Jamie Foxx: Collateral & Ray

Recommended Posts

I'm sure most of you here have seen the trialer for Collateral by now, the new film starring Foxx and Tom Cruise. When I first saw that trailer, it really interested me. For one because Cruise seems to play the "bad guy", and Foxx came across to me in the trailer as pretty convincing in his role. So I'm really pumped for that film, for better or for worse.

Then, before I, Robot, I saw the trailer for Ray. That trailer, it blew me away even more. Jamie Foxx just looks like he is going to be able to play that role just perfectly. He looks like he IS Ray Charles, it's just amazing to me. I was shocked at Foxx in Ali, I feel he was very convincing in that film, but this one looks just outstanding. I may just be overstating things here, but Jamie Foxx looks like he is actually becoming a great solid actor. I can't wait for both of the films I've said here, and especially Ray.

In the trailer for Ray, whe he goes "Well I'm gonna make it do what it do baby, heh heh, yeah." it just gets me every time, it's great. I smell much bigger things for Foxx already.

As for the film itself...wow, I hope to God it's as good as I think it's going to be.

Is anyone else here impressed with Foxx yet?

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

Jamie Foxx has improved alot since his days on In Livin Color and that movie which gets overplayed on Comedy Central about being stuck at a convience store. It is good to see him make an attempt at doing drama and becoming serious about it. If Jamie Foxx does not get nominated for his role as Ray Charles then I will be very angry.

Held Up was the name of that convenience store movie.

Jamie Foxx also did some made for FX movie about that gang leader turned Nobel Prize winner. I didn't see it, but from the previews it looked good.

He's really showing that he can do way more than comedy and that's pretty cool.

I always liked Jamie Foxx. Never thought he was a bad actor, just needed the right roles for people to see that he can do more than comedy.

His performance in ALI (Underrated movie) was excellent, only coming up short to Will Smith. And he also held his own with Al Pacino in Any Given Sunday.

Jamie Foxx is the Next Jim Carey.

Great Dramatic actor that still is screwed by his comedic past.

Collateral seems like another Phone Booth...and thats not a bad thing. Im waiting for Ray too. Seems like a great movie and I love movies with a crowded cast.

I bet Mystic River was one of your favorites then.

I just can't wait for both of these films in the topic, I'll be at both on opening night.

As soon as I made that post, I found the Teaser on another site.

Thanks, though.

I came very close to making a topic about Ray yesterday. Foxx looks the part, can sing, and has already proven himself to be a good actor. This movie is going to be a serious Oscar contender. It's just a shame that Ray Charles himself didn't live long enough to see it.

Yeah. Screwed. I feel real sorry for Jim Carry and his millions of dollars.

He means screwed in the sense that many of theor former roles will possibly haunt them for the rest of their careers in that many people will never be able to look past his role in Ace Ventura in order to see how great he can be. Same goes for Foxx.

meh, Carrey did a massively popular stupid comedy. Foxx has fortunately not found a pigeon-hole-inducing role.

He's also apparently played piano as a kid, which probably helped a lot. Jamie always comes across great in interviews, and I'm pulling for him in Ray (where apparently his performance is just awesome)

I've read that Jamie Foxx actually got tips from Ray Charles himself. From how to act like him to actual piano playing tips. Also, I believe Foxx went to college on a full classical piano scholarship.

He also supposedly really got into the role by trying to "become" a blind person, by spending a lot of time blindfolded, etc...

I can't wait to check this one out.

EDIT:

Yeah, check this link out.

I'm just bumping this one up since Ray comes out next weekend, and so far it has 100% at RottenTomatoes from the advance reviews.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/ray/

I'm calling it...he'll be nominated, and will more than likely win for Best Actor.

I'm sure that Foxx will likely win this one having seen the reviews but I still believe no performence will Match Carrey's performence.

Why do I have a feeling Kate Winselt, Best Screenplay will win for Eternal and Carey won't even get a freaking nomination.

I can't see the Academy giving two comedians nominations.

First Jim Carrey, then Marlon Wayans and now Jamie Foxx...that's 3 "In Living Color" guys turning in good dramatic roles...

Damon better start looking around for some dramatic roles...

Has Marlon done any dramatic stuff since his brilliant and underlooked performence in "Requiem for a Dream" ?

Unfortunaly, Marlon has done nothing but trash since. However, he has a dramatic movie about a stand up comic he's filming now, and it's directed by Damon.

Here's his films since Requiem, and the only thing you can say is "at least he has a career".

White Chicks (2004)

The Ladykillers (2004)

Scary Movie 2 (2001)

Dungeons & Dragons (2000)

The Tangerine Bear (2000)

Scary Movie (2000)

Hey what about Keenan's masterful performance in The Glimmer Man?

OK I got nothing................

Although Damon had that one movie with Jon Voight a few years back

You're thinking of Most Wanted, but it was Keenan. Awful movie that I saw in the theater, but I worked at the theater. I think I also saw The GLimmer Man at the theater.

Damon has had several dramatic roles, most notably in Bamboozled.

Damon was pretty good in that "The Last Boy Scout" movie with Bruce Willis, not really a dramatic movie but it wasn't a comedy.

I believe that it's what we call an "action" movie...
