I thought they looked like the alternate Bruins jersey, the one with the depressed bear.

 

Good game so far. Crazy seeing Lemieux go after Konowalchuk. It was a lot like the Bertuzzi thing, with Konowalchuk skating away with his back turned. Nice to see Lemieux turn him around before confronting him.

They were honoring the Winnipeg Falcons. Wasn't paying attention too much but I guess they won some old school international tournement or something of that nature.

 

Hope they bring back the regular jerseys, Canada has probably the best looking international jerseys.

I liked the Czech's whites the other day, even if they were Rangersesque.

 

I can understand honoring the team, as long as this was a one-night thing. With an abundance of the players unable to wear their regular numbers, I was very confused.

 

Plus, I had the sound off since I was watching Angels v. Red Sox at the same time on my other TV.

Those yellow jerseys were worn when they won the gold medal olympics in the 20's I think.

 

Great game by Esche, he's the one reason why the score is much nicer than it is.

Sweden will crash and burn there is my opinion as a swede. I would prefer if Sweden had gone with Henrik Lundqvist a young goalie who plays in the swedish elitserie instead of Salo. There is talk about Tellqvist playing against the Cechz and Finland but it doesn´t mather we are doomed as it is.

 

I hope that we somehow can make it second or even first in the group so we play our quarterfinal at home, when/if we make it across the atlantic we are fucked our coach tactics doesn´t work on the small hockey rink, it almost doesn´t even work here.

Sorry I'm so late with my responses ... it sucks having to watch the games on tape instead of watching them live.

 

- I dug the Canadian uniforms. It took some getting used to, but once I did I really liked them. If I had any faith that Thornton was going to be a Bruin for more than a year or so, I'd probably invest in a Thornton sweater. I also really liked them using "Canada" in lieu of their actual names. Although, like Max said, with so many players wearing random numbers it was kind of confusing to follow at times. (I also really liked that the Canadians that normally wear #19 chose not to in respect to Stevie Y. It's the small things like that that make me love hockey ... I really can't see a baseball player or basketball player doing the equivalent.)

 

- Even though the Canadians have the deepest team, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't win it all. Both Esche & Vokoun played very well, and once the elimination round starts all it'll take is a goalie standing on his head for 60 minutes and the better team could be sent packing.

 

- Jeremy Roenick has got to go ... he wasn't as bad as Smith & the other guy that covered the Czech/Finland game, but he was painfully bad. I understand why they want him there, but I'd rather they just gone with Thorne & Clement with JR sitting in for a period rather than as a permanent 3rd member in the booth.

As far as the goalies go, I agree with you to a point. Canada has Brodeur, Luongo, and Theodore. All have proven that they can be lights out when they need to. Look at Luongo's numbers in the regular season and keep in mind that his defense SUCKS. Imagine him with a few all-stars in front of him defensively? Good lord, there'd be no stopping him. Goaltending will be the downfall of the US. Granted, Esche wasn't horrible last night, but against some of the goaltenders that he'll be stacked up against...I don't know...

 

I guess it's a good thing that I watched it with the sound low, as I had Angels @ Red Sox on my big TV and US v. Canada on my smaller tv. As much as I like Thorne and Clement, they can't really do well with anyone else in the booth, which is something that ESPN shouldn't be doing anyway. Thorne and Clement are easily their best announcers, and saddling them with Roenick is just a bad idea. Have Roenick be the roaming reporter, have him pick fights with some of the ignorant fans in Montreal, anything.

Why can´t Swedish team just continue to play well why do they have to make every game so freaking tight. But I´m pleased that we now have our quarterfinal at home instead of going across the atlantic.

Isn't Peter Forsberg playing for MoDo next year, lockout or not? If so, it'll be a shame, as he's clearly one of the best players of the late 90s early 00s.

 

It also leaves Joe Sakic and Adam Foote as the last remaining Quebec Nordiques in Colorado, just like Mike Modano is now the only Minnesota North Star in Dallas.

There is talk that Forsberg is going back to MoDo, a team that is going to be coached by his father next season. Nothing is final I believe but most newspapers is reporting that he has almost decided for MoDo. I can understand if he wants to be back to "elitserien" (premier division in sweden) he hasn´t won that but he has won everything else and his body has taken alot of stuff.

I know Canada is palying well, but honestly, it dosn't matter untill the Quarters.

 

 

But I would like to see Slovakia agian, we match up better with them than almost any other team.

Slow D? The slowest one is probably Foote, and he's not slow by any stretch of the imagination. This is probably the most active and fastest Canadian defensein quite some time.

Slovakia probably has the fastest offence in the tournament, and is able to break away with some good chances. When they got the puck, past the centre line, the Slovakia team exploded towards the Canadian net. Mind you Slovakia couldn't buy a pass through the neutral zone
