The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2004 My face still hurts from laughing so much. I picked this up off recommendation of a friend, who didn't really go into detail, but said it was great. Let me tell you, that was honestly the funniest 2 hours of my life, I swear to God. I laughed so hard it was better than a workout. Every single thing Robin Williams said was pure gold. He did more jokes in 5 minutes than Seinfeld does in an hour. The first laugh-till-you-cry bit is his joke about execution of retarded people. "Go sit in Santa's lap, Timmy! *pulls electric chair lever* *PFFFFTTTT*" That nearly killed me. Eventually, he moves into political commentary, which is a lot slower (he was going at a RAPID pace previously), but still hilarious. Then, he gets into religion. I have NEVER laughed this hard. "Jesus was an only child, and thank God, because who would want to be Jerry, the brother of Christ?" There's so much more I've forgotten at least 95% of it. Eventually, he moves onto how golf was invented by Scots, which is a must-see for any golf fans. The ending discussion about sex/Viagra slows it down a bit, but it's a very good climax (no pun intended) to the show. He ends it perfectly. I can't really say it's my favourite "film" ever (too all over the place to be a movie), but it's my favourite thing ever put on DVD. Please, I beg of you, watch this. It will redefine your perspective of "funny". So who else has seen it/enjoyed it?
Scroby 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2004 I also own the DVD and your right it is bust a gut funny. I also recommand this show of Robin Williams to anyone.
ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2004 I need to see this sometime. The only Robin Williams special I know of is the Robin Williams HBO special I've seen on Comedy Central in the past. Where my favorite quote was uttered: "You're only given a little spark of madness. And if you lose that, you're nothing."
Scroby 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2004 I also recommnd seeing his interview with James Lipton on Bravo...I think its Inside the actors stuido or something. Its great plus Robin just shows you how well he can improv anything.

Guest Staravenger Report post Posted August 27, 2004 Is this the one that airs on HBO now-and-then (it seems very recent)? If it is the one, then I honestly don't think it was too funny. His comedy is too... in multiple characters/voices. I like a good comedian who just talks about random shit like Chris Rock or to an extent George Carlin (who seems to rant on the same subject for 20 minutes). I like Robin Williams in movies, but giving him 90 minutes of stand-up is the cure for insomnia to me.

I remember one part someone shouted "MORK" at him...his reply (since he was doing his psuedo-Shakespeare) "Nay, not Mork! Speak not of that TV or not TV!" Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2004 I saw this on hbo greatly funny!!!!! actually my fav stand up guy is george carlin. I always wind up quoting him. my fav hbo special is back in town from 96 "They want live babies to grow up into dead soldiers" george on pro-life people "How come with us its an abortion, and when its a chicken, its an omelette?" and his idea of roping off part of the country and turning it to a prison farm and airing it on ppv today i was watching an old jeff foxworthy special on comedy central and it was pretty funny heres a quote from it "How come you only lose expensive sunglasses? You buy a new expensive pair and it will be gone like a pizza at a weight watchers convention. I guarantee you, if you were on a cruise, and you bent over the deck to look out and dropped your cheapos in the water, a scubadiver would pop up and say"hey did somebody lose their glasses. got a pair of cheapos here." Positively Kanyon 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2004 My favourite line from the "Live On Broadway" show is where he was talking about Bill Gates and the recent court cases(recent at the time) Robin as Bill: Monopoly is a board game your honour, I'm trying to take over the fucking world! Loses its pizazz in text form, but if you've seen it, it's absolutely hilarious!
The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2004 Nah, my favorite "Live on Broadway" quote is one still repeated by me and my friends 2 years after we first saw it, and is about those ab muscle belts that they used to sell on TV. "All you have to do is strap it to your head, turn it on full blast, and repeat over and over... I. WILL. NOT. BUY. STUPID. SHIT. FOR. NO. REASON!"
