The Kenzo storyline

Recommended Posts

Guest Anglesault

After watching my Tivo'ed SD! again and seeing the attack on Rob for no apparent reason and Kenzo's total fury and Hiroku's smug ass look, could the angle they are running be that Hiroku, Kenzo's translator, is being a total manipulative bitch and relaying things to Kenzo that never happened, and/or even mistranslating things to Kenzo on purpose?

Like, perhaps RVD did something to piss Hiroku off (for my purposes, a) Hiroku is Kenzo's wife even in storyline terms and b) Hiroku is a tramp) like possibly refusing his advances. So a scorned Hiroku comes crying to Kenzo saying that RVD hit on her, pissing him off.

Or maybe even they pass in the hall, Hiroku says something slutty in English to Rob, Rob responds with one of his "Whatever, Dude" type answers and Hiroku tells Kenzo that he really said (whatever) to piss him off.

The logical culmination would be Kenzo figuring it out, kicking Hiroku to the curb and turning face. But could Kenzo work as a face? Would he have to play the goofy Tajiri role?

would be more complex if she was the one trying to make advances and he refused her...

maybe he tried sniffing her makeup and she didn't find that very polite.

That was my idea. It should read "Possibly refusing HER advances" She's looking for some from RVD and he turned her down.

the problem with this is, unless they truly portray her really a skilled manipulater meaning she takes all his Japanese Male supremacy crap and use it in her manipulations, it wouldn't work...

because always seems pissed and she always seem to be the meek little thing that translates everything nasty said to him as if Kenzo is about to slap her.

Maybe RVD just passed the bowl to Eddy when Hiroku packed it and obviously should've gotten greens.

Anglesault, as much as it's "cool" to disagree with a lot of your opinions on here, over the past week you've actually brought up a few good points/ideas/opinions...

This, however, would require too much long-term planning by the WWE and would probably actually make somne money.

Thus, expect the following the next week on Smackdown!

Josh Matthews: "Rob, why do you think Kenzo Suzuki did what he did?"

RVD: "Dude, when it comes to being Mr. Thurs...

:::Kenzo attacks him backstage:::

Kenzo: "I will conquer the U.S.! RVD represent U.S.!"

And then Michael Cole will go on and on how Rob Van Dam has been the "flag bearer" of the U.S. or something of the sort, leading up to a blowoff match where Van Dam goes up for 5 Star, Cole says "Ladies and gentlemen this is OVER!", Van Dam misses, and Kenzo wins or something.

This would actually be a decent storyline, except for the fact that as long as the wrestler in question is not a blonde, blue-eyed specimen (SEE: Holly, Bob and Gunn, Billy), no one is going to accept someone who doesn't bring the workrate as a believable face.

Tajiri had the ability to get himself over regardless of the gimmick. I don't think Kenzo has that luxury.

I went over a menal list of poor workers who are over as faces (or were when they were faces) and at least the blonde hair (and ususally the eyes) part is pretty true. Creepy.

....Why is it EVERYTIME I'm in the WWE Folder, I read something funny while I'm drinking!? (rubs down screen of water)

It could have worked for Yokozuna, i mean he was over enough as a face.

RVD doesn't sniff he only smokes trees, but this would make a great Eddie or X-Pac storyline.

The storyline would make sense except that Hiroko would be talking to Kenzo and we wouldnt have a clue what they're talking about, leaving just their expressions to tell the story.

Well they could always use Funaki as the one who initially figures it out and then have him tell everyone.

How about this?

Kenzo is moved to Raw because he sucks and he and Cade can form a team to fight Rhyno and Tajiri while his translator turns into another Stacy/Torrie style diva because I like Asian women with properly-sized breasts.

That is the best of both worlds.

I think they are jsut making way to big of a deal of Kenzo, in my eyes he isnt all that great, they should start looking at storylines to the people who have been workin their ass off for a long time, and give them a storyline

I don't know if everyone is already aware of this, but on WWE.com, they have an exclusive backstage interview between Kenzo & Rene Dupree after the attack on RVD. Basically, they each speak their languages to each other, and finally, Hiroko proposes they team together... and they walk off together.

It would be stupid to just forget about the RVD beatdown, so it's probably going to turn into a 1-on-2 feud, and then RVD will probably recruit someone like Rey Mysterio to team with.

I think they shouldn't do any kind of real story with the two till they can draw a reaction from the crowd...oh yeah, and if he could wrestle too, that would be great.

Dupree CAN get a reaction. It's a face reaction, admittedly, and it only takes place when he does the French Dance... but did you see Toronto during the Heat match? I swear he got the biggest pop of the night!

In-ring, Dupree and Kenzo both suck. But Dupree is simply limited, whereas Kenzo's appalling timing on his 'martial arts' style drags him down lower than 2003 Jeff Hardy.

Heh, I don't know about you, but I have no desire at all to see happy go-lucky babyface Kenzo fn Suzuki. I mean seriously, good storyline and all, do you think that'd draw any money or interest? Besides we know it wouldn't be done properly anyway, even though it would damn funny to me. Pass on this idea.

According to a recent Observer, there is talk of spinning the "I love America" routine Kenzo had been doing into making him a babyface. My guess is that this team with Dupree will lead to one turning on the other and the Kenzo face turn being the culmination of it.

Thats not saying much for Summerslam, considering most of the heels got good reactions (Angle, HHH, Orton, Batista got the best ones) that night.

Suzuki being manipulated would require too much effort for what should be a simple RVD squash match. I mean it's fucking Kenzo Suzuki...guy uses a CLAW HOLD for a finisher in 2004.

What's with the WWE not checking into guys at all before they put them on tv? This keeps happening. And they'll probably do with Kenzo what they did with Nathan Jones and Heiden...whatever the name. See that he's not getting over, take him off tv, give him a lame build up AGAIN, and let him back on tv no better and no more over than he was anyway.

That would actually be pretty cool. Have Funaki overhear some things and become SMACKDOWN NUMBAH 1 INVESTIGATAH~! You'd see him following the pair around, see her trying to come on to RVD, then go crying to Kenzo when she gets shot down, etc. Then one day Funaki gets Kenzo to follow Hiroku and hears Funaki's translation (don't ask me how Funaki manages this, it's the WWE folks), believes him, and becomes angry babyface and Hiroku becomes manipulative bitch heel. Of course, then a) Hiroku would need someone to back her up or b) Kenzo plays her somehow before kicking her to the curb.

Of course, it'll never happen since it requires midcarders on Smackdown to get substantial camera time and some long term investment. Still, though, fun to think about.
