CZW on PPV

Recommended Posts

CZW has announced that they will have their first one hour PPV on September 2, with a PPV designed to introduce people to CZW. Their 9/11 show will now actually be two shows - an afternoon card and an evening card. The evening card will be their first PPV show taping. The previously-announced IWS four way match will take place on the evening card.

What do you think about CZW on PPV and the two cards they are running on 9/11?

Honestly, I hope it pays off for them, but if they pull anything like they did when they were going to air their last PPV, then I'll be the first one to laugh. And hopefully they'll pay everyone they say they're going to pay who's gonna be featured on the PPV (if they plan to pay them...I don't know what the logistics are and if people are usualy paid for being featured on a taped PPV, but since it's apparently gonna be full matches, I don't know why they shouldn't be.) and not give the cold shoulder to someone like Terry Funk.

That was quite a while ago and seems like a fairly different situation. CZW is far more solidly based than 3 years ago and doesn't seem to have nay plans for 'big non regular names' (ala Terry Funk) to sell this show on.

For someone who was a big repeater of the 'ignore what XPW has done in the past, look at the greatness of what they do now' you sure seem unwilling to forget about other promotions mistakes (ones which many people don't remember /know about anyway because it was a while back)

I don't think CZW now is near as good as it was in 2001-2003. While the juniors and the tags are usually pretty solid, they have zero imagination for storylines.

You know YnA, I would have to agree with you 100% on this. I like CZW, I really do, but the storylines seem to be basically nonexistant. Too bad too as they do have decent talent and they have a following. I am really wondering if a PPV venture like this would hurt or help the company.

This is laughable. Yeah, they have some fun guys like Shelley and Quance now, but the creative direction is terrible, attendances are nowhere near what they once were, etc. It's not like CZW is riding some huge wave of momentum into PPV. This sounds like the first nail to me.

You missed my point.

I wasn't talking about the overall product in terms of storylines or anything. I was saying that their situation now compared to their situation when they initially suggested a PPV is very different. Whilst they still have their flaws (although hopefully this new booked might spell a change for the 'crappy storylines' criticism) their situation in terms of wide reaching fanbase and knowledge of the company, plus resources at their disposal (and again, I'm not talking wrestlers) is different.

I'm not making them out to be more than they are or anything, I'm not entirely sure this idea is for the best myself. However, to compare this PPV venture to the previous one is laughable.

Ya, they had the help of a major Japanese promotion like Big Japan and also ADV Films to help them out last time and yet they still couldn't deliver. This time all they have is XEG and that's about it. And plus, back then, Zandig had his mind on business and was really focused. Anyone who works with him now will tell you that's not the case anymore. They got a lot of stuff going against them. I did say I hope it pays off for them, but judging by the past, I don't think it will.

CZW is running a PPV taping up against ROH? I don't know how smart that is...

IIRC the ppv was setup when zandig and beater did a run in on a onita Vs fake onita match in japan.

Funk couldn't do it. Onita wouldn't do a PPV without Funk.

Actually, according to an interview with Funk by none other than Eric Gargiulo, Funk had EVERY intention of doing the match until he found out CZW wasn't going to pay him.

I've never seen any CZW. I'm not sure I want to. If it's 10 bucks or less should I give it a shot?

Wait for the lineup.

The UV/Garbage stuff that puts so many people off is now a far more minor part of the fed and the focus is more on the wrestling which is getting to be real good with the roster they've got.

However, they focus more on the hardcore in the PPV so it's up to you if you like that style

Uh, ok...and how does this differ from what I said? Funk couldn't do the show...thus, Onita wouldn't. Thus, PPV scrapped.

Ummm, seeing as how the reason Funk couldn't do the PPV was because CZW didn't pay him, that kinda supports what I had been saying all along...
