assume you would gain weight, but not muscle. Protein goes to your muscles, if you don't use your muscles you just have a shitload of protein in your system being unused. So eventually you'll just (for lack of better words) shit out all the protein, but keep the calories that come with it, thus creating stores of fat calories. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :D

If you start drinking thousand calorie shakes without working out, you'll bloat up like a fucking beanbag chair.

I just started drinking them after I work out a few months ago, and I've gained about 8 pounds, so that seems to work. I wouldn't reccomend drinking any weight gaining shake too often if you don't work out though, because I know some people that have and, well, they were not to happy with the results.

Recipe I use:

6 Ounces Regular Milk

2 Scoops of White Powder Stuff

1 or 2 Scoops of Peanut Butter

And I usually add in an ice cube or two.

Every day I'm going to the gym I drink a protein shake, which is usually:

1 scoop Power Whey protein

1 banana

1/2 C skim milk

1 spoon vanilla

sometimes along with other stuff like some cocoa powder, an orange, an extra banana, etc. I haven't put on any weight from this but instead it's helped me convert my extra fat into muscle. I would never drink one if I wasn't planning on working out that day.

I get these big 55g shakes from the GNC, which I use once before a big workout and once after. If I'm just lifting or just running, I'll only take one. 16oz of water and two scoop of whey protein.

I actually go with the low fat protein shakes.

I'll have a protein shake in the morning when I wake up, one after a workout, and one right before I go to bed.

For the latter two, I mix in about 10g's of Glutamine as well.

Often times, and always after a workout, I will throw a banana into the mix. Other times I will use strawberries or what have you.
