Back From The Dead...

Recommended Posts

Which is kinda the point of this Jobber. This will give them the chance if they wish to build up Ash (Campbell) as a big star just from using him in a series that they know people will go to see.

No one needs to know who Ash is, you'll get the geek boys who want to see Ash and everyone else will just think he's this bad ass with one liners and a chainsaw.

Believe it or not, a lot of people are well aware of Campbell and the character of Ash. Heavy hardcore horror fans will flock to see him return, oddly enough.

The plot sounds ok....cept this part confuses me: They top the team with Ash, who needs the money to fund his trip to destroy the book of the dead. Freddy realises Ash has the necronomicon in his dreams, so he has to get into Ash's mind

a) Ash doesn't care about the book, he just wants to be left alone. Granted, he is always forced into the situation but he never really made an effort to destroy the book.

The book being destroyed means Ashley will be left alone, so he has a selfish interest in destroying the book.

As the articles said, the movie will give a quick backstory of Ash. Ash carries a chainsaw and rifle and he has good one-liners, so I doubt it will be hard to get him over.

Very stupid and pointless. No one knows about Ash or ED a few people saw AOD and that was a massive failure.

Why not just throw in Myers or Leathrface?Aren't they on New Line?

Have you ever BEEN to a Horror convention? Bruce Campbell packs them in more than Robert Engluand and Kane Hodder COMBINED.

Hell, you could toss in the man behind Pinhead and Michael Myers and they don't touch Campbell.

He may not be huge mainstream but among the horror fan world, few will top him. There is a good reason why even today Raimi, a director of massive recognition now STILL gets asked if he'll do Evil Dead 4.

The horror geeks would shoot you in the face for talk like that. Ash has probably one of the biggest cult followings ever. When you go to a Christian school, on a Christian campus where we can't see R-rated movies during the semester, and even WE reference Evil Dead and Army of Darkness all the time, you know there's quite a following.

Ash is just a brilliant concept. He's the epitome of the hero cliche, but dumber than frickin' DIRT. And it's a beautiful thing on screen, every time out of the gate. I sincerely hope he gets to trade one-liners with Freddy.

Nothing I can't say that you all haven't already said, so let me just say that I would enjoy seeing this movie. And I don't give a shit if Ash won't bring in the big bucks since he just has a cult following seeing as I'm not involved with this film in any way, and don't plan on making a profit from it once it is released.

Why is it such a big deal if this movie uses a character that has a strong following, but who happens to fly beneath the mainstream radar? Jason and Freddy are already bringing in the mainstream fans, so why not use a character that's not as well known to them. Besides why does the movie have to cater solely to the mainstream fans, when it can appease them and the cult fans all at the same time.

Ash is a type of character that can go over well with mainstream fans, so it's worth the risk of using a cult favorite.

Best part being is that the last thing on his mind is being a hero. He just wants that damn book to leave him alone.

Honestly, why do you guys think Evil Dead is still strictly a cult thing?

They made a freaking VIDEO GAME of Evil Dead. That's pretty mainstream when they take a 20 year old movie and just randomly make a video game of it with Bruce Campell providing voice narration.

Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness have sold a TON on DVD's. I guarantee they've made back their budget in DVD sales. Army of Darkness sold enough to where they released a totally different directors cut DVD, and now sell them together, and Evil Dead 2 is easily one of the best selling horror DVDs of all time.

Army of Darkness is shown on Sci-Fi once or twice a month. After Spiderman got so huge, I'm sure most people looked at Raimis past work and at least acknowledged the fact that the Evil Dead trilogy exists. I haven't met anybody who hasn't seen it. Duke Nukem which is hugely popular stole all his one liners from Ash.

It may not be as huge as Freddy or Jason individually, but people know Evil Dead in general. They might not know Ash by name, but when they see him they probably reconigze it's the guy with the chainsaw on his hand who invented the whole "give me some suger baby" and "come get some" lines.

I think the mainstream fans will love the Ash character. After all, he isn't some teenybopper who runs screaming from everything supernatural. Ash can actually defend himself if he needs to.

I wish the title would simply be Freddy Vs. Jason: The Evil dead. I also think it would be insanely cool if it opened on Ash Wednesday. :P

Either way, I am finally starting to feel good about this movie actually being made, instead of just an idea. I also don't think it's fair to say that the ED series is just a cult thing, as I know a lot of people who know of the films and have seen them, who aren't the type of people that would have years ago.

What a great poster that is. I'd actually believe that was the real poster.

Why not have Ash involved? People have likely at least heard of Evil Dead before, and while the name Ash might not get instant recognition I think people would buy into Bruce Campbell without much trouble.

Not to mention he carries a chainsaw and has good one liners...he has the tools to be a mainstream star.

