So far down (what should be, anyway) the Yankees radar right now. Secondbase is serviceable-decent, and we really need Kenny Lofton right now.

Has Bernie become the full time DH? I confess to not catching the Yankees day-to-day.

My other brainstorm was Dioner Navarro for Ryan Howard, but that's iffy. I'm just quickly losing confidence in Mike Lieberthal.

No, but he really kind of should. They've definitely started phasing it in. Lofton is playing center two or three days a week.

Edit: typo

First place was nice for a day I suppose. Ken Macha continues to be an idiot.

Zito pitches tommorow. Bleh.

BPro suggested that the Yankees should consider moving Bernie to first base. Any thoughts on that?

Right now for Giambi or over the next couple years?

Because I think it always was kind of the plan to try to make him a first base/DH type guy for the end of his career.

If, hypothetically, the yankees trade Lofton for Polanco, who plays center, I'm wondering.

Do they move Matsui over and put ______ in left? Or do they shop around and try to get into the Steve Finley sweepstakes?

The Astros and Reds are now in the 13th inning of their first game, it will never end. I predict the Reds will trade another relief pitcher during this game, causing them to run of pitchers.

Cubs trail 4-3 headed to the bottom of the ninth against the Phils.

Basically, they are dead considering the way they have played in one run games. If they can come back and win, I'll be stunned.

Their defense is what let them down today. Were it not for the two errors, they would be up 3-2 right now, since both men who reached on the errors scored via the home run.

Doesn't look like they pulled off any kind of deal, which may be a mistake, since this team's clearly in need of some sort of change.

The Angels have pulled it back to 6 - 6 in the 7th having been 5 - 0 down in the 3rd. Vlad has been taken out the game as has Bengie Molina for uncharacteristic errors.

We need to ensure these sort of games are wins as Oakland and Texas won't always be in touching distance if we win 3 out of 5 each time.

Well that changed quick!

So which is the bigger story tomorrow? Maddux going for 300 or Nomar's Cubs debut? Either way, all of Chicago will be following this one.

Carlos Delgado absolutely owns Jorge Sosa. He hit his first 2 homers in his 4-HR game last year against him and has 2 more so far tonight (8-15, 5 HR in his career).

Too bad David Bush had his worst outing so far and the Jays are down 6-2.

I don't. I thought he was doing the team more bad than good, but he seemed like a good guy. Granted, people are paying to see their team win and nothing in sports is judged by how nice of a guy you are, but I still don't think booing your team is smart. I think the only exception is when a guy who's on another level just isn't getting the job done. Gonzo wasn't exactly playing below the level he always played at.

Benson has given up seven earned runs in his first Mets start. Good thing the Mets gutted their farm system for him. Who knows how many runs Matt Ginter or Jae Seo would've given up.

Here's why I can see the Cards failing in the postseason. Their starting pitching has been good most of the time, but there's some big question marks here and the biggest has to be Matt Morris. He's way too inconsistent. One start, he'll look horrible and not make it into the third inning. The next, he'll throw a complete game.

He's DONE after 2/3 of an inning, giving up EIGHT earned runs. All of the damage was done without Bonds, who was one of the two men Morris retired.

Barry Zito has figured out a new secret to success. Put your team in a big hole early and have your offense bail you out! Last start he puts the A's in a 5-0 hole against the Mariners but the offense scores 14 unanswered. Tonight puts the A's down 4-0 but they score 9 unanswered.

A's back in first, third lead change in three days.

Is ANYONE surprised that Benson got rocked his first game as a Met? I'm not quite sure where all the love from the talking heads came these last few weeks, but to me he's always seemed like a guy who's potential has far outweighed his performance. I saw highlights of the game and it looked like he was throwing slow pitch out there, or does his delivery always look like that?

Doesn't help that the team he made his Mets debut against can seemingly do no wrong the last month or so. But I agree, I don't see where all the Benson love came from. Oliver Perez looks like he's got the brighter future, IMO.

I know that fantasy baseball isn't exactly the be all end all indicator, but Oliver Perez is a must own guy in leagues. If he's on waivers you grab him. Low ERA, decent WHIP, high K total. Kris Benson is a guy who is completely hit or miss and widely unowned, and even as a spot starter is too inconsistent for my tastes because, like tonight, you never know when he'll get smacked around.

Zambrano, I wouldn't have have wanted him on my teams, but at least he went out there and won some games. He's not a bad guy to have in H2H leagues due to the K's and wins, but the extremely high WHIP kills me. If the Mets can somehow fix whatever makes him so wild this deal will pan out, but with "effectively wild" guys sometimes the control kills their effectiveness, so we'll see...
