Guest jerniebert Report post Posted August 21, 2004 Maybe the Southern California crowds are dead, but I know everytime they come to Fresno the crowds have been very vocal. Last time they were here Eddy had a good 5 minute standing ovation after he won the world title. The crowd was hot through out the show. It wasn't a sell out, but the crowd that was there was very vocal. Even Rhyno had a strong chant going.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2004 Anywhere in California is usually a bad crowd...it's been like that for years. Los Angeles and Anahiem are two citys that usually aren't hot for shows. Once fully seated, No Way Out's crowd in SF was really rockin'. Only problem was by the time the snaking line outside got to us the show was half over and the building only half full.

Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2004 I think the problem is the WWE runs certain areas way to often. They should go to some lesser traveled areas more often for a while, so places like California and New York actually appreciate when they come.
Slickster 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2004 Problem with running less-traveled areas is that it makes you look bush league. I mean, if a major promotion's flagship show was held in Burlington, VT or Omaha, NE you'd probably think less of them cause 'they couldn't afford a bigger place.' Well, the WWE did TV and PPV in the above two cities for many years. To go back to that level now would seem like a step down.

If we're talking Madison Square Garden, thats WWE's home just about. Also they were a pretty smart crowd for Wrestlemania when they sent Goldberg & Brock away with chorus' of boos. They should go to some lesser traveled areas more often for a while, so places like California and New York actually appreciate when they come. Seems like they're constantly going to Canada, the south, Texas, etc. I'm only not going to the upcoming SF/Sac-town shows because I don't care to watch JBL's title reign or the Lita/Kane saga. And I generally try to go to every televised event I can. New York is their backyard so they run shows often there for that reason, I suspect. Also, they've been introducing a lot of guys that I guess we should call "experimental" (Orton, Cena, etc) and if you can't get over in NYC, you simply aren't going to get over. Omaha is a passable mid-level Midwest city, not quite a KC or St. Louis, but not as bush-league as, say, Muncie, Indiana, or Greenville, SC. I mean, Raw has run Rockford and Rock Island, Illinois, neither of which are major cities.

Only problem was by the time the snaking line outside got to us the show was half over and the building only half full. Yeah, I've never been to a show thats been down in Southern California but I do go to the shows that are in the bay area. I've been to two, The Raw in Oakland right after Austin left and The Rock made his surprise return and No Way Out. Both crowds were very good. And with the No Way Out show the crowd wasn't very vocal due to the people at the cow palace didn't start letting people in till late 4'o clock. If my friend and I hadn't cut into that long ass line (sorry jobber if you were there and we cut in front of you.), we would have missed most of the first half of the show. I know the only match the crowd wasn't basically into was the Hardcore Holly vs Rhyno match. Nobody liked Holly, we mainly popped for Rhyno. I did miss the 6 man tag with Tajiri/yang/sakoda vs Ultimo Dragon/Kidman/ and London which to my understanding was good and I also missed Sable and Torrie promoteing there playboy shoot...ok the line was did do one good thing, I'll give it that. Fro 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2004 The worst crowds have to be the Northeast (sans NYC, Boston, and Philly) since the WWE runs them every two seconds. Really dead crowds in places like Hartford and the like.
Guest theanswer1824 Report post Posted August 22, 2004 if someone were to do research from the present til about 98, major events (storyline wise in both wwf and wcw) happened in arenas like san jose and sf. i remember royal rumble 98 being huge, i went to a couple of the superbrawls in sf, i saw the first dark match between giant and goldberg at a thunder, kurt and taker interacting (where kurt comes out with the minibike) in san jose, etc. and isn't san jose's arena the place where hhh blew his wheel? hbk also during the 98 rumble? we're the only defense against the kilq. Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2004 I've been to two, The Raw in Oakland right after Austin left and The Rock made his surprise return and No Way Out. Hey, you and I both go to the same shows. Are you going to the Cow Palace show next week? Both crowds were very good. I tried to get a Boring chant going for Rhyno vs Holly, but no luck. Oh well. If my friend and I hadn't cut into that long ass line (sorry jobber if you were there and we cut in front of you.) Probably did. We did miss most of the show, but as a result the show as a whole seemed better than any other live show I went to, including Mania19, because I only saw the good matches. The cuts were very obvious, though, as the line suddently balooned into two lines at one point, with one going into the parking lot to the right of the entrance and one snaking all the way around back. I think someone was just openly letting people cut or something because it looked like two goddamn lines. Whatever the reason, the show suffered for it and I remember coming home to read skepticism that the show was really packed, and that it was just a weak excuse for the poor crowd. Must have looked horrible on TV. Part of the delay also fell on the security team at Cow Palace, which felt fit to take not only every bag of Doritos, but every umbrella on a rainy day, and no you're not getting it back. I imagine a lot of time got killed explaining to people why they were reposessing their posessions. By the time we finally got through the door, it looked as though they had given up on that. For that reason, I'm suprised Vince is doing another show again at the building this year.
