EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 The deal is Todd Jones and Brad Correll for Anderson Machado and Ryan Hancock. Hancock I like but pitching prospects are expendable outside the big two. Machado doesn't look like he'll amount to much at this point, and the Phillies have Danny Gonzalez and Carlos Rodriguez at the lower levels, so they needed to make room. Jones is a step above Hernandez at least.
the pinjockey Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 My problem, with Machado, is it is just another example of them holding onto a prospect to the point where they become worthless and are traded for roster filler.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 It wasn't like he was an A-1 prospect at any point. I'm surprised Oakland never took a gamble on him.
Guest Anglesault Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Apparently, Gord Ash of all fucking people is saying AZ/NYY talks are back on.
Guest GreatOne Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 If that rumor--yes I know it was a rumor--had been true and there was a guarantee he'd resign I'd have had no problems sending the aptly named JJ PUTZ to KC for Sweeney. Yankee Stadium, it ruins Mariner pitchers for life (Putz, Meche).
the max Posted July 31, 2004 Author Report Posted July 31, 2004 MARLINS TRADE ABRAHAM NUNEZ TO THE ROYALS FOR RUDY SEANEZ~!!!!!!!!! Sorry, just trying to get excited. There's nothing going on.
Bruiser Chong Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 ESPN was talking a little bit ago about the Cubs trying to secure Cabrera from the Expos and then trade him and Clement to the Sox for Nomar. Could be an interesting turn of events.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Wow, that was a whole lot of nothing.
Bruiser Chong Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Finley to the Dodgers. Should be interesting how they handle Milton Bradley, since Finley will only play center.
the max Posted July 31, 2004 Author Report Posted July 31, 2004 Geez, this year sucked. There'd better be a blockbuster that hasn't been reported yet.
Bored Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Charles Johnson has apparantly rejected the trade to the Dodgers.
Crimson G Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Bobby Ayala Al, you are never to speak this word of curse again. That goes for the rest of you, too. In no way are you to relate that he was ever worthy of any respect. He belongs in the gutter with guys like Jeff Cirillo. Also, the M's did make a trade to get rid of the greatest pinch-hitter (if not ever, then the best one the M's ever had) Dave Hansen for some no-name, AAA pitching prospect from the Padres.
Bruiser Chong Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Charles Johnson has apparantly rejected the trade to the Dodgers. He probably doesn't want to leave the friendly confines of Coors Field, especially considering what his offensive numbers would look like if he were to do so.
razazteca Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 So did anybody crossover to the other league besides Victor Zambrano and Steve Finley?
the max Posted July 31, 2004 Author Report Posted July 31, 2004 So did anybody crossover to the other league besides Victor Zambrano and Steve Finley? Finley's in the same league.
Bored Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Finley didn't switch leagues or even divisions for that matter. Of course this isn't the true deadline. Still plenty of lower level deals between now and the August 31st waiver deadline can happen.
DerangedHermit Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 So did anybody crossover to the other league besides Victor Zambrano and Steve Finley? Abrham Nunez..........oooooooooooooooooooh.
the pinjockey Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Well according to Jim Bowden on ESPNews, the Marlins were winners adding LoDuca, Mota, and Encarnacion (not bothering to mention how much they had to give up) and the Mets were big winners adding "two pitchers, in their primes who are only going to get better". Please help me here, if you are in your prime right now, can you get better? I thought your prime was your peak. And he didn't bother mentioning they gave up about 75% of their farm system in those deals.
Bored Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 There seems to be this weird myth among ESPN's "experts" that Encarnacion is a good offensive player and I can't really figure out why. BREAKING NEWS: Esteban Loaiza traded to the Yankees for Jose Contreras...interesting.
the pinjockey Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Contreras-Loaiza deal between CHW and NYY.
the pinjockey Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 ESPNews reports Nomar headed to the Cubs in a 4 team deal.
Bruiser Chong Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 It's being reported that Contreras to the White Sox for Loiaza. And it's official. Nomar is going to the Cubs in a four-team trade.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 don't worry, ESPN is the world's leading sports network, they'll get us the details. oh wait, the're showing FISHING
the max Posted July 31, 2004 Author Report Posted July 31, 2004 Sad that I have to watch ESPNNEWS to see details.
the pinjockey Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 That is what I was wondering about. I looked in the TV guide program thinking they would do the normal BBTN trade deadline special. Thankfully got around to getting the digital with ESPNews.
the pinjockey Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 I am just waiting for a rumor to trickle in that Polanco was traded. I don't see any other reason he was pulled in the 9th after being put in the game in the 8th today. Plus I just want him freaking gone.
DerangedHermit Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 I heard that with that 4-way trade that the BoSox got Cabrera, Clement and Mientkiewcz for Lowe and Nomar. So far I only know this: BoSox get: Clement, Mientkiewcz, Cabrera Cubs get: Nomar Twins get: Lowe
