MrRant Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 Read the full story here: http://msnbc.msn.com/id/5499892/ But troopers would later say Petterson was distracted by more than just a soda can. They say he was watching a DVD. Assistant District Attorney June Stein said his passenger even admitted it to his ex-wife. "Jonathon Douglas called his ex-wife from the hospital and she'll tell you Jonathon Douglas told her the accident happened, 'We were zoned out, we were watching the DVD,'" Stein told the jury. More detailed story here: http://www.anchoragepress.com/newar...yvol12ed44.html Although Petterson has denied the DVD player was playing, troopers say they pieced together a conflicting account from Douglas, his passenger, who spoke to his ex-wife shortly after the accident. According to troopers, Marty Zoda, Douglas' former wife, said that Douglas called her and told her he was “zoned out on the TV-DVD deal that Jamie has in his truck, and the next thing he knew Jamie said, 'Oh ****,' and they hit a car.” Why would they let people put a DVD player in the front seat?
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 are we giving people too much credit in assuming they can keep themselves from watching TV while driving? really?
kkktookmybabyaway Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 But yet government is coming up with law preventing people from talking on cell phones while driving. Oooook...
Guest combat_rock Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 People definetly should not watch DVDs while driving. That's just stupid. But honestly, if you outlaw that, and cell phone talking; how long untill listening to music and drinking (not alcohol) is also outlawed? It's a slippery slope, I tell ya.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 Hell, I want to outlaw children in vehicles. How many times have you almost been hit by a soccer mom driving a van/SUV who was turned around in her seat screaming at her brats?...
Guest combat_rock Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 Well, they do need to be able to transport them. maybe they should require that children be seated out of reach of the parent. That way if they shit themself, tough luck. You're waiting till you get there. That'll teach you to have kids...
kkktookmybabyaway Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 Just transport them like livestock. Problem solved...
Black Lushus Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 the whole concept of watching a DVD while driving is silly from the standpoint of why one needs to see a movie that badly that they just can't wait til they get home to watch it...I can understand having it in the back for kids but adults don't need that kinda shit...fucking lame...
Guest combat_rock Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 Unless it's porn. There was actually a story on the local news here about some soccer mom that was horrified because her and her family drove up beside some guys watching porn in their in dash DVD player. So that's a good use, pissing off soccer moms.
TheBigSwigg Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 You would have to assume shit like this would happen when people put DVD players in dashboards. The only place I could think it would be beneficial would be in places like L.A., where you're stuck in traffic for hours. But even then I question the common sense of people who have them.
The Mandarin Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 "You can do it, Free Willy! Jump! Jump to your freedom! Ju---oh, shit!" *swerve* *crash* What a tool.
Gert T Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 You guys are out of your mind, how could watching a TV screen hurt you while you're driving. And I'm sure it was spur of the moment, but why would this guy even lie about it, I can't imagine he would get more time because of that.
Guest croweater Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 He clearly didn't want to admit that he was a complete dumbass. Evolution was meant to kill this man.
