THE CHAMP'S CONDITION

August 19th, 2004

JBL said he would defeat the Undertaker at SummerSlam, and he did just that. However, the WWE Champion did not pin the Deadman's shoulders to the mat. Rather, he picked up the win via disqualification. After the match, an enraged Undertaker destroyed JBL, highlighted by an amazing chokeslam through the roof of the champ's limo. The action resulted in JBL be carted out of the SummerSlam arena on a stretcher.

This week on SmackDown!, learn about the condition of the WWE Champion after being decimated by the Deadman at SummerSlam.

Also, the Cruiserweight Championship will be on the line as Spike Dudley puts the gold on the line against former friend Scotty 2 Hotty. Spike has been on a roll of late, but Scotty has made this rivalry personal. Which great cruiserweight will come out on top? Tune in to SmackDown! to find out.

In addition, it has been learned that SmackDown! General Manager Theodore Long has a big announcement to make this week. What can it be?

All this and more this week on SmackDown! on UPN at 8/7 CT.

I personally haven't watched Smckdown in months, but maybe the rest of you would care to discuss. *shrug*

Long's announcment:

The return of the Big Show

I haven't watched it either...

a question for those that do still watch it regularly: Is it any better now than it was 3 months ago? Should those of us that stopped watching it, give it another try?

Tune in at least to catch Chavo/Knoble vs. Kidman/London. The ME should be decent, too. I'll be watching (although not necessarily commenting in here at the same time).

IMO, it's been better than it was 3 months ago. I think the 3 (or so) shows leading up to Slam were the best SD shows since WMXX. The cruisers are getting time, they've cleaned up some crap (i.e Mordecai back to OVW). However, they're bringing Heidenreich back, and it looks like Spike & Scotty are going to feud, and Suzuki is still around, so there's still a bit of suck on the show.

Eh, thats not anything new. Even when the show was smoking with the Smackdown 6, we still had to put up with crap...

I might catch it if I find some time tonight

It's better, but only by a slight margin. There is a bit of an aura of unpredictability, and JBL's promos are more entertaining. The only way one would know if they enjoy it more is if they watch it and judge for themselves. I'd go out on a limb and guess that if you stopped watching 3 months ago, nothing on the show now will do anything for you.

Well, I stopped watching it not out of PURE disgust, but because I found that I have better things to do than to watch something that just didn't do anything for me. But I'd be willing to watch it again if the thing at least had some fucking direction...

And I feel almost ashamed to say this, but I kind of like Bradshaw. I have no idea why really, but the Lou Thesz-ish towel around the neck, tucked into the vest look is something I mark for lol

I actually found the shows leading up to Slam to be more enjoyable than the Raw's leading up. For me, I find the undercard on SD to be more enjoyable than Raw's, while the Raw ME scene surpasses SD, so there's always something for me on each show. It also helps that a lot of my favorite guys are on SD.

It's definitely an acquired taste. I'm just hoping that future SD undercard matches can be as good as recent matches. It definitely helps with guys like Eddie, Rey, RVD, and even Booker are on the show.

It looks like there's some direction to the show:

-they look to be doing something w/ the cruiser belt, although it took a Spike heel turn to do it. Plus, I'm not looking forward to a Spike/Scotty feud, but at least it could be called "direction".

-the US Title has the Book/Cena best-of-5 series. I've dug the stuff between these 2, although a lot of other people haven't.

-the tag belts are being used, with the bonus of getting Paul London on TV almost every week. Possibility of a Chavo/Knoble vs. London/Kidman feud based off their match from this SD, which should be all kinds of awesome.

-looks like they're sticking w/ JBL as a long-term champ.

-Eddie/Angle feud