Some in this thread have overstated the cult status of ED, but it can't be denied that it's still a cult film. It may be closer to the mainstream than many would think, but it still needs something like this movie to move it into the mainstream.

Chalk me up as someone who couldn't care less about who the fuck ASH (Ketchum) or what movie Evil Dead is.

Well, actually, you do care, since you took the 37 seconds out of your life to post it. Fucker.

Also, I'll try to dig up the old post with the possible "teaser trailer" idea I came up with. I remember a few people digging that.

A few people are saying this plot makes no sense. How? Freddy and Jason are still in combat, and Freddy is possessing people in order to try to kill Jason, but it's not working. They hire a team, and the team just happens to be lead by Ash (since, even in the video games, it's been made known that Ash knows a lot about the Necronomicon and whatnot), and the three tie up that way. You want a movie plot that DOESN'T make sense? Citizen Toxie. Although that's Troma for ya.

So maybe in the movie Ash has magic added to his arsenal? :)

37 seconds isn't too much time to waste, it was during a commercial break for Poltergeist. They should just stick with a F v. J without anyone else. It would be to messy, and I still don't know who ASH is. Maybe they should stick the Wolfman or Swamp Thing. Classic Horror Creatures versus Classic Horror Icons. Of course, it would be lop sided since F & J can just slice them apart with whatever they have their hands on, so thats a bad idea.

And what is Evil Dead about? Just because it has a cult following doesn't mean everyone knows it's story or whatever. Besides, Freddy is king of the one-liners, so another character being like him wouldn't be the best thing to do.

And I apologize for that snappy comment. I think I've been cursed with snakes. Until two weeks ago I've never seen any. Now they are all over the place. Thats what I get for some jackass chopping down some woods to build the foundation of some shitty office building thats going to fail in about a month.

Freddy's good with the one liners. Definitely the best when it comes to horror movie villains.

But Ash? Half of Ash's dialogue is one liners. And 98% of them work completely. Ash is the perfect foil for Freddy. Freddy'd finally meet someone who is both a threat physically and a threat verbally. Which would be really interesting.

You don't know who Ash is? Fine. Go rent EVIL DEAD, EVIL DEAD II, and ARMY OF DARKNESS and introduce yourself to him. It's more than worth the rental fee.

Let's see. Mainstream people tend to go for Teh Kewl Heroxor~!

Ash is:

Witty. Fantastic one liners. He owns the cliche and forces it to bow down to him.

Has a CHAINSAW FOR A HAND.

Carries a sawed off Shotgun strapped to his back.

I think he'd fill out the position for the brainless masses nicely, while still bringing in the geeks. Showcase Ash in the trailer and he'll be a draw.

Personally, I'd love to see just what kind of nightmares Freddy would weave inside Ash's dream. I'd imagine there would be many, many Deadites.

There have been moments in my life where I have felt a shock of euphoria that has defined the way I look at life. There has been the time I discovered my calling as a writer, that time I went through puberty, and that time where something life-changing happened.

This trumps them all. I think that goes without saying.

Now you better not mess this up or there. will. be. PAIN.

A chainsaw for a hand will definitely will counter any finger blades of Freddy. That reminds me...throw in Edward Scissorhands! Knife fight with Freddy by using their fingers...orwhatever they use as a finger.

Now I must get a credit card to rent videos since my local store went out of business this week.

So you would prefer Freddy vs Jason 2 without Ash and with generic teenager #464 to fill the role instead? FvJ2 is going to have a human lead role anyways, and if they don't use Ash, you'll have to get introduced to a brand new character instead. Why not use Ash then?

Ash doesn't necissarily have the chainsaw hand. Remember, they gave him the metal one in AoD. He still has the attachment, probably, but the chainsaw isn't definate

Saying Ash wouldn't bring in more crowds than the first movie did is ludicrous, considering 1) horror movie fans are the ones that are going to primarily see this, and 2) horror fans, in general, prefer Evil Dead and its sequels over the generic slash-n'-gash of Nightmare or Friday.

Looking over my DVD Collection....Ivan Drago from Rocky IV! Seriously, I wouldn't know what third wheel to put into the FvJ sequel, unless they want another non talking mongoloid zombie psycho like Michael Myers, or maybe the evil Leprechaun.

OK, I'll just dumb myself down some more. If this does happen, how are they going to introduce Ash? The first one where Freddy brought Jason back from the dead was kinda iffy, and this I don't know how it will be done.

Go watch the Evil Dead series untill you start bitchin, please. If you do that, then you'll see how it could work...very easily.

If you don't know the character, the story, the movies, then as far as I'm concerned you have no idea what you are bitching over in the first place.
