Brock Lesnar causing havoc in scrimmage

Ever get the feeling that Haurd throws balls that hit the goal post and then says, "I thought...I thought you were going to do one of these *makes hand gesture for post pattern*...good route."

 

And yes, Brock looks like he wants to eat Haurd's head for dinner.

 

If he learns, the Vikings are going to be laughing their asses off grabbing a man with this much intensity.

Hey at least Lesnar will still hopefully be on the Vikes' roster Sept. 2 when they come to play the Hawks, the 'Battle Of the Brocks' should be interesting.

I think this has been blown out of proportion, but if Brock does play some this year, it will be intresting to see how brutal the O-Linemen are on him. You would think that with Brock lining up against them, they would be detirmined not to lose a battle against a former wrestler, especially the struggling lines, like the Giants. Also, he might develop a reputation among the leauge due to this, and as a result face a sort of "hazing" from opposition teams, like late hits and the like.

Brock could become one of the gnarliest O-line guys in the league. He is a psychotic athlete who will do everything he can to become the best at whatever he does. He will probably study film like mad every day and train like a man with everything to lose. He'll have a reckless abandonment for everyone around him and he'll probably never marry because of it. This guy could become the next real deal (excuse the pun).

Being from the part of the world where football is played with your feet this is kinda confusing to me.

* There is no written rule that says "Stay off the quarterbacks".

* There is a mutual silent agreement that both teams should leave each others QBs alone anyway because they are such an important part of the team so they must not be hurt.

Seeing as how you might be confused by all this, I'll clarify for you.

Yes and no. In intrasquad scrimmages, which are used primarily for pre-season training purposes, you don't want anyone getting hurt. Ideally, you wouldn't want ANYONE hurt at all going into the season, since that puts a team at a competitive disadvantage, so that would be the unwritten rule. QBs are an integral part to any offense, and so losing one could lead you to failure (Michael Vick) or even pave the way for a backup to huge success (Kurt Warner story in `99). So that would be the unwritten understanding, but Brock is out to impress so I can definitely understand why he's out there playing at full speed, full intensity.

 

Considering these are the Vikings and they've already got someone like Chris Hovan playing on their D-Line, I can imagine that they could only be happy with Brock's willingness to go all-out, and quite frankly I would be too, as a coach. I'd love to see him go against a real starting lineman though, and see how well he does. Clifton, Wahle, Flanagan, Rivera, and Tauscher will turn this guy into pancake.

Yes and no. The rules on unnecessary roughness and whatnot against quarterbacks have been tweaked in recent years, but you ARE allowed to hit the quarterback.

Everytime I read this thread, I think of the part in Necessary Roughness where the second-string QB is in the game cowering behind the ref and yelling "BLOW THE WHISTLE! BLOW THE WHISTLE!"

 

 

That Brock-Huard photo certainly backs up that viewpoint for me.

As long as it's carefully or while he's running. They seem to ignore all of it once they pass the line of scrimmage.

There really was quite a feud there though, especially after the game where Darren Sharper intercepted a pass in the endzone at the end of the game which would have been it right then and there but Sharper decided to try to take it across the field all the way again, and thus where the huge brawl erupted at the end with Hovan in Favre's face and Sherman and Tice getting all up in they grill.

Considering the Vikings and Packers have EXACTLY a .500 record against each other, and that they play each other twice and sometimes more if you include playoffs, that should come as no surprise. Minnesota has rarely ever beaten Green Bay when it counts, minus the one awesome season of 1998.

 

Although I'll give the Viqueens credit for putting the Pack at a severe disadvantage, standings-wise and psychologically, by storming into Lambeau Field Week one last year and shredding them. They got their just due, however (OMG NO JOSH MCCOWN!!!!)
