The deal is Todd Jones and Brad Correll for Anderson Machado and Ryan Hancock. Hancock I like but pitching prospects are expendable outside the big two. Machado doesn't look like he'll amount to much at this point, and the Phillies have Danny Gonzalez and Carlos Rodriguez at the lower levels, so they needed to make room. Jones is a step above Hernandez at least.

If that rumor--yes I know it was a rumor--had been true and there was a guarantee he'd resign I'd have had no problems sending the aptly named JJ PUTZ to KC for Sweeney. Yankee Stadium, it ruins Mariner pitchers for life (Putz, Meche).

Wow, that was a whole lot of nothing.

Al, you are never to speak this word of curse again. That goes for the rest of you, too. In no way are you to relate that he was ever worthy of any respect. He belongs in the gutter with guys like Jeff Cirillo.

Also, the M's did make a trade to get rid of the greatest pinch-hitter (if not ever, then the best one the M's ever had) Dave Hansen for some no-name, AAA pitching prospect from the Padres.

Charles Johnson has apparantly rejected the trade to the Dodgers.

He probably doesn't want to leave the friendly confines of Coors Field, especially considering what his offensive numbers would look like if he were to do so.

Finley didn't switch leagues or even divisions for that matter.

Of course this isn't the true deadline. Still plenty of lower level deals between now and the August 31st waiver deadline can happen.

Well according to Jim Bowden on ESPNews, the Marlins were winners adding LoDuca, Mota, and Encarnacion (not bothering to mention how much they had to give up) and the Mets were big winners adding "two pitchers, in their primes who are only going to get better". Please help me here, if you are in your prime right now, can you get better? I thought your prime was your peak. And he didn't bother mentioning they gave up about 75% of their farm system in those deals.

There seems to be this weird myth among ESPN's "experts" that Encarnacion is a good offensive player and I can't really figure out why.

BREAKING NEWS: Esteban Loaiza traded to the Yankees for Jose Contreras...interesting.
