Australian Pride 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2004 The Rock was the one who absolutely took it and ran with being the cool heel who got cheered. Until WM18, I had never seen a better reaction to a heel than the face pops Rock was getting. It was one of the main reasons why his Breakdown 98 match with Foley & Shamrock is among my favourites. The crowd just loved him, and shit all over Shamrock.
Shanghai Kid 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2004 The Rock was the one who absolutely took it and ran with being the cool heel who got cheered. Until WM18, I had never seen a better reaction to a heel than the face pops Rock was getting. It was one of the main reasons why his Breakdown 98 match with Foley & Shamrock is among my favourites. The crowd just loved him, and shit all over Shamrock. And he hadn't even turned face or changed his personality at all. He was saying the exact same things he was saying months before when he was the most hated heel in the company, and now he was getting cheered for it. He also never really quit the Nation of Domination. One of my favorite moments of all time is actually the night after the October PPV in 99 on Raw. Rock comes out to challenge HHH at Survivor Series, and then Austin comes out and says he should be the #1 contender. Their's a 2 minute period there that just goes down in history. That's the only time where I can think of the 2 biggest faces at their peak standing on opposite ends of the ring, and the crowd trying to decide who to cheer. I was expecting a huge Austin chant, but the Rock took of his sunglasses and the fans were equally chanting for him. That was a great moment. By the time face Austin faced face Rock, it was too late. It was 2001, the Rock was a stale face, and they had the big match in Texas where Jesus himself couldn't get the fans to cheer against Austin.

Hmmmm, not sure if I'd call that the ONLY time...how bout the 1990 Royal Rumble when Hogan and Warrior were the only two guys in the ring for that 2 minute stretch, the crowd was going nuts for both guys...sure it wasn't Hogan's peak, but it was Warrior's and Hogan was Hogan so... Yeah Hogan and Warrior actually did do that also.

The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2004 Fans cheered for brock lesnar at summerslam 2002 not where I was (sports bar). Only me and one other person really cheered for Brock, and it was celebrating in front of a few dozen others when he won.
Austin3164life 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2004 If you really want to go old-school, when Harley Race won the NWA Title from Terry Funk in Toronto, Funk was supposed to be the face, yet when Race had him tap to the Figure Four and won, the crowd went apeshit for Race (who was considered a heel for the most part, except when wrestling in the Central Territory). The crowd was going nuts, and then Vince comes out and books the triple threat match at Survivor Series that sadly never happened. One of the last few times (though there have been others) that I actually marked out while watching the WWF/E. Sad, but true!
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2004 RVD got cheered all the time during his initial alliance run, and besides philly is ecw country I agree with all you have said, but I will mention a personal experience. I was at Unforgiven 02 and the crowd was way behind Eddy Guerrero over Edge, given it was LA but it was pretty cool as we started a big Eddy chant and Edge sucks as well I was at the Kane/Lita wedding and Kane was getting big face pops throughout the night, while Lita's reaction was lukewarm at best (again no surprise) Brock at Summerslam 02 is a great example and you are right about wm 11, I was watching it recently again. Shawn got a pretty big pop for his entrance and once he nailed that chin music the crowd was behind him, even counting diesel down as there was no ref and booing when he didnt come in sooner and then again when diesel kicked out. Nash started to "diesel up" and the crowd booed him loudly.
