Backlund FINALLY got in?! Or am I reading wrong...

Nice to see Undertaker & Ultimo get voted in too.

He's only been a "pro" wrestler (on screen) for barely 5 years, and he's been injured so much it's hard to tell how much of that time was on the preverbial "DL" of wrestling.

Nice to see Sting & Curt Hennig get absolutely no love just about as well as L.A. Park (la parka) and The Great Sasuke.

Angle was one of the weakest candidates on the ballot and got more votes than almost anyone. It's ridiculous. Even Lex Luger (who hasn't been nominated) has a stronger HOF case than Kurt Angle.

The only advantage that Angle would have over anyone would be his amateur career....but ummmm.......that would make absolutely no sense.

What are the rules regarding the WON HOF??

Who would vote for Angle? Is it just people who believe everything Meltzer says when he constantly sucks his dick?

I'm pissed about La Parka not making it, and there's no way Gorilla Monsoon isn't making it in by next year.

Kurt Angle got in by his extraordinary athletic skill and his potential. But that potential was never tapped into because he never was a top-card guy. There was so much more he could have done that would have made him a strong HOF inductee. I'm happy he made it in because he's one of my favourites currently, but those against him do have a strong case.

I'll have to agree on the "Believe anything Meltzer says" theory. Just realized Eddie Guerrero isn't even close to being inducted....(head bursts in anger)

I don't know about Luger............

Luger's not a HOFer. Nowhere close. But Luger was a bigger draw and had more main event longevity than Angle.

Meltzer has strangely never set any criteria. The only qualifications to be nominated are that the wrestler either be 35 years old or have 15 years of experience in the business. People in the business, and people Meltzer knows whose opinions he trusts, vote on the HOF.

Of course, Dave is incredibly aloof these days and know-littles like Todd Martin end up getting a ballot.

They seem to think that Angle at his peak, even if it was short, was the best worker in history, or one of the top handful. I know that's ridiculous, but that's Dave for ya.

How strange that Angle gets in before Eddie. Hell, I find it strange that Triple H didn't get in.

Question: Will Jericho get it in his first year?

Jericho is not a strong candidate, unless he ends up winning the world title and creating an Austin-like boom in the next 12 months.

Yeah, supposedly, you're looking at the whole, not the sum of the parts. Someone like Andre the Giant who wasn't a great worker was a great draw, so he gets in. Benoit hasn't been a great draw, but has been a top-five worker for over 10 years, so he gets in.

As far as people getting voted in because Meltzer loves them, there are a lot of people on that list that Meltzer HATES, such as Hogan, Dusty Rhodes, Undertaker and to a lesser extent Vince Jr. And Dave HATES Backlund with a passion, probably more than any other wrestler (with the possible exception of Hogan) There is no way Dave would want Backlund in the Hall, but he got in.

Odd- I didn't notice The Rock's name on there.

Thanks for posting that Loss

The Rock isn't of age to be nominated yet.

And he doesn't have the option of 15 years experience. Anyway, he was 27 in 1998 I think, so by 2006 he should be a nominee.

With that aside, people wouldn't take Meltzer seriously at all if those names weren't in. Not that they do in the first place.....but there are people that would affect. Thus the reason why he wouldn't do it.

To be fair, Meltzer is not the only person who votes, but his words are largely influential. Angle wouldn't have gotten in without his pimping.

Lex Lugar was not anywhere near the draw of Angle. Like Angle, he was never really the main focus of a promotion, but Angle was a top/near the top guy in some of the most profitable years in histroy (2000-today) I don't think he's a HOF'er yet, but please, comparing him to Lugar is the joke.

Kido, true, but I almost thought that Dave was trying to run a campaign to keep Backlund OUT. Meltzer has personally attacked Bob, basically calling him an illiterate bumpkin. IMO, he has tried to humiliate Backlund, by constantly mentioning that Bob couldn't read or write unil he was over 40 yrs. old. I don't know what Backlund did to Dave, but Meltzer seems to have something personal against him. It's one thing to call a guy an overrated worker, but to basically call him a moron over and over again, for years on end, is a bit far. If the voters only voted the way Dave wanted, Backlund would have never got in. So maybe they voted Angle in because they thought he was great for a short period of time, like Sandy Koufax in baseball

Luger was in main events on and off for over 10 years. Angle hasn't even been in the business that long. Neither deserves entry, or even consideration, as I said, but Angle is no stronger a candidate as a draw or in terms of influence.

I agree with you. I wasn't speaking of Backlund and I have no clue what their beef is, but I am a person that doesn't think that Backlund was overrated and I think he should be in there. Basically what I am saying is that Dave's voice only goes so far.....after that though......he will have to give it up and put Backlund in anyway....which he did.

In terms of influence, Angle and his success has lead to Lesnar, Benjamin and Haas getting looks and subsequently jobs. Right there, that's more than Luger. I'd also be willing to bet that from '00-04, Angle in his various main events with Austin, Rock, Triple H, 'Taker and Lesnar drew more money than Luger did in his entire career. I'm sure if I dig out some old Observers, the business comparisons for the last few years will bear this out. Keep in mind, I absolutely wouldn't have put Angle in yet, but to dismiss him so quickly and call him a joke and liken him to Lex Luger is going way too far. To me, he's a mid-level candidate that needs another 2-3 productive years to have made it. Obviously the voters disagreed.
