Anyone NOT switch over to DVD yet?

With stores clearing tapes out and the prices of DVDs less than they were years ago. Is anyone still strickly VHS? And if so why?

 

I thought I would slowly switch from VHS to DVD...but I did it way quicker than I thought I would and have almost no VHS movies left.

I still have a large VHS collection, and if I get the choice between DVD or VHS, I'll probably take VHS as I have several VCR's and several TV's in my house, but only one DVD player. I buy DVD's for certain stuff or if it appeals to me (season sets, mostly).

since I'm strongly opposed to paying for things, I prefer VHS because the're so easily dupable.

Just compare the quality of most of the DVDs and you will switch pretty fast.

When it comes to buying videos, it's DVD or nothing. I still need to buy a DVD Recorder to convert all my VHS tapes to DVD though.

Only VHS I'll buy are wrestling comps/tapes that aren't on DVD, or movies that haven't made it to DVD yet (and usually aren't exactly on the top of someone's list to transfer anytime soon). Still, I haven't bought a VHS tape in Lord knows how long, probably at least 8 months.

I have a DVD recorder, but I still tape stuff on VHS all the time (like the Olympics the other night), mostly because recording to DVD isn't really practical. Plus, I just prefer the way a VHS tape plays back, kind of like the way some people prefer the sound of records to CDs.

I know my Best Buy has completly cleared out VHS movies, but the Target I work at still gets new releases, and they're just as much as the DVD versions now

Some movies haven't found their way to DVD or they are on a really crappy one. Case in point, MAJOR LEAGUE.

 

THAT is a crappy DVD.

 

Some movies I'll buy on VHS cause they are priced lower and I don't need some stupid documentary I'm not going to watch. If I really want a film, I get the DVD. If it's just a "meh, whatever" then I'll buy the VHS.

I really hate those kung fu movies which seem to be vcd transfers or from poorly kept film. You know the ones that feature 3 movies on one dvd and it cost $5-$10. One movie I have is too dark and some others have alot of scratches and lines on them....oh and lets not forget the mono sound.

 

Note to self: Never buy a Bruce Lee movie that is not distributed by Fox, Time Warner, or a big name studio.

To record and archive television, I think VHS is still the best. Nothing beats the control of rewinding and fast forwarding in analog.

I'm a fan of DVDs, but I'm no aficionado like some people are about it. I'll still tape things off TV with video cassettes, and still shoot home videos onto VHS, not even 8mm tape. I've got an old camcorder that dates way back, almost as old as my dearly departed TV.

Well my mom bought one of those tv/dvds for only 100$ so they sure as hell aren't expensive anymore. And it wasn't like one of those little small ones you would put in the kitchen or anything..it's actually big..

 

But I still have my trusty VCR. I'm one of those that tape every RAW/SD...for one of those days a storm takes the cable out or if I'm bored..or if sometimes I just feel like watching. So it's mainly used for wrestling. I have tapes dating back to..well the first match on my first tape is The Rock & Earl Hebner vs. Triple H, Xpac, and Road Dogg..so that tells you how far back.

 

This is why I make sure I keep a vcr...if the one I have ever messes up, it's off to buy a new one the next day. I do have the only one in the house though, and that stays in my room.

Ive been doing that since december of 2001 aftyer jericho won the undisputed title, i missed out a few weeks during the sumer vacation but continued on, but missed about a month last may when my tv/vcr combo bit the dust (well the vcr part at least, i still use the tv part cuz im cheap) i used the family vcr from june till this april when I bought a 4 head hi fi stereo vcr for only 49.95 at walmart (remember the days when they cost you a cvouple hundred bucks?)

 

I also have been taping TNA impact, and I have every confidential ever on tape , save for one (the one where rey mysterio showed his house)

 

so i have big stacks of taeps in my room (too cheap to buy a stand so they are literally piled vertically against the wall of my small bedroom-probably not safe way to store them)

 

i have many various wrestling home videos as well including the wrestlemania legacy box set

 

as for dvds, I m the only one in the house who owns dvds and theyre all wwe ones (flairs, hogans, summerslam 02 and unforgiven 02) despite the fact that there is a dvd player in our living room (we mostly rent stuff)

 

but they and to be honest I am not into buying movies much, since I have premium channels

 

 

so basically im interested in buying wrestling dvds and maybe some tv serie season sets

 

as for the last vhs tape i bought in a store? Ecw Heatwave 98 and anarchy rulz 99 f

 

actually i just went to a closing sale at my local indy video store and bought used copies of survivor series 92 and royal rumble 93 which are in decent condition

 

 

 

only thing that i dont like about vhs is im always afraid one will get stuck in my vcrand get ruined

oops i probably should have mentioned that I dont have a dvd palyer in my room so i use my ps2 , it does fine enough

 

 

and the one thing i hate about dvds is PIXELS filling up the screens (this happens alot on wwe discs as they seemed to be extra compressed to put more content on a disc) and some movies look bad on analog tvs as opposed to hd widescreen and the like

I'm pretty much fully converted to digital. I still own VCRs, but as soon as home DVD recorder prices dip below $200 those will be gone. I have a home DVD recorder that was $350, but still too much to replace all of the VCRs.

 

I once had 5 VCR's, but now I'm down to two DVD/VCR units.

The only VHS that I personally own are a bunch of wrestling tapes. Stuff that I recorded as it aired on TV and comp tapes that I bought. If I could put all of that on a series of DVDs, I'd love to. Is there a cheap way to do that?

Affordable? yes

 

The cheapest way would be with a computer DVD recorder. I believe there's a way to hook a VCR up to it, but you'd have to look into that yourself.

I switched to DVD simply because almost all DVD stuff is widescreen (unless you go to fucking Blockbuster).

I'll use VHS when I want to tape something I won't be able to watch, since I can always record over it when I need to tape something again later, but other than that I only use DVD
