Here is what is happening today

Ben Ainslie is hoping to add to Great Britain's medal tally with sailing gold in the Finn class and is in a comfortable position in the fleet.

By contrast Nick Rogers and Joe Glanfield are struggling in the 470 class behind their American rivals.

Team GB have enjoyed a successful day on the water to date with a sweep of medals on the rowing lake.

The haul of gold, silver and bronze included a thrilling fourth Olympic title for Matthew Pinsent in the four.

The only low point on a memorable morning for Team GB came in the 100m.

Darren Campbell failed to qualify for the second round after trailing in fourth in his heat.

Shawn Crawford clocked the fastest qualifying time in the 100m, his time of 10.02 seconds eclipsing favourites Asafa Powell and Maurice Greene.

"It's the easiest 10.02 I've run in my life," Crawford said.

While Campbell, who has been struggling with injury, bowed out, compatriots Mark Lewis-Francis and Jason Gardener breezed through.

Kelly Sotherton is well positioned to claim a medal in the heptathlon this evening, although she trails Sweden's Carolina Kluft by some distance.

After five of the seven events, with the javelin and 800m to come, the Swede has an overwhelming lead of more than 329 points.

But Sotherton consolidated her advantage in second over Lithuania's Austra Skujyte after leaping to 6.51m in the long jump.

Defending champion Denise Lewis is languishing in 18th.

Other action saw Australia's Jana Pittman make a winning return after injury in her 400m hurdles heat. Russia's Yuliya Pechonkina qualified in the fastest time.

Sanya Richards of the USA set the standard in the women's 400m heats, finishing in 50.11 seconds.

On a busy morning at the rowing lake golds were spread around seven different countries with Germany, Norway, Romania, Australia, New Zealand and France winning titles.

Britain added their name to the list with victory in the last race of the morning in thrilling fashion.

Cath Bishop and Katherine Grainger, in their last outing together, stole in for silver behind a ruthless Romanian performance in the coxless pairs.

In the double sculls Sarah Winckless and Elise Laverick claimed bronze.

The sailors will be keen to emulate the achievements of the Yngling crew in winning gold on Thursday.

Ainslie can only be denied gold if he finishes 16 places or more behind second-placed Rafael Trujillo of Spain.

Rogers and Glanfield, who had been in pole position for much of the competition, need to overhaul the USA if they are to make it a hat-trick of British sailing titles.

It also promises to be an exciting day in the Velodrome where Bradley Wiggins will be going for gold in the 4,000m Individual Pursuit final against Australia's Bradley McGee.

The Olympic swimming meet finishes with the women's 50m free, Grant Hackett going in the 1500m free and the women's and men's 4x100m medley - although the USA will be without Michael Phelps, who has given up his place to team-mate Ian Crocker.

At the tennis arena the first golds will be won in the women's singles, between Belgium's Justine Henin-Hardenne and Amelie Mauresmo of France, and men's doubles.

In boxing, Thailand's world flyweight champion Somjit Jongjohor crashed out after a final round assault from Cuba's Yuriorkis Gamboa Toledano.

Germany clinched the team dressage gold medal, their sixth successive Olympic title, thanks to a superb effort by top rider Ulla Salzgeber.

Away from the action, Britain's three-day eventing team will find out whether their appeal against Germany's gold medals will be successful. A decision is expected to be announced at 1500 BST on Saturday.

Consider me really pissed off that Australia didn't qualify for the Men's medly relay.

Bunch of fucking shit putting in 2nd and 3rd string swimmers for the heats and bringing out the big gunns for the finals. It's taking a massive and unneccessary risk.

You can no doubt see that Team USA is so much more into it in this game then they have been. I think the loses have been the best thing for this team, bring them back down to Earth, and start playing team basketball.

My pops turned to the game at the end of the first half. He starts bitching how they should be up my a lot more. But he doesn't understand how good Lithuania is.

And have they played Emeka yet???

Things must be looking good for the Lithuanians then. 4-0 in the pool and they have already defeated Puerto Rico and the US. I am guessing it should be clear sailing for them until the elimination round. Both Spain and Lithuania are undefeated so far. A Spain-Lithuania basketball final would be just...odd.

Also, may I ask what's up with soccer? I figured some of the more powerhouse soccer teams would be playing it, but, looking at the quarterfinals, I don't see too many soccer powers there. There's Argentina and, to a point, Italy, but that's about it. What happened?

Well, I don't know about you guys, but the more games USA plays, the more and more I root for them. I hope they win the Gold, they are showing a shitload of effort in each game. But they have to step up on the pick and rolls, Jasikevicius killed them. LeBron James has to play more, Larry Brown is screwing that up.

The Olympics are FIFA's "Under-23 World Cup"; all the rosters are made up of junior players. Its a C-level tournament that is not taken all that seriously; Christiano Ronaldo, Portugal's best player, was basically forced to play by FIFA, he wanted to play for Manchester United in a Champions League qualifier instead. Man. U. were not pleased, to say the least.

Screw moral victories and even though Lithuania is very good, the NBA should once again be completely embarrassed by the performance of this team in the Olympics. Two losses in the history of Olympic play, two losses in this Olympics alone. Winning the Gold doesn't even salvage this Olympics now.

To be fair, teams have improved dramatically since 1992 where they were unbeatble. Lithuania is easily one of the top 3 teams right now in the Olympics.

And I disagree, if they win the Gold it's all good.

You gotta understand that in Europe there are more and more leagues, and some of the players are just as good as NBA players who just wish to stay in Europe.

The US didn't even send there best players.

If Shaq, Duncan, Kobe, Iverson and Kidd were the starting 5, there is no way they wouldn't win the gold.

Eh, the international teams today still couldn't touch the '92 team.

Probably not but there were like 10 hall of famers there. But the games might have been a bit closer than 40 point blowouts.

Did anyone see that woman from Afghanistan run the 100 yesterday? I'm all for the symbolism and everything, but it was painfully obvious she didn't belong there.

Every track event seems to have someone from a 3rd world country who finishes like 10 seconds behind the next to last finisher in the race.

To be fair, this loss shouldn't really count against them. I believe I read that Lithuania lost to the supposedly better US team by a close margin(I believe 2) at the last Olympics, so it isn't totally out of the question that Lithuania could beat a US team. In fact, considering how bad the US has played thus far, only losing by 4 to Lithuania shows improvement. Given, getting owned by Puerto Rico(A team they had easily beaten a few weeks earlier) was embarrassing, and struggling against Greece and Australia was sad, but at least this time they lost to a team that they weren't expected to beat easilt.

Of course, a team composed of some of the best players in the word playing like scrappy underdogs is absolutely hilarious to me. I am just glad that Lithuania won this one, making me happy that I jumped up on their bandwagon after being fortunate enough to see them defeat Puerto Rico.

Lithuania for gold!

their.

So wait, you'd start Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant as forwards? Huh?

Remember, it's not about the best players, it's about the right ones. I think USA Basketball should've given Miracle a quick view.

Well, they just went to a commercial halfway in between a swimming event. I can't say I overly blame them as it is an Aussie squash anyway, but that seems like a little rude. At least this event has a Greek guy named Spyridon in it, which has to be in the running for one of the cooler names in the Olympics.

If they had, they'd have gotten two of the best quotes to sum up this US Basketball team.

Craig: You're missing the best players.

Brooks: I'm not looking for the best players, Craig, I'm lookin' for the right ones.

Brooks: When you pull on that jersey, the name on the front is a hell of a lot more important than the one on the back.
