Styles Posted August 21, 2004 Report Posted August 21, 2004 To my recolection this is the first NWA-TNA gimmick to be inducted. For those of you who were not with us at the beginning and for those of us who were there, but were fortunate enough to forget, relive THE JOHNSONS! http://www.wrestlecrap.com/thejohnsons.html
Guest Staravenger Posted August 21, 2004 Report Posted August 21, 2004 Blech. Week 1 they squashed everyones favorite cowboy Rick James....I mean James Storm, and a maskless Psycosis, who looked like some punk Indy worker. Thats all I remember of them...oh yeah, and they were dressed like they were in condoms or something. The referee for the match was Slick Johnson. I honestly couldn't make this shit up.
Sideburnious Posted August 21, 2004 Report Posted August 21, 2004 Lets hope next week they will have the Dupps. I know little of them and their crapness and want to know more
Guest Staravenger Posted August 21, 2004 Report Posted August 21, 2004 Lets hope next week they will have the Dupps. I know little of them and their crapness and want to know more Bo Dupp & Stan Dupp were the wrestlers, and were managed by their cousin/girlfriend Fluff Dupp. They were hillbillies of course, and liked talking about shit. They then introduced the Dupp cup, where you won by doing certain things like goosing Borash or sticking your opponents face in a toilet. They were gone by Week 10 I think, but I'm not exactly sure.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted August 21, 2004 Report Posted August 21, 2004 Ehhhh....... this is kind of a stupid entry because TNA killed the idea after 2 appearances.
Guest Donners Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 I was just watching the announcement of the Dupp Cup a few days ago, and it got a tremendous crowd response, as did the first match. Scary.
Corey_Lazarus Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 See, here's the thing: The Dupps were fine. They were usually pretty funny backstage, especially when talking about how to get a match (I believe Stand told Bo that all he needed to do was bump into somebody, so he bumped into, I think, Monty Brown, and during the match was promptly annihilated). The first Dupp Cup wasn't too terrible, as most people say. It certainly wasn't good, and did make you question why you were watching, but it was rather funny, especially (I believe) Bo's facials when he was goosed. Also, Ed Ferrara knocking Borash ("That Kermit The Frog looking feller right thar" - Stan Dupp) the fuck out was hilarious.
Guest DonWestMark03 Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 And the funny thing is, Stan Dupp is actually an incredible wrestler -he competes for NOAH all the time. The CZWFans board treat him like the Second Coming. I really liked the couple IWA matches I saw him in, the were pretty damn good. (vs. Hero at Derby Madness '03 and vs. Punk at Revolution)
Guest Staravenger Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 Can someone explain why BO Dupp is funny? I can understand Stan Dupp and Fluff Dupp, but not Bo.
Corey_Lazarus Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 Bo Dupp is the one with the orange hunting hat, right? It's his facials and promo's that are funny. His ringwork is terrible, but his act is amusing.
Placebo Effect Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 Yeah, it's a shame that TNA went and fucked up The Dupps because, minus the toilet humor, they were pretty funny. I absolutely hated the Ed Ferrera segment, though. Just way too long. Had it been short, I probably would've actually liked it.
Guest DeathBecomesYou Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 I don't know why, but I loved the Dupps gimmick, I just found it really funny. The only thing that I didn't like was Fluff Dupp was basically a rip off of Molly Holly. I thought they could've been a bit more original with that character, but otherwise the Dupps were cool, just a bit of light hearted fun.
Guest Staravenger Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 Bo Dupp is the one with the orange hunting hat, right? It's his facials and promo's that are funny. His ringwork is terrible, but his act is amusing. No, I mean BO-Dupp. Stand Up and Fluffed Up I understand, but Boed-up doesn't quite trigger anything. And yeah, he was the entertaining one. Didn't he also wrestle for Rhode's Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling (or whatever it was called).
Guest MaskedDanger Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 "Bowed up" is a southern-ism for bent over. Usually it means bending over suddenly, often because of pain. Think having a bad stomach cramp and you bend over quickly. You "bow up." In past tense, you "bowed up." It also means to be pissed or cranky about something, in a bad mood. I think it can also mean when an object bends or warps, like a piece of wood with water damage. Oh, and to clarify, that's "bow" with the long "o," like bow and arrow.

Guest Staravenger Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 I still got an answer on why he was funny at least.

Disco and Puppet's segments were much worse than anything the Dupps did. I enjoyed their match with the Flying Elvises as well.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 Ehhhh....... this is kind of a stupid entry because TNA killed the idea after 2 appearances. You could say the same thing about half the inductees. Doesn't change the fact that they suck.
Guest Staravenger Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 I think The Rainbow Express (or whatever they called Lenny & Bruce) was pretty stupid, ESPECIALLY Bruce being Miss TNA. That was just awful.
Placebo Effect Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 I think The Rainbow Express (or whatever they called Lenny & Bruce) was pretty stupid, ESPECIALLY Bruce being Miss TNA. That was just awful. I found The Rainbow Express, minus the random placement of Gertner, perfectly acceptable. Miss TNA, however, was terrible.
Guest MikeSC Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 Ehhhh....... this is kind of a stupid entry because TNA killed the idea after 2 appearances. That's the case with LOTS of entrants. Hell, who remembers Phantasio? I watched WWF at that time and I never saw him. -=Mike
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 Ah, yes I see your point. I guess I was forgetting several of the entrants had only made a few appearances. The Rainbow Express is not wrestle crap though. The Miss. TNA stuff sucked but they worked the gimmick pretty well as a tag team.

Has the gay gimmick EVER produced good matches? -=Mike
Guest Staravenger Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 Rico/Haas had fairly good matches with the SD Teams using Ricos gay psychout. I think the gimmick is Wrestlecrap worthy based on the following. One, it's a direct rip off of Billy & Chuck just about, who debuted as a team earlier in the year (as the gay duo). The B&C version was bad, but not wrestlecrap bad. Considering they stole that idea for the RX makes it worse, and throwing in the Miss TNA storyline is the icing on the shit cake.
ChrisMWaters Posted August 22, 2004 Report Posted August 22, 2004 If I remember correctly...weren't the Dupps in ECW for a while too? I remember a team that I THINK was the Dupps talking about, on their last night in ECW, they'd become a famous brother tag team...and that's where I first heard the name "Mulkeys"

Considering they stole that idea for the RX makes it worse, and throwing in the Miss TNA storyline is the icing on the shit cake. The original Rainbow Express was Lenny Lane and Lodi in the indies in the mid-to-late 90's, before they were both signed to WCW. Lodi was actually in the first TNA appearance of the tag team, I believe, but then was either injured or had some major contract issues with TNA, and never appeared there again. So no, the Rainbow Express was NOT a ripoff of Billy & Chuck. Re: Miss TNA I will gladly, GLADLY send my tapes of early TNA shows to RD Reynolds if he promises to put this up as the next TNA induction. And yes, the Dupps were a tag team in ECW towards the end of ECW's existence. However, it was Bo and another wrestler, one that was signed by the WWF (and, I believe, is the one that The Kat was photographed having sex with), managed by their "uncle."
Guest Staravenger Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Woah, didn't know that about the Rainbow Express. WWE ripped them off for Chuck & Billy, Billy & Chuck, or whatever way you preffer to read their names! (has nightmares of Miss TNA)

Jack Dupp is the other team member, though I have no idea who the uncle was.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Yeah, the other Dupp retired after a heartattack a few years ago I believe.
