Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 Man, I cannot believe how god-awful the Giants' bullpen is. I know the Cardinals are an amazingly talented offensive team and have made impossible comebacks all season long, but tonight is ridiculous. Down 8-0 in the first inning; their bullpen has kept the Giants off the scoreboard and slowly but surely, they've crept back into the game, a la the game against the Cubs a couple weeks back. It's 8-7 now in the top of the ninth, with the tying run at first with nobody out. This team would be so much fun to watch if they weren't in the NL Central. But I think it's clear if the Giants somehow get into the postseason, they're going down because of their abortion of a bullpen.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 Why did they trade Felix Rodriguez anyway? I thought they'd want to ADD to the bullpen, not subtract from it.
Fökai 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 Ortiz, Hampton and Jaret Wright had a combined 14-0 record in July. Look out, NLCS, here we come!
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 Braves? NLCS? Bwahahahaha. I'm feeling a Wrigley Field South Part II this October.
Bored 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 Hey did you know Greg Maddux is going for his win #300 today? Seriously I completely forgot. This isn't getting nearly the amount of hype from the media that Roger Clemens received last year.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 Knowing Maddux, he probably cares more about a Cubs win than a Maddux win. He's a good guy like that.
treble 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 I hope his isn't stretched out over a month or so like Clemens' was last year.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 Maddux is on a hot streak, he'll get it today. It's also the debut of NOMAR~!
strummer 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 The Mets have scored 1 run, yes 1 run, in the first 21 innings of the series against the Braves.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 Orlando Cabrera makes his first AB count with the Red Sox with a solo HR off Johan Santana in the 1st inning.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 Baker has Patterson leading off. I wonder what his numbers against Wolf are. If they're nothing special, then I don't see the logic in that. By the way, the wind is blowing out, so the Cubs offense is probably going to have to be rocking if Maddux is to get 300 today.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 Cubs are already down 2-0, so we better dig the long ball and rock Wolf hard and early.
Guest Brian Report post Posted August 1, 2004 Garciaparra grounds into a DP, so the trades already paying off for the Sox.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 The crowd goes CRAZY for Nomar, who promptly grounds into a double play on the first pitch. So Maddux has a tough first inning and Wolf only throws three pitches. Ouch.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 ANd we did! Back-to-back jacks!
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 Maddux seems to be warmed up now. It just takes him a little longer.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 Are they chanting "ALOUUUUUU" or are those "BOOOOOS!" for Nomar? YOU decide! Go Phillies!
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 it's Alooooooooooou. We love our new guy. Nope. No boos.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 And Sosa's questionable defensive skills give the Phillies a 3-2 lead. Both starters have really settled down since the first two innings, though.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 Twins tie it up 2-2 in the bottom of the 6th on a Torii Hunter RBI single.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 What the hell is up with Sosa being able to complete most of these sliding or diving catches, but messes up on the more simple plays? And just to show you how impatient the Cubs' hitters have been today, Wolf has only thrown 46 pitches through five. Maddux, through six, has thrown more than 40 pitches than Wolf. Clearly him having to throw 20 more pitches than Wolf in the first helped that.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 The Phillies collapsing and/or trailing by like 10 runs for the past week is making me sick. Another loss, it seems.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 Here comes the RUNZ
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 Was today the final straw for Bowa? With a slim one-run lead, he left Wolf in when it was clear he was out of gas, despite not being anywhere near the 100 pitch mark. The momentum of the game changed entirely during that seventh inning. I thought the Cubs were the only team who loaded up the bases with no one out and walked away empty handed. So with the Braves sweeping the Mets and the Phillies losing this series, is Bowa history?
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 Leaves Wolfy in...idiot. But the Cubs practically GAVE The Phillies the game...Bases loaded and no outs. Thank you Chase and Mr. Michaels for youre valuable at bats. Fire Bowa, I don't care anymore. Every year after the All Star break the Phils are doomed. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 The Cubs didn't practically give them the game back, Farnsworth did. Were it not for Ramirez' play at third that kept the ball from being a double and Remlinger's appearance, I think the Phillies would've tied it up or even taken the lead. Fuzzy Dunlop 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 If Nomar continues to get reactions like those today, it'll be near impossible for him to leave in the offseason.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 If Nomar continues to get reactions like those today, it'll be near impossible for him to leave in the offseason. He will get those reactions. Fred McGriff got those reactions. That's Cubs fans for you. Trying to sell Nomar on the Cubs.
Bored 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2004 I can give one parallel and that was Mark McGwire when he was traded to St. Louis. Most expected him to be a rental and sign with the Angels (who he grew up a fan of) that offseason but he fell in love with St. Louis and signed an extension before the season was over. Maybe Nomar, another So. Cal guy who could end up with the Angels or Dodgers, will fall in love with Chicago. Unrelated, the A's take three out of four in Arlington which is just huge considering their road woes the last two plus months. Now more "fun" with New York and Minnesota next. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted August 2, 2004 Hopefully the A's can keep it going with two tough teams coming up on the road. Hudson said he is ready for his next scheduled start.
