Please help with Virus/Pop-Up/Adware...

Recommended Posts

I just bought a new HP in Jan 2004.

I got the best Buy 3 year service plan and had Norton AntiVirus installed in the store.

However, I just did a virus check and i've apprently got 41 viruses. My startup (home) page has been changed (by this Adware shit), pop-ups galore, comp. is running and freezing slowly...

Please gimme some help.

I am not fucking paying to have anything removed. Their service plan was like 300 bones for 3 years, I called Best Buy today only for them to tell me I had to have the anti-virus software company help me. I'm pissed off and unsure what to do.

UPDATE: I just downloaded a 15-day version of "StopZilla"...which seems to be holding back the pop-ups and maintaining my webpage. Still...only 15 days...anything else work permanently so easily?

Also, need help removing the Viruses and Adware...

-Ad Aware

-Spybot: Search and destroy

google "virus scan" and go to the trend macro site to get rid of the viruses

after they're all gone, get

-spyware guard and

-Zone Alarm

Well, if anything breaks on my PC, it's insured, and BB will replace it. May not be worth the cash, I guess, but the parents insisted, since they bought the thing anyway, so don't laugh at me. Plus, I do a lot of travelling, moving, and drunk shit on my computer, so the chances of something breaking could be high.

I hope you never have to try that out. Trust me, there is a clause that will allow them not to replace your stuff.

Really? There are ways that BB (or some other major retailer) won't replace your purchase, even though that's what they say when they pimp these warranties non-stop to you?

Next thing you know you'll tell me John Kerry served in Vietnam...

Now, why in the world would you even think for a moment that virus removal would be covered by Best Buy's service plan? Nobody's service covers that! How is it Best Buy's fault if you go surfing the internet and load a virus onto your system? That's just dumb.

Now if your hard drive fails, mother board, cr rom, etc... that's covered as well as it should be. It covers your hardware and they will replace it. Unless of course you happen to be one of the fools that go jogging with their I-Pod and drop it in a puddle of water and think it should be replaced; that won't happen.

Funny enough, when I bought my last computer the Best Buy pimp said their Ultra-Service-Plan-2004 covers virus infections. I didn't have the heart to laugh in his face because I don't think he even believed what he was saying...

Aye, I have been doing my best to make sure the sales people are well informed. It's a hard struggle, believe me, but all of us techs are working on them. As we have to constantly deal with people and their service plans, and they just say whatever and sell them, never to deal with that customer again.

Back up data and do a clean install.

Essentail things you need are a anit virus cleaner, spybot search and destroy and spy sweeper should clean things up.
